"Peavey Tour 700"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I quit playing bass 35 years ago to focus on guitar, and these past years have been good. I recently joined a heavy blues/rock band called The Woodpeckers as their bass player and I had to "rig up." My cabinet is a USA-made 4x10 Ampeg unit, and my amp is a Tour 700. In fact, I bought two of them within two days. One worked great -- sounds great, plenty of headroom, more features than I need -- shakes the house cleanly! The second one would cut out under full load after about 10 minutes, and then come back on again after several seconds. I figured a thermal overload (for which Peavey provides protection) but didn't know why. My local tech examined the amp and discovered that the fan is a two-stage unit, which kicks into overdrive under heavy load. For some reason, the second stage of the cooling fan wasn't working -- a problem that my tech took care of working with Peavey. Now, they both work perfectly and the amp kicks ass. This amp is a helluva bargain for players that want plenty of power and features. I'm not a huge fan of Peavey guitar amps, but their bass amps are great values. Go to The Woodpeckers on Facebook!

As I stated above The Best AMP for your dollar
Sound
I had to purchase anothe bass amp head and was very confused on what to buy so I did some research. I have been playing for several years so I know what I want in sound quality and durability. Peavey has been around for years and once you purchase a Peavey product you will know why. I like the big sound from a stack and this amp produces just that. Whether you use 4 x 10", 8x 10"s which is what I use or 15's this amp pushes it out. The mute for a tuner is great and another nice feature that thgis amp has all connections can be done on the back so there are no wires dangling all over the place. One of the best amps that I have ever purchased and highly reccomend it to all bass players
Manufacturer Support

After having my Gallien-Krueger 1001-RB II amp stolen, and being of limited funds for a replacement, I did a great deal of research before purchasing this head. While this unit sounds really good at lower volume, the G-K's 450watt output (at 8ohms) was way louder than the alleged 700watts (at 4ohms) of this head using the Peavey Headliner 1x15 and Headliner 2x10. I like everything about this amp except the lack of headroom.
Sound
Sound is clean, fits my style of playing quite well, just not loud enough.
Features
10-band eq is nice, sensitive.
Ease of Use
Easy to get great sound with a minimum of fuss.
Quality
Seems well-built, solid.
Value
On paper it looks like a great value, but now that I own it, I don't think so.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to deal with mfg. yet
The Wow Factor
No
