Schecter PT Special Electric Guitar

A P-90 and single-coil pickup combination, along with a solid swamp ash body, gives this PT Special all it needs to be a lean, mean rock 'n' roll machine.

"Schecter - not just for metal"

A sweet, sweet rock n roll machine. Schecter has a reputation for metal only but don't let that discourage you from this one. A great feeling neck, solid build. Easy to achieve perfect intonation. Hardware and wiring are great quality. What really stands out to me is the pickups. Usually my first move with guitars is to swap out the pickups, but both bridge and especially the neck pickups on this bad boy are warm and growly. A great guitar!!

"My most played guitar"

I've gone on a bit of a guitar buying binge over the last couple of years (like many of us I'm sure) and after going through many low and mid priced guitars I've landed on a body type and feel that I love. That body type is, of course, the T-Style. I now own a couple of MIM Fender Teles, a Squier Tele Deluxe and a Paranormal Carbronita, but of all of those guitars the one I pick up the most is the Schecter. Nothing wrong with my other Teles, they all have their place, but the Schecter fits all the places quite nicely to one degree or another. The value of this guitar is beyond compare for any mid priced guitar I've seen over the last couple of years. Fret work, action and set up were near perfect right out of the box. The finish enhances the swamp ash grain rather than hiding it and it helps that I often get compliments on the starburst. The tuners have a great feel and it stays in tune quite nicely. The bridge pick up is just the right amount of hot and twang that I look for in a Tele and when combined with the bridge pickup I can get quite a meaty sound that sometimes eludes my other Teles. This was my first Schecter and it will not be my last. Schecter's rep as a shredder guitar company and that is well deserved but I feel like the PT models are kind of a secret that many guitar players have not yet discovered. For me, I'm really glad I took this chance and tried this very Special guitar.

I received this guitar today and WOW, even after all the great reviews I read on this guitar it still exceeded expectations! I'm no "guitar hero" but this guitar is amazing right out of the box!

This is a really great guitar. Neck is smooth and fast easy bends. I really thought I wouldn’t like it a first but as I played it more I really like this guitar. For the price it is a great Tele alternative. Love the bit of the pickups with a little overdrive into a marshal amp.

"PT Special Purple Burst"

This might seem like a harsh review but there were some definite concerns with this guitar. I apparently bought the last one in this color for a bit (Nobody had it in stock!). The specs are fantastic for a guitar in this price range..it was exactly what I wanted. The reviews on YouTube seemed favorable, so I pulled the trigger. My style of guitar is heavy blues inspired rock ala Eddie VH, Richie Kotzen, Cream era Clapton, etc...The good: The guitar arrived, very well packed. The fretwork is perfect. The ash body is gorgeous and the thin finish means it feels like a hunk of wood, not plastic. It is difficult to see the seam in the two piece ash body...very well matched. I lowered the action a bit and it’s very comfortable. The body contours and comfy, and the body and neck binding are beautiful. The bad: the nut appears to have been cut by someone who didn’t know what they were doing. The 3rd string slides around in the too-wide slot and pings on the two levels of height in the slot. Worst I have ever seen. I ran the 3rd string into the 2nd string string retainer and it fixed the problem. I will add another string retainer to resolve this or replace the nut if the Tech at Schecter makes good on his promise to send me a replacement. zZounds gave me another $50 off for this. Pickups: the bridge pickup is ice pick shrill, like nothing I’ve ever heard. It is very tricky to dial out that shrillness, and when it finally sounds ok, the neck pickup becomes mud. The bridge pickup is garbage. The high E string is barely audible unless the gain is cranked, in which case the single coil hum is awful. It’s not a high gain guitar so that is not acceptable to me. I replaced the bridge pickup with a warmer pickup that is better matched to the neck P-90. Also, the bridge is a compensated 3 saddle vintage style unit that intonates very well, however the strings slide into the screw hole which causes the string to get odd vibrations. I’ve never had this issue with other bridges of this style. The zZounds tech recommended a replacement with some pricy slotted saddles, which I did order. My final complaint is that the purple burst that was shown on the zZzounds site didn’t really look like the purple burst I got. What was shown was a darker purple, but what I got was purple into pink. I got used to it and don’t mind it now, but I was disappointed at first. Complain complain...but yet I wouldn’t send the guitar back. At this price the guitar still punches way above its price point. Good luck finding an ash body Fender tele at this price with this thin finish (the guitar can breathe and it vibrates against my body when I play it) with this quality fretwork and body contours and binding. Not gonna happen. I do believe the nut issue is not normal...nobody else has mentioned it..I just got a bad one.

I love this guitar, it is contoured to fit and easy to play. I'm not a great guitarist, I'm an ASCAP songwriter and just recently started playing electric as I have used acoustic guitars for the last 50 years. I'm excited about the number of different tones this guitar can create. It also stays in tune very well between uses. If something would happen to this guitar I would replace it with the same model quickly!

What an excellent guitar in every way. Superb craftsmanship and the carves in the body make it really comfortable when playing it. The P90 and single coil bridge pickups sounds great singly or together played in series or parallel. That option is chosen via the push/pull pot of the tone .The neck feels great and I haven't had to do anything to it but tune it. The hardware is quality and there isn't a thing to gripe about at all. True to Schecter's way of constructing their guitars, regardless of whether they're built (U.S., Indonesia, or Korea where this is crafted) all I've ever witnessed is high quality instruments. Zzounds is 2 for 2 on providing me excellent Schecter guitars. I own a C6 Deluxe as well. Give Schecter and zZounds a chance to fulfill your gear needs. You won't be sorry with either. 5 stars across the board. I've not needs Schecter's support so I can't speak on their behalf. I had to rate it so I gave them a 5, too. If for nothing else you producing five star guitars.

I was so excited to receive this Tele style Schecter for my bd, but was disappointed from the first moment. One, the shipping was terrible. The guitar arrived in two thin boxes that offered no protection whatsoever, and the guitar itself had no plastic wrapping on it to indicate it was new. The guitar straight out of the box was not great. Intonation was off, and the bridge pickup was literally DEAD. Not working. The P90 on the neck was muddy and sounded like a cheap epiphone. I even took it to Guitar Center for inspection and to set it up, the tech came back and said "I wouldn't waste my time kid. Looks like you got a dud" The guitar just sounds bad. But if a muddy, shorted out sound is right for you, I'd say go for it.
