Sound:
Well I could not find anything anyplace on the net to dig deeper into this drum so I went ahead and got it anyway because I own two Black Panthers and they are the best snare drums I have ever used bar none, I wanted a snare that I could "knock around" Take to jams, not mind if someone else played it etc, Anyway It was delivered today and after a quick head change ( Remo coated controlled sound) And I left the resonant head alone and a fast tune up I was very pleasently surprised! If I closed my eyes I would swear its a Panther as far as it sounds! Nice bright snap and definatly a cutting Crack, If you want a loud tight snare drum this will do the trick! It plays great and sounds great, not much more to say, Its a mapex and there snares are some of the best. If You cant afford a Black Panther dont hesitate in buying this, The only difference is in the material used for the lugs and throw off which obviously are not the best out there but they should hold up Just fine. Overall I was very happy with buying this drum at that price, well worth the money, The finish is gorgeous and the picture does not due it Justice! I seemed to find the sweet spot on this drum ( The Birch 5.5 x 14 ) in the higher tuning ranges Just FYI..

Awesome value, you will not find another snare for this type of money that can compare, Mapex did a fine job with this drum and at a price point that makes it easy for anyone to own a profesional sounding snare drum!

Hopefully it holds up to the rigors of the road and blues jams! Seems like it will with care just as anything else.
