I recently started looking for a solid state amp that I could use as a secondary amp. I gig a small tube combo a few times in month in a cover band, and this amp could easily be my number one. This is my second orange Crush series (the first having been a CR-120 head that I owned a few years ago). With age I have decided to start downsizing my rig, and the 120 with a 4x12 cabinet just started to be too much to haul around. I replaced it with a small tube combo, but I purchased the CR-60 because I wanted a solid state backup. The difference between the CR-120 and the CR-60 are negligible. Both are modeled to sound similar to the Orange Rocker series tube amps, and both are very high quality, good sounding amps. If you are looking for the signature Orange sound, this will give it to you in spades. This is a two channel amp. The dirty channel has pre-amp, bass, mid, treble, and volume controls. The clean channel has bass, treble, and a volume channel. In addition, the amp has a master volume. Coupled with the master volume you can go into slightly broken up territory on the clean channel by cranking the volume. The clean channel can have lots of overhead if you set it up as such (volume down, master up). The dirty channel is very orange sounding. The preamp can go from mild grit to very distorted (however anything past 1 o’clock sounds a bit mushy and compressed). However, (much like the Rocker tube series) front this thing with a good OD, and you will find yourself instantly in sonic heaven. Orange recommends the Fulltone OCD overdrive, and I can see why. You can get very good hard rock tones with the CR-60 pre-amp set to about noon, fronted with a Fulltone OCD with the gain set to about 11 o’clock. I also tried fronting the amp with a tube screamer (both with some dirt dialed in, as well as with no dirt and the tube screamer volume wide open) and wasn’t nearly as impressed with the tube screamer fronting the amp. The secret sauce here is the power amp. It responds very much like the Orange Rocker series tube power section. I’m not sure how Orange achieves this, suffice to say we are getting very close to solid state technology being sonically as good as tube amps. The CR-60 reverb has three (digital) settings, Plate, Hall, and Spring) and all sound very good. The amp sports a buffered effects loops that sounds great, as well as foot-switch jacks for both reverb and channel. The send, return, channel, and reverb jacks are all located on the bottom of the amp’s head (as opposed to the back of the amp). I have mixed feelings on this. It’s definitely harder to plug into them when they are located underneath, but it also works much better for placing the amp on a tilt back stand.I love that while this amp is solid state, its build quality is every bit as good as any tube amp I’ve owned (many over 20 years of playing). The Orange Voice of the World speaker does good at gig volumes, although I might try to throw a V30 into it, just to see how it does. Overall I’m very pleased with this amp. If you are considering this or the CR-120 I can tell you (from experience) they pretty much sound identical. In a rock band setting I have found that I didn’t need the 120 Head or 2x12 combo for the extra volume……however the 2x12 or head with 4x12 cabinet will obviously push more air. If you mic the amp you will do fine with the CR-60. BTW, I initially purchased a Boss Katana based on all of the hype, but returned it for the Orange CR-60. The CR-60 is far better sounding, and much easier to use in a live format. Great amp. You won’t be disappointed.

