I owned the TD-8 with a V-custom set. It produced great sounds. I don't know much about electronics, but this is a remarkable thing. I like the fact that there are 64 built-in kits, but some of them are pretty useless. Just how often is the drummer required to shout "SAY YEAH!? Maybe the fun sounds are to attract buyers. I own a TD-10 now with my V-pro set, but the standard unit (without expansion card) does not do much that the TD-8 can't. The "8" has dual-function volume sliders so it has more control over the kit, such as individual control over toms and cymbals rather than just calling the whole group "other". I would like to see more volume control sliders on both units.
Most drummers will never reach a skill level in their musicianship that will out-perform this module. It is another impressive product that justifies a hefty price. It is a ROLAND.

I've been playing drums for 21 years which included professional touring, studio work as well as playing small venues (churches, high school gyms, and so on). I have found the Roland TD-8 (along with my V-Custom set) to be a tremendous value and flexible to handle all environments. Roland offers the best in sounds, versatility, and quality- no question. The TD-8 is easy to learn, easy to use. It's not expandable, but a great majority of people won't even use all of it's programming. I am called on to play rock, metal, jazz, funk, and gospel. The TD-8 handles all of the sounds I need. Even though I play various styles, a majority of the time I use just a handful of setups that I modified to my taste.

Too bad the TD-8 does not have System Expansion Board available, but for the price the TD-8 is as good as the TD-10.

New Roland drum products should have a better effects feature

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
I've had the TD8 for over a year and have tried every variation on the drum and cymbal sounds. I am resonably satisfied with the hat, snare and tom sounds but a little disappointed with the cymbal sounds. I don't mean to down the product, obviously there are plenty satisfied customers. It's just that for the music I play (i.e. Big Band, Latin, Ballroom, etc) I've found the rides and crashes to be either too harsh or too strange. Problem is, and based on comments from various people in-the-know, for now there isn't any thing out there that does cymbals better.
I have experienced a reliability problem. On certain kits that I've created, my kick trigger will cut out (not good in the middle of a song). Roland suggests that I reset the unit to factory settings. Rats! I would like to say that the Roland folks are very pleasant to deal with.
Thanks for listening

Feature:
The virtual COSM is nice feature.

Quality:
Nothing more to say than its good.

Desirability:
Don't know,but i have a finger up for the td6.

Sound:
I bought this drumset for the hope to gig with it.Well actually after 2 performings i did go back to my acoustics... Don't get me wrong. The sounds in here are good for practicing or for even a gig at a small place with a massive reverberating room,in wich this case electronics are way better. So for all you drummer who would consider to buy a td8 kit, think twice.I'd better did... because the td6k was allready good enough for me...

Support:
Never needed help,so in this case i rated a 7.

I was hoping for a little improvment over my TD-7 Turbo but this thing blew my mind. Too many sounds to make up my mind and play with.
