Feature:
Sure, on the surface it's just a tube amp. Underneath the hood is a precision-crafted tone machine. Where other brands skimp on component-costs and compromise on construction details, THD does none of that. The chassis is sturdy but not over-sized like most amps in this class. All wiring is carefully hand-soldered and quality-checked. Mil-Spec or BETTER throughout. The tone controls respond they way "old-School" real amps should, but with less noise. The tube bias feature is an absolute necessity and makes tube replacement and "tuning" a breeze. I wish they made these forty years ago.
Quality:
I have looked inside. It reminds me of my original hand-wired HiWatts, only even nicer. Premium electronic components throughout. If you remember basic physics, you know what a "Faraday cage" is. (look it up if you were asleep during that class.)
A quick look at this amp shows you it is encased in a steel cage. That helps it fight off RFI and EMI. nice. simple. effective. The perforated steel cage helps cooling too. Elegant solution!
Value:
I suppose if had to take away one mark, this would be the only place to do it. Realistically, it is worth every penny in today's inflated dollars. I just WISH I could buy two more for another stereo rig at less cost, but then these wouldn't be the quality they are. They are expensive but worth every cent. Think about this: EXCEPT for tubes, these amps will outlast YOU. This is an investment in a real musical instrument, not a debit for a plastic toy.
Desirability:
Sexy Mutha... Real, tone-to-the-bone, get down right now sexy BeeHatch.
Aural gratification at the flick of a switch. Makes you sound better than you are and helps you improve your playing at the same time. You get bragging rights at the bar. Show up with one or two of these? ...Everyone will know you mean business.
Sound:
Supreme Real Tube Tone... ultra versatile, super easy-to-use. Plays nicely with effects. Controls really work!
Ease of Use:
It is a tube amp... doesn't get any simpler. There are amps with fewer knobs, but they compromise control. This amp, a guitar and your hands are the core. The knobs on this job actually DO things. You get instantaneous response and aural feedback so adjusting this amp is cake.
If you want effects, plug 'em in. This amp will provide all the real, natural distortion any guitarist could want. Metal Heads may want to add more with pedals if they are deaf. This amp is for real musicians. "Pod Punks" need not apply.
Support:
My THD amps have taken a beating for years and never even hinted at failure. So I don't really know about service.
This amp doesn't eat tubes like some of those 'boutique' jobs with convoluted circuit paths and stupid distortion. Replacing tubes and biasing is a breeze. Takes about five minutes the first time. Less after that. I have only replaced tubes once in two years. You can easily re-bias as tubes age with this amp.
Support? It is an amplifier. You plug it in and turn it on. Turn the knobs until you love it. It is difficult to get a bad sound out of this thing. It just works.
Overall:
Until human hearing evolves or the laws of physics are repealed, this amp can NEVER be obsolete. Just don't leave it in the rain or spill beer into it. Your rotten kids will inherit it.