If you are looking for that old school sludge tone this is your amp! Channel 2 has "that" tone in spades, if you want to nail some old black sabbath you won't have any issues here. When you get the gain up to 1 o'clock the saturation and sustain is incredible. You can easily do more modern styles of music and if you shred you will love this thing. One of my favorite things about this amp is the clean channel, it works like an old non master volume amp, if you turn up the volume on that channel it will break up and push into ac/dc territory easily and sounds great doing it. If you boost that tone you can cover late 70's to early 80's stuff easily. If you keep that volume down it has a fantastic clean tone but I don't play clean so I just turn the volume down on the guitar and keep the amp volume cranked, works for me. On the dirty channel you can get a lot of different tones. With the gain low it does a nice bluesy tone that is really unexpected for me with this amp. When the gain goes up you get into the brown sound pretty easily and can push into metal territory. Once the gain gets beyond 3 o'clock it becomes a little too much for me. You seem to lose all of the note definition and it gets very mushy and very fuzzy. I keep the gain around 1 o'clock and I am very happy with that. It absolutely has that Orange tone, it's thick and bassy while having an odd fizz to it. I can't put it into words but it's the orange sound in your head, no doubt about it. If I have a complaint about the amp it is that it has a ton of bass. You just about cannot dial it out, so, get used to that. If the treble goes too high to try to compensate it gets tinny, so, bass it is. The tone is so thick and hairy that it takes some getting used to. Think of a Marshall with 2 compressors out front and that's about right. Now, that is all with the guitar volume on full, if you bring that down a bit it starts to gain some clarity and then you can have some real fun with it. You lose some of the sustain but you gain a lot in tone, with the guitar volume on half it does a great classic rock tone albeit without the presence that we're all used to. It does everything but with hair and bottom end. Hard to word what it does but it's a good thing. As far as the rest of the amp, the construction seems very solid, thick wood and flawless finish. The speaker sounds rather boxy but that could be due to the fact that it is new. There is plenty of punch and it sounds good at low and higher volumes. As some reviews have said this amp does respond like a tube amp. It's hard to tell that you're playing solid state, seriously. I have had many amps from Marshall, Mesa, Peavey, etc. I have had a Kemper, I've played a ton of amps and this one stacks up. Would I say that it's as good as JCM 800? No, a Rockerverb? No, but, it's a really good amp. If you need something on a budget, or perhaps you want something more portable, or maybe you just want a reliable little practice amp this is great choice. It is pricey for what it is but I plan to run this thing for a while and travel with it so, I think it was a good investment. I would recommend this amp.

I considered this amp after owning the original cr35. This amp has a great tone with decent headroom for mid size concerts. I have received many compliments on my tones since owning this amp. I mostly utilize the clean channel. The dirty Chanel sounds great too with moderate gain. This amp is made for working professionals. I work my weekly gigs with these and I don't have to worry about tube failure. As a side note the youtube/audio clips don't do this amp justice...go try it out for yourself.

You know that late 70s warmth that everyone tries to elicit from their valve amps? Well this mi amigos has it in spades. You will be scratching your head at how this solid state amp sounds better than a lot of tube amps (all analog baby). My first valve amp was a Jet City 20w head and this Orange amp is by far superior in tone. My last valve amp was a hand wired AC30 with alnico speakers and I won’t hesitate to claim that the Vox was equal but not superior to this amp. Also, have you noticed that almost all non-valve amps are digital modeling these days? If you want a non-valve amp that is not a modeler, this should be at the top of your list. Trust me, you won’t regret it. One more thing, the reverb on this amp is that rare kind that does not drown out the presence of your tone in a washed out sound. It simply adds reverberation to your sound. I normally play dry as can be because of the tendency of reverb to wash out my tone. With this amp I don’t have to.

The Orange CR60 Combo Amp -Solid State I've tried many other solid state amplifier through the years , from Fender , Peavy, Marshall ect,ect. This CR 60C is without a doubt one of two of the best sounding out there, the other being made by tech 21. The orange will give you a focused clean , with two stages as you increase the channel volume , a focus overdrive comes into place , nice, real nice and on the dirty side of the tracs,its four stage gain control takes you from smoky blues ,to all out ACDC, and more , 60s, 70s, 80s, Rock On !!! The controls are simple easy to use just like the Rockverb , plus you get a three level reverb , Hall, Plate and my own favorite spring . The amp is well designed for gigging as it is built like a tank, very road worthy. Price, you get what you pay for, simply if you want profession electronic just like anything else you pay for it. Great playing, a lot of Musical combination and no warm up time like tubes, but let there be No Mistake , so far no matter how great the electronics are the is no replacement for the characteristics of a tube amp , but Orange has sure come clear in there duplication of sounding just like there tube version of the Rockverb in this Solid State of the Art amp , The CR60C , for me is a perfect ,and first edition of a solid state amp to my collection of over 15 tube amps ranging from VOX, to Marshall ,and all down the Alphabet. Let me add that zZounds, who I've been dealing with for over two years are dependable, and as always, fast with their shipping !!! Always a pleasure to deal with!!

This is an exceptional combo amp! The sound on both the clean and dirty channels is outstanding, and the controls are easy to use. This is the best amplifier for the price that I have ever used. (And it looks pretty darn cool as well...love this thing!)

It did the job... sounded okay. The effects were not dependable, and would kind of work sometimes and not others. Sounded okay, but not as powerful as a comparable Marshall. Didn’t send it back, but sold it eventually and wouldn’t buy it again.
