Feature:
Perfect for converting audio from your analogue mixer to be recorded on pc or mac. completely adequate for any 8bus mixer. capable of connecting a total of 4 Delta1010s providing you have the pci slots available. M-audio totally scrapped the use of ADAT and mic-pre's bringing the price right down, effectively making it the one of the best products yet cheapest parts of any studio, and thats a good thing! there are no excuses for not using a proper preamp

Quality:
light but rigid construction, once its rigged you wont ever need to touch it. However, due to how m-audio used a unique adapter with an external transformer to avoid heat problems + electromagnetic noise, the cable is not very durable and got damaged after a year. i called m-audio, they directed me to their retailers. I had to wait ages for it to be replaced, i was more than ready to just but another 1010. my advice is, avoid having to rewire a studio over and over and you be fine. would rather they had figured out using a kettle lead instead. thank god the problem wasnt the unit. if you ever have this problem make sure you bargain hunt through their retailers. prices are totally different from company to company.

Value:
for a developing analogue based studio this product is great and definatelly value for money. start of with max 8 tracks, then if u feel the need for 16, buy another, and another and your at 24. its probably more hassle thinking about buying more cables. if you can afford it you can just buy a 24 I/O. but under a tight yearly budget this product was great.

Desirability:
more like, "i want another one" i hooked this up to a mackie 248bus for a college, then realised its expansive capabilities of up to 4 delta1010. i actually want to get another 3 for the college and have 24 tracks connected direct, as well as the last interfaced wired into the 8 bus. i still love the fact that u can configure everything within the software.

Sound:
as clear as an audio interface needs to be, and fully customizable settings from with software interface

Ease of Use:
1 - installing hardware (if you know what your doing)easy 2 - check M-audio software (not that you need to, but again if u know what your doing) easy 3 - check and set I/O defaults on your PC/Mac based sequencer (you'll know how to, if you've got this far) 4 - done, easy - powers on with your computer - interface is easy, everything controlled via software - once hardwired you wont touch it, so u get longer cables and have it rigged out of reach if you must

Support:
ordering a new powersupply took ages due to a lack of stock, if u ever need to, do some bargain hunting for it too, they can be expensive.

Overall:
it serves its perpose and that wont change in the analogue mixer environment situation. what you see is what you get, and with a expansive capabilties it does more. if you choose to go adat, you might as well have a full digital mixer like the mackie d8b and theres loads to choose from. but until then, i cant see myself wanting any other mixer or audio interface it does its job, exactly how it should nothing else!

Feature:
no mic pre. no headphone. cumbersome pci/25pin scsi connection. just 8 ins, 8 outs, 1 midi i/o. kinda lame if you ask me after being forced to convert from the digi 001.

Quality:
solid metal construction...i could probably lob the unit across the room and it would be fine. but the quality of the engineering itself on a more minute level is fairly cheap. after returning the unit one time for logic board failure i failed to see the point of being raped of another $150 when the unit tanked again [this evening] and decided to open it up myself. bulging capacitors and what appear to be cold solder joints--no wonder the reasoning behind opening the box will void the warranty.

Value:
by comparison, i suppose it would be worthwhile. at this point they would need to pay me use one, though.

Sound:
The converters in these boxes sound great when they are not spewing distortion and noise in place of what should be your music. Every 10-20 MINUTES(!!!!!!!!!) of operation under less than demanding conditions produced clicks pops and crackles which would become constant, loud distortion eventually taking the place of the music itself. I'm running a G4 dual 1.25Ghz and ProTools Mpowered [Lame, but cheaper than the mbox2 pro].

Ease of Use:
the interface is easy. plug goes into hole.

Support:
The half-wits over at M-Audio could not pinpoint the cause of the distortion problem that i believe was the death of the unit in the end; regurgitating amateur support techniques like "repair drive permissions" or "move the pci card to a different spot."

Feature:
Its lack of control features is great since they are not needed. Plug your amplified signals right in. I use a small, cheap Yamaha mixer for all monitoring and Cakewalk Home Studio playback (Delta 1010 1/2 outs to Yamaha and all other mixing boards or inputs go there as well, send it all to a headphone amp, no latetency problems at all).

