zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
Feature:
Reason is a one-stop-shop solution for music making. once you get a good midi controller, you never have to use anything else. With top-class synths and effects, and a beautiful sequencer, it almost seems too easy to make good music, even for people that aren't any good, like me. Especially with the addition of the Combinator device in version 3.0, even user-created instruments and effects are available for download en mass online.

Quality:
The interface is wonderful, I run it on mac and it has crashed on me twice, both after very long sessions, but they've recently addressed that in a patch (points for support too). Nothing is left out by the GUI.

Value:
For $400, this is a steal. You could buy a crappy hardware synth for that much.

Desirability:
I already own it, but if I didn't... I'd buy it all over again.

Sound:
The possibilities of sound creation with this program are literally infinite. When I got it, it was hard to get past the strictly techno feel, but once you learn your way around the program you can do anything.

Ease of Use:
This product is too easy to use. It can be intimidating at first, if you don't know anything about electronic music synthesis (like I didn't). When you look at comb filters, HP and LP filters, oscillators, waveforms, modulators, and you don't know what to do with them, its difficult. However, it doesn't take a long time to learn.

Support:
I've emailed them once about issues with installing without a disc drive, since my laptop's drive is shot. While they weren't able to help with the issue, they did respond within a day. I'm pleased.

Overall:
I'm thinking about getting Ableton Live also, to combine the power of sound of Reason with the live tweakability of... Live. Other than that, I can't think of anything else I'd ever need.

Feature:
okay the sequencer isn't as powerful as some of the other midi sequencers I've tried. But it's simple to use so I guess it makes recording a little faster. It doesn't do time stretching and stuff like that. But that's cool though; I use ProTools for that. The graphics are good. If you need a sampler, just a click of the mouse, and it's there. You need a mixer/drum machine/distortion unit? Same thing. Chorus, Reverb, Delay, compressor and now it has a few Mastering Tools in the 3.0 version. It makes things easier when I transfer the tracks over to protools. Press the tab key and the virtual rack you just created turns around so that you can see the back of the rack and all the wires. Nice effect but it ain't just for show. Now you can change how your synths are patched together. That's a powerful feature. The only thing it doesn't do is record vocals or live instruments. But that is outside the scope of this program. But you can load any wav or aiff file you want though and can edit it 'til you pass out!

Quality:
This product is made very well. It's easy on CPU power despite all that it does. You better have at least a Gig of RAM though if you gonna be loading a lot of wav samples. It has never crashed or gone unstable on me.

Value:
I think it's a great value for the money. You are getting a studio in a box!!! I've seen studios with walls full of hardware synths. God knows how much they spent on all that. I can get close to the same results for less than what it would cost to get one good hardware synth?? Where do I sign??

Desirability:
The way this program was coded and executed is sheer genius! I have no idea how they got so much out of something so little. I'm just grateful that Reason is here to stay.

Sound:
This thing sounds as good as the refills you purchase for it. Luckily you can tweak and edit every sound until your heart is content. The sounds that come with it are pretty good though. And you can buy professional sounding refills then this thing will blow your mind. If you can hear it in your head and can play it, reason will make it a reality for you. Team this up with ProTools and it's all over.

Support:
When I had to upgrade from 2.5 to 2.0, the customer support helped me tremendously. I've never had to deal with the company other than that and that's the best kind of support available!!!

Overall:
Out of the number of soft synths available for the PC, I believe this is the most versatile and the easiest to use. And for what they are charging for this thing, it's hard to beat it. Sure there are things that sound better. But not by much, and you'll be spending an arm and a leg on it. You want it all in one package, look no further

Feature:
i give it a 10 even though i really don't need the regroove to make good music.the best feature to me would be the combinator/mastering suite.

Quality:
who gives you so much in a product at this price. if you could record vocals in it id dump a couple of my programs.

Value:
once again, for the price and what you have access to after you register, they knock a lot of guys out the box, lietrally.

Desirability:
reason 4 gives me freedom and inspiration to create without thinking about what i need to do to put a track together. i can use wav files as well as the refills and if you got recycle, dr.rex and nn-xt will make it easy and fun.

Sound:
i own pro tools, acid 6, fl studio 8, and reason. the big thing about reason sound is that if you got your studio together(monitors, eq, ect. )you are gonna love all the sounds you can put together.

Ease of Use:
you gotta do the work jerk. it's like any other daw, if you know mixing, sampling rates and modulation the rest is a cakewalk.

Support:
never used

Overall:
as long as they got refills and as long as i can create in minutes, reason 4 has got my vote.

Feature:
I love the new combinator patches, but most of all the strings..

Quality:
Only problem I had was memory, you need to atleast have a gig if you plan to use combinator patches or alot of synth & strings.

Value:
The best money spent ( aside from my MPC )

Desirability:
This is a very tempting product and for good " Reason "

Sound:
I love the sound, and with the Master Suite you can tweak till your hearts content...lol When to paired with; Cubase, Pro Tools, or Adobe audition this product is all you need...

Ease of Use:
Takes a minute to pick it up from scratch, but it's not rocket science.

I've bought a lot of samplers and keyboards over the last 10 or so years, and as we know with lack of knowledge and misinformation you can really waste your money on bulding your "Ultimate Studio" if you are not careful. After thousands of dollars gone out the window and down the drain I started getting smart.

I produce hip-hop and R&B I was just listening to the wrong people about what to get for my studio. See most people think music is music, so when it comes to studios what works for Rock, Heavy Metal , or Alternative in their minds should work for urban music. Wrong.

