I can't leave home without it.
Sound
The sounds are much better than the SP404. I now own both and still plan on keeping them.
Features
The features are outstanding! This is a big upgrade from the SP404. I used to have to record my drums or guitar into ProTools and then move it into the SP404 (which took at least an hour to get it to sound just right). With this I can capture great samples in less than a minute.
Ease of Use
It took me half a day to figure it out, but I already knew how to operate the SP404...
Quality
I don't see this breaking on me. I've had the SP404 for over a year and half - the SP555 looks even more stable.
Value
I wish it was a little less. The price should be $555 to match the model number ;)
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had to contact support on this...yet...possibly never
The Wow Factor
I want another. I'm using this to replace my Boss RC20XL for my guitar/synth. With the SP555 you can edit the loops you record a lot easier than with the RC20XL. Plus the SP555 offers a foot switch connection!

"groovebox extraordinaire"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I was looking for a groovebox. 'something to use "stand-alone", away from my computer set-up...something portable. I considered Korg's new electribe2, and although they sound great, I find the factory sounds mostly too generic on most grooveboxes kinda lame and generic..I decided to go with a sampler so that I can use whatever sounds I want. This thing is decently priced, has plenty of power, decent effects, and pulls multi-duty by doubling as a sequencer for my other hardware gear if I want, and a field recorder with a built in mic (for when you don't have any other choice of mic..I try not to use the onboard mic as it sounds like a toy). The interface and menu takes a little learning...But it performs accurately, quietly, and dependably...sample editing is a kinda weird. but once you get the hang, it becomes second nature... This thing is not in production anymore and the support evidently doesn't exist for this unit. It doesn't feel robust by any means. Rather light and plastic-y. I don't have plans to be rough with it though, so hopefully that's never an issue. But, if I was a person who did a lot of field-recording, I'd pass this up and buy the new Zoom field recorder. The sound is pretty good. Ewing and effects are pretty good...definitely useable although the reverb is so starchy and digital/un-natural sounding. But, that can be cool too. I would've liked to have an ADSR envelope for sample tailoring... But, I could do that outside of this unit and just import them into the Roland SP-555 using the software.

whatever I want...it seems weird to wear one kind of hat all the time...

Roland SP-555 Sampler Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Sound is fat and full. You can go real dirty or clean. The FX are great and give you all the sonic control you will need.
Features
The features are great. I love the ease of use and incredible workflow. Chopping up samples in a breeze ! I wish it had a real pitch control and more sequencer functions though.
Ease of Use
It simply doesnt get easier than this.
Quality
seems good... a bit to much plastic in there.
Value
compared to the MPC500 you get alot more bang for your buck from this machine
Manufacturer Support
Roland is always on point with the support.
The Wow Factor
This machine is essential for me.
