I'm doing a "restomod" of a '64 Ludwig Super Classic that I've had since I was 15. Most of the old hardware has been lost, broken, and replaced, and is mis-matched, so I opted for new hardware. Although not exactly like the old Ludwig HH stands, this thing definitely has a "retro" vibe and was helped to complete the kit restoration.
Sound
Everything about this stand is top quality.
Features
The mechanism to tilt the bottom cymbal is unique and functions better than the traditional thumb screw. The spring tension adjust and locking clamp is very nicely done. I don't like to play with toe stops, so I removed the stop from this pedal and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is held in orientation with a a recess in the shape of a Ludwig keystone - very nice touch. The new style spurlocks are unnecessary for me, but a nice touch for those who foot- slam the *^&%&% of the their hats
Ease of Use
Easy to set up and play. My only complaint is that it does not have a memory collar for the top tube. I used some white nail polish as an indexing mark for repeatable set-up.
Quality
It is extremely well made, top notch, and has a very cool look.
Value
I got this as a return scratch-n-dent, which saved me $50. The "problems" with it were a non-issue for me: the feet were pre-Acculite Sustain Feet (which I don't really care for), and the paint was scratched off the toe-stop, which I removed any way (silver spray paint would fix the problem). I think it's worth the standard asking price at ZZSound - it was GREAT to get it for $50 less.
