M-Audio SBX8 Powered Subwoofer (1x8 in.)

While M Audio's Studiophile BX8 and BX5 offer as much or more bass response as you'll find in any monitors of similar size, the addition of an SBX subwoofer puts 120 watts of truly bone-shaking bass in your face

If I could have four or a 10 or 12" model M Audio has my money.
Sound
Bought one......then bought another. I cannot say enough about this sub. I am using two of these along with the BX 5s. This system can go louder than your ears can handle. I produce heavy bass music and these deliver. I have them crossed at 120. I can also put on Saving Private Ryan and be on the beach. No joke.
Features
Features? Electronic crossover networks in both subs. I found that one overrides the other so one has to be the master and the other the slave. Pure bliss.
Ease of Use
Hook em up, get small satellite monitors like the bx5 and you are set.
Quality
Heavy duty.
Value
The best.
Manufacturer Support
Not needed it.

M-Audio SBX Subwoofer Customer Review

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Sound
this really improved my monitoring setup. i have the 5" M-Audio nearfields and while they sound surprisingly good by themselves the cross-over feature in this sub allows them to focus on what they do best. i haven't tested different locations for it but i did tune the cross-over freq & phase. since bringing it home i have been playing all of my instruments and some of my old mixes and it just brings them to life--again, the bass is good but the main improvement comes from the fact that my small speakers don't have to deal with the bottom end any more. i can play synth patches and 5-string bass at levels that i feared would tear the BX5's apart before, now they are clear and powerfull.
Features
the adjustable crossover is the only feature that you need.
