Feature:
With an on board effects unit and two built in samplers, you can save money by not having to buy other equipment. For a DJ, the X-9 provides the perfect amount of features. Stand-alone effects and sampler units would be of a higher quality, but if your needs are like mine, this thing is perfect. Everything else is the "standard" DJ mixer components with an added feature here and there.
Quality:
This is the one thing that remains to be seen in comparison with the Pioneer DJM 600. The two companies are really different. Pioneer specializes in pretty much everything audio and video. As a result, they have a lot of experience in predicting what your average idiot (such as myself) will try to do with the unit. Tascam, on the other hand, specializes in professional audio, and manufactures with sound fidelity and quality in mind. I believe they assume you will be more friendly to your mixer. You will...right?
Value:
I give it a 9. The sticker price on this thing is a little bit insane. I saved for a long time and ate canned food for a couple of months to buy this. I must say I am not disappointed at all! If you consider the level of sophistication on board and the minimization of future equipment upgrades or add ons, you would likely give this a 9 also. There are just so many options for personalizing your mix and being creative with things. If you are about to trainwreck your mix, there are enough EQ options and effects to get you out of there quickly. This makes it good for all DJ's if you are smart enough to read all of the instructions and not just those good enough to never have such problems.
Desirability:
It is the current top-of-the-line model with all features. You know you need it...:)
Sound:
Tascam has a huge amount of experience in studio grade mixing boards and electronic instruments. This product continues that fine tradition. All I can say is with two digital coax (SPDIF) inputs and one digital coax output it will not be the weak link in your chain. My setup has two numark ttx-1's with digital out hooked into the X-9. Far better than the RCA jack phono plugs! 10 as far as the current audiophile standard being available to the bedroom DJ goes.
Support:
No problems with the unit so far, but from past dealings with Tascam representatives they have excellent support. I have heard that this is pretty much luck of the draw (ie. what friendly/unfriendly person happens to get your call) anywhere you go. Worth noting, however, is that the product does come with a good warranty much like the other high end mixers. Try and find a copy off of their site if you can.
Overall:
All things considered, unbeatable. Close feature comparison with the DJM-600, but this one sounds better and has more features. This is the one for me.
