Feature:
I really like the tele and strat volume set up. One master volume is elegant and simple, the way I prefer. The volume and tone controls are classic Gibson style as is the selector switch. This really gives the user infinite combinations, however I'm not sure that I would prefer it over the standard tele system. I know it may seem that I am nitpicking, but thats about all one can do in reviewing this item.
Quality:
I rate the quality of this Guitar in respect to the price. Nothing fancy about the finishing, but no defects of any kind present on mine. If feels very solid and I suspect it can take some pretty rough giging. The pots and switches feel a little light weight, but they are very quiet and effective. Such Items are rather simple to replace if needed.
Value:
Incredible value. Until this guitar, I have never found a new guitar that I would consider to be worth retail.
Desirability:
It is a new look for a classic guitar, a very effective makeover.Every guitar player has a need for this guitar, most of you just don't know it. Its definitely a keeper.
Sound:
My experience with p90's was with a early 60's Gibson SG special. I have regretted not keeping it and trading it in the late 60's. The last 10 yrs I settled for a '64 SG jr. I have replaced the bridge pickup of my mid 70's SG with a p90 in a humbucker housing. Everything I was trying to get was accomplished with this entry level Squier. I can make it sound like my original jr. by simply rolling off the brightness with the tone control. If you prefer a guitar which can achieve the best of a Gibson and Fender, its all packaged very nicely right here. The pickups are Seymour Duncan designed according to the labeling on the pickup cover. As for their manufacturer???
Ease of Use:
I have a Tele ProTone that has a killer action to the neck. Unfortunately the neck on the Squier Custom is a little beefier(hinting at the type of action on the Clapton Strat). Maybe that is the reason that the sustain is very good. The oil finish on the neck makes the action slicker than the ones with a gloss finish and I like that very much. The less than ten rating is primary caused by the neck being a litte beefy.
Support:
Unless you take this guitar swimming with you or gig in hurricanes, I can't see anyone ever needing service, maybe repairs from abuse. I have only delt with Rickenbacker involving repairs, no other Guitar Manufacturer. A word of praise to the staff at zzsounds. My guitar was delivered across the country so fast that I felt like I bought at local establishment. I don't know how they do it. Maybe I ordered it on a slow day.
Overall:
I purchased this guitar without ever having one in my hands, I just don't buy items like that. I don't know if I will do that again, but I am certainly pleased that I did this time.
