Love Tama's quality and sound paired with zZounds incredibly fast shipping...you can't go wrong here. I will be adding to this set for a long time to come, I'd imagine. This set is definitely worth the money. I love that you get the 3 rack and 2 floor toms for more flexibility with your playing so it's a great set for whatever you play and with a few adjustments to the heads, can really be used for any style of playing. I just love the thing, not to mention the Transparent Black Burst color is, in my opinion, just about the best color I've seen in a while...I love it!!!

I record often and play drums in two different bands. A second kit was inevitable. I own an original Star Classic Maple from '94 and decided to go with another, lower line, kit as a secondary. After researching different makes and models, with different types of wood, I stayed with Tama. I love the sound of maple kits, so the obvious choice was the Superstar Classic. The tonal quality is still top notch and the price is right. They also look fantastic. That said, being a lower priced kit, they did cut back on certain things. Not a big fan of the new Star Mount system. The old Starcast mounted the rim of the drum, allowing them to stay in tune longer and making it easy to change out drum heads. The current system mounts on the lug, like the old 'Rims' mounts. This causes them to go out of tune during the course of a studio session or live gig. Not badly, but I like not having to worry about it happening. The rims, themselves, are cheaper. Lighter, thinner and the lug screws are machined in a way that not all drum keys will fit properly. I had one of my nice torquing keys stick to the soft metal and mess up the tuning when trying to pry it off. The hardware is solid. Tama knows drummers need good, tough hardware that will hold up to years of gigging. It does come with the Iron Cobra 200 Series hi-hat and kick peddle. I don't use the kick since I have a nice Yamaha double peddle. So, other than the minor complaint of Star Mount and lug screws, the kit looks and performs perfectly.

Even though this is only my second drum set, I love the added options I have with this set. The color I love, the sound I love, although I have to admit it took a while to figure that one out going from a basic set to this one. Still, I love everything about this. I doubt I'll need another set in the future. I'd love to add to this one just as it is...

"Great kit for the price. But it has its foibles"

So firstly, the pros:the kit is of excellent build quality and construction. Finish is flawless. Toms tuned so easily with factory reso and g2 coated batter. Put an emad2 on the kick and no muffling or port on reso and tuned it finger tight. Shakes my house it sounds so good. Solid thump for days. Cons:Snare has no snare beds cut into it. Could be a factory oversight or just the way it is. I usually cut them deeper on my wood snares anyhow. So it’s really a moot thing I guess. Other than that, no complaints at all. A great kit for a great price. If you’re looking for a pretty moderate level kit for a great price, pull they trigger and buy this. You won’t be sorry.

"Still Can't Believe The Price!"

I have had a Tama Inperialstar, that I purchased from zZounds incidentally as well, for the past 8 years. I always drooled at the pictures of larger sets and more professional sets. When I found this set I was amazed by the price. The drums sound beautiful, the bass drum punches hard, the snare pops, the toms sound amazing. I personally got the tangerine burst, and I was leery because I couldn't find any real non stock photos online and the only video on YouTube makes them look dull. I promise they are vibrant and rich when you see them in person, the stock photos look pretty much exactly how they look in person. The star mount system seems nice, I have never used anything other than side mounts, but they do allow me to bring the rack Tom's forward way more, so that's a plus.
