Til it breaks on me! Hopefully never!
Sound
For me it was out of the the KRK's rocket8's or these and after testing out the KRK's, I chose the Mackie MR8mk2's. They sound more cleaner and have a nice bottom end to them that make your mixes just a little bit easier on you. These studio monitors really get the job done!
Features
They built a great studio monitor!
Ease of Use
Very straight forward set up, just hook them up and start enjoying!
Quality
The speaker is very well built! and they sound great!
Value
For the price, there a steel! Can''t get any better than this
Manufacturer Support
I have really never had to contact Mackie for their products have never given me any trouble whats so ever! Good products from people who care about sound!
The Wow Factor
They are clean looking monitors, no fancy gadgets that just stand out but do nothing, very sleek design, a James Bond Of studio monitor if you will! Nice Finish.

It's truly a difficult task to choose a reference monitor. You can read article upon article from Sound On Sound, but it doesn't get you anywhere but askingmore questions. I love these monitors. They translate. The best thing to do is buy what your budget can afford and it's just trial and error. All I can say is that I am very happy. Truth is, is that you can really make a great recording with $200.00 monitors or $3000.00 monitors. Look what The Beatles had for gear. Record record and record and then listen to your stuff through iPods, boom boxes, car stereos and expensive 5.1 systems. If it translates then your doing something right.

I'd buy them again.
Sound
These things sound great! I'd read reviews that said that these were like a home stereo speaker with lots of bass response and that studio monitors are meant to sound bad, because when you get them sounding good you know you've hit the sweet spot. There might be some truth to that, but that's like saying you should marry an ugly girl because she'll be grateful. I had the original KRK Rokit 5's before, and truly if you got a mix sounding good on those things it would sound good anywhere. Problem is, there was hardly any bass response on those, so the bass player could have been playing a different song for all you'd know. These have great bass response, but the mids and highs are crystal clear too, not muddy like the KRKs always sounded to me. Maybe it's not fair to compare a 5" monitor with a 8", but the Mackies only cost me about $100 more than what I paid for the Rokits. If I'd known how good the Mackies sound I'd have never bought the little KRKs.
Features
Nothing special here. Just slider switches to attenuate the highs or lows, and an input level potentiometer. The input level knob is about the size of a worn #2 pencil eraser, and hard to locate without turning the speaker cabinet around so you can see it, but it's the kind of thing you usually set once and leave, so no big deal.
Ease of Use
Sounded great right out of the box.
Quality
Really too soon to tell. Just got them today. I'd heard that Mackie moved MR8 production to China, so my expectations were not great, but so far I have no complaints.
Value
Great value!
Manufacturer Support
I've always had good luck with Mackie products. Had an Onyx Satellite audio interface a couple years ago that was DOA and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.
The Wow Factor
Nothing fancy to look at, but they sound great.

"I love these speakers!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought these speakers about 1 1/2 years ago and I paid about $240 each. It hurt me but I am very glad a bought them. One of the speakers actually started making a weird sound so I contacted the place where I bought them and they said to contact Mackie. I got an immediate response from a very knowledgeable person at Mackie and to my surprise, the warranty was 2 months out of date, but they knew I loved the speakers and ended up sending me a brand new one and I sent back the old one...wow! Now that's customer service! I use them to play through with my electronic drums, key boards, bass guitar or anything I want and they just don't let me down. And I see you can buy them for $150 each here...wow that's the steal of a life time! If your in the market....these are some powerful, great sounding speakers in my opinion!!!

I do have to say, I have heard a decent amount of midrange priced monitors and these ones might be at the top! I feel they are more crisp then the KRK's they're often compared too. Pros: Very well built, solid construction. Crystal clear mids and highs and the bass doesn't miss. EQ filter was added for highs and lows, nice bonus. Cons : I will say that one of them gets a lot warmer then the other. To the point where I have to put a fan on it after hours of use. Other then that, I don't really have any complaints. Also - Make sure you run atleast 1/4" balanced, if not XLR to these bad boys. Give them the best balanced signal ya can!
