"Great Entry Level Tool with Quality Results"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
At first I bought tbis brcause. I read the box cover and said cool. I didn't expect it to give me a $500+ performance like other high ends. One of my other associate who bought a $600 one was impressed. I like the fact that mixing and mastering was sooo cool. The sound quality of the final creation was a close competive one to even the best out there.

"Great for Newbies, Great Sound"

If you play an instrument, you want this.
Sound
Sounds great! The only DAW at this price with a 64-bit version, which is important for memory protection.
Features
The most useful features are extensive use of drag & drop, and a start page where you set top-level parameters. Best UI I've seen. Great for newbies. The worst feature is the fact that it doesn't accommodate plug-ins other than the ones that come with it, and those ain't great. I'd rather have a a track limit than no plug-ins, especially considering the ones that come with it ain't great. Seems to use a lot of system resources (Win 7HP /64).
Ease of Use
This is where the product shines. I got versions of Cubase LE & Ableton Live Light with equipment I've bought this year, and they both suck. They've both got torturous UI's, & Ableton is for working with rap loops and other artificial electronica, but if you play a REAL instrument, IMHO, no way. Cubase is just tortuous to work with, and their support is NG. God help you if you catch a virus & have to reinstall. Let's say it's not made for the real world, and they've got a bad attitude. It can be viewed on their website. Look at what have to say about their licensing procedure. Stud 1 2 puts a license file on your machine that you just drag & drop into the app on reinstall. Nothing easier. Working with virtual instruments is a snap. In the editor window, you get a real keyboard on the left, so you just select the note value you want, from a dropdown, and use your mouse to place notes. What could be easier? After getting Cubase & Ableton for free, I actually bought this.
Quality
IMHO, under the hood is where this product really shines. I'm a retired programmer, and I know how apps SHOULD work and look (think useability). Cbase & A'ton don't look good. Slow load time, no troubleshooting messages on load, so if you've got a problem, have fun finding it. There's that UI again! Better plug-ins and/or the ability to use third-party ones would've made this a 10. The basic program, however is a 10.
Value
Even with its peripheral shortcomings, you can't do better at this price.
Manufacturer Support
Excellent website, support gets back to you quickly.
The Wow Factor
The appeal of this product is high. Anything comparable is much more expensive and harder to use.
