Roland have since brought out pathes that utilise the sounds on this board, WITH EFFECTS.

I love it. I think it opens into that wonderful world of YES or RUSH and goes deep into luscious synth sound valleys.

To be enjoyed immensely. HOWEVER it has been said that some of the patches can be easily emultated by the presets on and JV or XP.

I haven't tried this at all. I feel the basses are wonderful and the pads and LFO sweeps ain't so bad either.

The board has 256 JV patches (programmed mainly for old JVs like JV80, 90...) and 256 more exclusive for Roland JD990 module. The JV patches are not very special as they were programmed mainly for old JV's. (This board is actually older than JV1080) But the JD990 patches are great!

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
Feature:
Too many waveforms sound too close to each other. Lots of saws and other waves are sampled from different vintage instruments but they sound so close that there really is no point. Could have have featured more sampled "patches" from vintage synths to capture the filters, LFO's and envelpoes from the real thing. Basically those things help give an instrument its character.

Quality:
N/A (its a circuit board)

Value:
I'm glad I got it at a reduced price.

Desirability:
I feel the Roland Vintage synth board falls way short. I think the techno board offers sevral more useful waveforms that sound more vitage synth than what is offered.

Sound:
Sound is very clean.

Support:
I have requested information on products several times via their website and mail and they have failed to reply.

Overall:
I will supplement this with other boards. But overall I feel this is not a very strong collection. I have other exapnsion cards/boards that I think meet my expactations better.

Pretty decent board. I was kinda hoping to get the Van Halen "Jump" Oberheim sound right out of the box, but no luck. I would have liked to have seen some more classic DX/FM percussive synth sounds as well. I don't know if it's just me, but the D-50 patches don't sound as nice as the originals on the D-50 I once owned.