Quality:
Rock solid. No excessive heat. Accidentally dropped it and I guess I got lucky cause nothing happened to it.

Value:
Very good. I only gave it a 9 because I'm waiting for their next generation products that will no doubt be even better!

Desirability:
Must have for my setup, recording four piece band.

Sound:
Without question the Delta 1010 provides a clean and true A/D conversion. Upgraded my setup with an Allen and Heath mixer for its good preamps and this was worth the cost, but then again this adds quite a bit to the total cost to upgrade to the 1010. The Allen and Heath is perfect for the 1010 becuase its preamp direct outs go right to the 1010. Like others I'm probably going to add another 1010 to take advantage of all 16 preamps on the mixer. For vocals using a Focusrite preamp, works excellent as well.

Ease of Use:
Nothing to it. The included M-Audio program allows you to control the volume of your studio monitors.

Support:
Not used.

Overall:
If it broke I would go buy another one right away!

Feature:
Nothing extra, but all you need for a pure interface (provided you want to use a mixer or outboard pres).

Quality:
High quality - I've used this interface for 5+ years (however long they've been out), and it's never failed.

Value:
Excellent value - it was when I bought it years ago at $600, and it's a steal now.

Desirability:
Well, it looks to me a bit like some sort of medical equipment, but I like the utilitarian vibe - it looks like it's well-made, if nothing else.

Sound:
Excellent converters, best I've heard in price range.

Ease of Use:
Simple to use and configure, and great compatibility w/ various software and hardware.

Support:
Never needed to deal with them.

Overall:
An excellent, no-frills machine that does just what it should and doesn't tack on a bunch of half-baked 'features'. It's not a complete solution (you must have pres or a mixer), but for most people with decent outbaord gear, it's a transparent, efficient, clean interface.

Miss having volume control for power monitors (although not crucial with volume control in software mixer), miss a line in for guitars.

Overall:
Very very good card. I have just recorded 3 tracks for a new album in the studio, one track running about 24 tracks (drums in new York parallel) with plugin compressors/eq on vocals, backing , guitars, bass, midi. Using hardware compression on in, plugin compressors inside. Never had any problems with cracking/pops, very tight sound that also has warmth. However, recently when using new mackie plugins with Traktion 2 (their reverb unit) I developed some cracking and pops, but when I took out and went to Traktion 2 reverb plugins-disappeared. Hmm-dont know where the problem is there. When set up right I cannot fault the sound in this-other than if you go real boutique you may get a more analogue type warmth-but I am talking pretty esoteric stuff that my rich mate has which I will never be able to afford (he also has a porsche boxer S).

i am on of the legions of delta 1010 owner who appear to have the curse of a crackle on every reording made with this card. i have tried many different things to get rid of it but it only occurs when i have my delta 1010 connected. others have tried changing virtually ever paramet in their pc and reinstalling windows to no avail. the crackling makes it sound like a vinyl recording and therefore unseable, i think this is a problem with the m-audio software. the sound would be ok if it werent for this but with it its useless.

Overall:
would be good without the crackling

Feature:
Wished it had a mic jack but if you use a mixer like me then no need for one.

Quality:
Well built and solid. No cheap plastic here.. Even the cord to plug into the PCI card is thick.

Value:
Value for price-best value for the money. As much as 10 I/O's how can you go wrong. You could even use up to 4 units on one machine a the same time. WOW.

Desirability:
Appearance- matchs splendidly with my Audio Research Preamp and Amp. In fact it seems they are made for each other. (Audio Research SP-7 and D-60 AMP)

Sound:
Excellent sound quality and you could really hear what is going on. The converters in the box really does a nice job for such an fairly priced product. Having the breakout box and not having it in the case itself seems to cut out a lot of noise.

Support:
Dont' know so I will judge it from the website- but I don't need to call any techs since the website gives all the answers I need. IE driver updates, specs, etc. But I suppose that now Avid owns M-Audio it will be highly tracked for any complaints.

Overall:
NO plans to replace it because it satisfies my needs for the next 2-3 years and maybe longer. The only option would be a total digital setup but no need for a soundcard then because of firewire.

