Overall:
I am very impressed with the Tama Superstar series.Like all Tama products,they offer genuinely innovative and user-friendly features rather than gimmicks like some of their competitors.(including Mapex)Features include:star-cast mounting system that supports the tom from the hoop,rather than the shell..the design includes die-cast hoops which are more rigid than triple-flange hoops and better suited to the rigid support of the star-cast system..the superstar also includes one-piece high-tension lugs with two screws on each end for superior strength and low shell stress because tension pulls on both ends of the lug simultaneously..bass drum hoop claws have a recessed design with the tension rod head out of the way..the shells are well crafted with 45 degree bearing edges and staggered seam construction(this plus die-cast hoops means easier,more accurate and more stable tuning)..the new series of retro satin finishes is also awesome..superstar`s hi-hat and bass drum pedal are well engineered,responsive and quiet..yes,this kit is made in Taiwan,not Japan,but its quality is very good indeed.
