Needed a 5 string and had always liked the look of the Spector basses. This one came in stellar conditions. I did replace the strings almost immediately but other than that, which is a personal preference it was spot on out of the box. The pickups offer a truly wide variety of tones and work well with the low B string. Amazingly balanced for such a small body. All the fret ends are well polished and I noted no high frets or dead spots on the neck. Giving it a little oil and quick polish on the next I noticed it was very clean. Many import guitars and basses have really dirty fretboards for some reason, it's like they don't clean it after crowning or polishing the frets. There was only minor residue on this one. Speaking of necks I didn't know how I would like the Pau Ferro Fingerboard but it's more dense than other examples I have owned and the color (stain?) is very nice, definitely darker and not as orange as some others.Overall I'm very impressed. My son will probably play this one more than I do but I plan to pickup the 4 string version for me in a couple of months.
