I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a truly authentic and beautiful sounding piano board. Although Roland in its specs did not mention specifically which piano it sampled from, I am quite sure that it is a Bosendorfer piano. Truly amazing sound. If you have a ear for an elegant classical piano sound, this is the board to buy. It is responsive to various degrees of touch if you use it on a weighted piano-action keyboard. The result is fantastic, really feels and sounds like the real thing. I tried the piano patch on the Kurzweil PC2X and the sound is undeniably a Steinway. Also tried the Yamaha PL150PF board for the S80 and of course it was sampled from a Yamaha. Again, it is truly amazing these days that we can own a virtual Bosendorfer, Steinway or Yamaha concert grand for a few hundred bucks.

Feature:
No issues..

Quality:
I have it in my studio and ocasionaly use it to jam elswhere. So far no problems.

Value:
Korg boards are a little cheeper but I think you get double the sound options with the roland. Exspecialy the Ultimate Keys board.

Desirability:
Roland makes nice looking equipment. It all looks very cool.

Sound:
This board sounds real nice. I have the Triton PrX88 with the Grand Piano expansion board and although the Korg board also sound very good. I feel the Roland sample is slightly for satisfying for my style of playing.

Support:
I have several Roland products both New and Vintage. No problems as of yet.

Overall:
I am very happy with Roland gear. If it was stolen I would rebuy the same if money allowed it...

I am incredibly picky about piano sounds, having gone to a conservatory with 9' Steinway's in every room, and this is hands down the best piano available if you don't have a professional sampler in your arsenal. Yeah, some have complained about this or that note not being quite right, but unless you're a complete and total geek, you won't notice. There are no samples which don't sound like they belong to the one next to it, which is quite a feat considering the crappy work done by some other major manufacturers (cough, Korg, cough). The only thing which some might find bothersome is that the four-way velocity switching can be a little abrupt at times, yielding a slightly louder sample being played than you might expect. But let's face it; if someone produced a perfect piano sample, it would be much, much larger than the 64MBs that this card employs. It's a little expensive, but if what you want is the absolute best piano available, this is without question the one.

As an owner of an XV-88 and composer of piano solos I was very disappointed in the SRX Concert Grand.

One of the key ocatves for melody lines (C5 to C6 on the XV-88) contains several notes from which the original piano has flaws. It sounds like the damper never full comes off the notes, creating too little of a sustain and a distinct "boinking" sound when compared to the other ocataves.

I've tried programming to fix it with limited success.

I though this would be a solution to all those flawed studio pianos -- but Roland copied the flaws.

Beware of rave reviews -- either these folks aren't using it solo or they've got a bad case of the Emperor's New Clothes.