The only thing i wish it had was a headphone output, it would cut out a lot of the routing issues.

Quality:
Unit is very reliable and remains cool even through hours of recording. I recommend keeping the room cool anyway beacuse equipment in general tends to run hot after hours of use.

Value:
Great value for the price. i have a DIGI 001 too, but I love the Delta 1010 for it's easy use.

Desirability:
Gotta have it in my rig. I am about to add another unit for more inputs!

Sound:
Sound Quality is excellent! I have had several A&R's as well as pro studio engineers give me a lot of compliments on my sound quality.

Support:
I have only dealt with them once and they were fine.

Overall:
I am very satisfied with the unit and I recommend it for all home and project studios. I also recommend that these complainers learn more about recording and using their equipment before blasting this unit online.

Feature:
The control panel is a bit sparse, but now that I understand it I really do admire it's simplicity. I wish the MIDI ports were on the back of the unit but I can't complain there because I have the USB MIDISPORT 8x8 for MIDI connections anyway.

Quality:
I have had no quality issues with this unit. It works exactly as advertised and has made me a happy camper. I may purchase a second unit- you may run out of input ports quicker than you think because of stereo pairs.

Value:
It's the best bargin out there- although if I had realized I was going to need more inputs I might have looked at the MOTU offerings closer. Also, in this shifting era, one might now begin to look at offerings that include lightpipe, spdif, and 193 Khz ability if you really want to look to the future.

Desirability:
Looks like I'll be buying a 2nd unit to allow for all the inputs I have.

Sound:
The sound is right on the money- no issues here at all. The converters seem to live up to their reputation. I cannot speak as highly of the MIDIMAN USB Quattro, which did have a few small issues.

Support:
I rated them an 8 but I've never had to contact them. Product works as advertised.

Overall:
I really like this unit. It has never given me any problems. I do sometimes wish it had more LEDs on the front for that "cool" factor, but hey this device does the job and in my DAW, it is the heart of everything that happens.

I run a 2.8, 512, P4 with win xp. I have had nothing but good experiences with this unit. I use an external mixer and a bunch of outboard gear and no problems at all. The sound quality is excellent, and I had no problems installing it or anything like I've read about some people having. I can throw ANYTHING at it, and it works flawlessly. I'm going to buy another one so I can have 16 inputs and outputs. If you are looking to get serious, and start up a serious project studio get this, it really is great.

Feature:
All the features I need. Optical digital I/O would be great, but the coaxial digital has worked flawlessly for me.

Quality:
My Delta 1010 was one of the early models and I've twice had issues with burned-out capacitors that result in a nasty buzz. They've since fixed these issues. It's otherwise totally rock-solid. If you get a newer one, you shouldn't have any issues.

Value:
The Delta 1010's only competitor in this price range is the Layla 24 which I'm told is also excellent. You get all of the same features in the Delta 1010 (Minus optical digital I/O) for about $100 less.

Desirability:
I don't buy electronics for "sex appeal" That sounds way kinky . Since it would be kind of difficult to strap one of these on and play a gig with it, I couldn't care less what it looks like. The Delta 1010 is the heart and the backbone of my DAW rig.

Sound:
Excellent. Transparent sound quality. Outstanding A/D converters. My studio rig consists of: 1.5 Ghz Pentium 4, 768 MB RAM, Windows 2000, Sonar 2.2, Cool Edit, Sound Forge, CD Architect, Wavelab. Mackie SR24-4 console, Yamaha NS-10M monitors. AKG C100S, C300B. Shure SM-57, SM-58.

Support:
Outstanding support. When I spoke with the tech at M-Audio, he knew what the problem was immediately and gave me an RMA with no hassles. I got it back within two weeks and it was as good as new. Worked great for about three years. During this time, I've moved to the LA area. The second time I had the problem, I was able to drive it up to M-Audio and they had it fixed within an hour and I was on my way home. Works great now.

Overall:
I'll keep on using my Delta 1010 as long as possible. I can't conceive of it becoming obsolete anytime in the near future. The only way I could think of supplementing my setup would be to buy another one so I could have 16 analog I/O's, but that's really more than I need.