I'm sorry guitar riffs and accoustic drums only go so far in real Hip-hop music. So after doing my homework and a lot of asking people in my genre what was good way to go I stumbled onto Reason. First time I installed Reason I was amazed by it, I had everything I needed right there on the screen. The only thing I didn't like was the drum machine, but who needs a drum machine when you have a sampler.

Learning the program was a breeze, maybe an hour or 2 after install I was setting up my rack to fit my desired sound and then minutes after that I was producing tracks.

Also, Reason streamlined my studio dramatically. I went from having a keyboard, a sampler, sound modules, effect processors, a mixer and a 16 track digital recorder, to 2 computers (one for Reason and one for Sonar), a midi controller, a mixer. I mean after I sold my old equipment, at way less than retail value, I pretty much paid for my new studio completely.

Reason is by far the best thing that happened to music since the 808. What I like most about Reason is that you can add as many devices to your rack as you need. You want 5 samplers each with their own effects processors, click and you got it. Not only that but the devices automatically makes the cable connections for you, and allows you to change them if you like.

If you are looking for an inexpensive highly efficient studio that produces some of the greatest sounding music in the world, then Reason is the way to go in my opinion.

Sound:
i think the sound is great and very very realistic. the drums sound like drums and not fake.

Ease of Use:

Feature:
Now i hear people say..."no vst no audio". AND you know what im glad it does not. Reason 4 is great for making the instrumentals. Add vocals later. Version 4 has thor and listen if your not happy with the Combinator then you really need to watch a tutorial on how much you can do. Im here to tell you....Reason is a beast in features. Reason is like anything...if you want to really get the most out of it then really learn it......learn how to route differnt effects...learn how to use the combinator....learn how to sample in the NNXT.....learn every instrument. I dont want reason to have audio and vsts, i got cubase and protools freezing on me as it is....let me make the beat in reason ill use protools to add vocals. Features on reason 4 are great but you have to really learn Reason to fully appreciate it.

Quality:
Youll love it trust me

Value:
NO brainer its like this if you are new old or whatever to computer based procduction then reason would definetly be an invest well spent. You get as much music making as your cpu can take....from a software drum machine......3 synths ....samplers and all the effects a man could want. NOW im not saying redrum is better than battery..NO by no means is it. ANd im not saying Reason's samplers have any thing on some other software samplers.....But you get a GREAT QUALITY ALL IN ONE. AND think about this for a second .......when has the average person heard their favorite song and said hey he made that using reason not an mpc. NEVER so get the all in one that does not sacrafice on quality and that would be reason

Desirability:
yea youll want it try it

Sound:
It sounds like great. OK some factory sounds are better than others but hey if your making music you can make it sound great. But because you can do so much to the sound i will say that you can make it sound completly different....no matter what you do.

Ease of Use:
Well let me say this.........Its not like your other DAWs. Its not hard just uniquie. It was hard for me at first but once you get the flow you wonder why you ever thought it was hard.

Support:
NEVER needed it. I probably wont.

Overall:
Look at reason for what it is and thats a all in one virtual studio. Its all in how you use it.

Feature:
The sequencer doesn't give you a lot of power, so if you want to do anything advanced (tempo changes, odd time signatures, or advanced editing), you need to run Reason as a rewire slave to a more powerful sequencer. This works the same as using the Reason modules as plug-ins in your sequencer. The set of included modules is varied, and gives you a lot of options. The rear view of the hardware rack is more than a gimmick, it's how the routing is done between modules, and you can pretty well hook any module into any other for sound design. Included sequencers and loop player mean you can create beats without even hooking up a MIDI keyboard. You can collapse modules you're not actively editing, and they're out of the way and save on CPU power. VST's are not supported, but wanting to use VST's with this is kind of like having a real hot girlfriend and wanting to cheat on her: good luck doing any better.

Quality:
Once in a while, it will crash to the desktop, but not often. I don't ever remember it freezing. It's easy on the CPU for as much as it does.

Value:
It's fairly priced. I don't know that it's a bargain, it's priced about where it belongs. This might become less true now that we've got all these softsamplers out with huge libraries, especially if you're already driving Reason from an external sequencer.

Desirability:
It's super-cool.

Sound:
Good sound quality, you need a good sound card to get the most out of it. The synths are very flexible, with lots of routing options and many waveforms. Unfortunately, they only have one type of filter, which has a kind of cold, digital sound. So there's no getting around that the synths are best-suited for electronica styles. The samplers sound fine. The included sound set is pretty varied, and there are plenty of third-party samples available (some for free) if you need a sound that's not included.

Support:
No real experience with their support, except through their website. Any question I've had has been answered there or in the manual.

Overall:
I haven't yet tapped into everything that can be done with this: it's simple on the surface, but there's a lot of power available. For something to make beats with or an all-in-one creation software, there's nothing better.

Desirability:
i have it and recommend it to anyone who is serious about droppin beats.

Sound:
the sound is great. comes pretty close to sounding like hardware!!

Support:
i haven't had a need to get support yet, but from what i have heard, the support is great...responds in same day.

I can tell it took time to create this program, the quality is just amazing its way better than any other production programs i used in the past.

Value:
Its well worth the price,

Desirability:
This product is very sexy with all the colors. The sequencer is probably the most sexiest sequencer in the world

Sound:
I rated it ten because the sound alone in most of the patches are incredible, it fits my playing style. I'm a producer and the synth and string qualities are jaw dropping not to mention the drum kits.

Ease of Use:
Really easy to use, it deosn't take rocket science all you need is a MIDI controller either keyboard or drum pads and get on the go

Support:
I just bought it so i dont have any problems yet but im pretty sure the support is excellent

Overall:
I will use this product until reason 4 comes out I really love everything about it the patches, the drumkits, synths, and refills its just a great product all around
