Honestly, this has been my first experience with an in-home digital recorder, but it's been a great one. I don't know enough about the other brands and models to say if this one is better or worse compared to the others, but I am overall satisfied with my purchase. The only complaint I have is that the built in effects weren't...uh...how can I say this diplomatically?...not...very...good... but hey! I didn't buy it to make it into a stomp box. If you can read it's easy to use, the touch sensitive screen is another added convenience, and with all the virtual tracks and 99 levels of undo you can (if you are anything like me) play something a million times til it's perfect in everyway and then go back and compare and contrast performances and keep the very best one without losing any of them.

Feature:
I have the D1600v40 which you have to hand feed each song one at a time while burning a CD. I understand the Mark II has the "disk at once feature", but that doesn't help me. hehehe

Quality:
The only problem I have had is a few disk errors, which optimizing the entire song from start to finsish will usually fix. I can see a reformat coming not too far down the road...

Value:
Great Value

Desirability:
Looks good to me.

Sound:
I try to keep the level as close to peak as possible without any clip readings. That ensures higher CD playback volume and no clips.

Support:
I have had no problems to contact Korg about.

Overall:
2 years would be my guess. I have had this one for a year, so I am half way there. My replacement will also be a Korg!

Feature:
I liked that it came with cd drive/burner. I really liked the touchscreen.

Quality:
I am concerned about the harddrive and the cd drive. I don't want to wonder everytime I take it somewhere, will it come apart. The idea of it being protable is taken awway if iI have to take apart the drives.

Value:
This is definitely worth the money I paid for it and more.

Desirability:
How do you find a digital recorder sexy????

Sound:
It puts out a very good, accurate sound.

Support:
Haven't had to deal with them.

Overall:
I expect to have this and use it for a long time.

I've used this unit for about 1 1/2 years now and have had no problems. If your new to recording like I was it will take some time to figure out the many features it has to offer but once you do you will love it. I have to say at this point I wouldn't be able to advance my musical abilities without it.

It does every thing and more then I need very simple to work with. The guitar effects are the best around the mic sim helps out and the quality it great.
I have a 3 piece band and we were able to start recording right away and the recording sound better then the studio we were going to buy it.
you can also switch drives on this a big plus.
so we have all the room and storage for are projects.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
Feature:
It needs sends and returns for exterior processing, rewiring from speaker outs is a pain. I would say it offers more features then most on the market.

Quality:
Have had several problems with the hard drive freezing up and have needed to reformat the hard drive twice. It is a very temprimental machine and has several programming gliches that cause freeze ups and lost data. Save your work often.

Value:
Quality for Dollar, even with gliches I still think this is the best deal around. Especially for people new to recording.

Sound:
Online effects are good but somewhat limited in chaining. You will need outside preamps and eq's for vocals.

Support:
I have owned the machine 1 year now and have found that the Korg website and information is not very informative. Most of the info I have needed was found on the web chats.

Overall:
I am satisfied with the product and hope when I really have time to study and learn it, it will do all that I need it to, for a very long time.

Be prepared for a healthy learning curve. Built in drum tracks for scratch only.
Guitar and bass effects reasonably good.
Capable of doing a great CD, but you have to spend a lot of time with it to get there.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
Feature:
I'm glad it came with the cd drive. Least useful for me is the midi, I have no use for it. I wish there were a few more editing capabilities, such as are available with the Roland series, but that's why Roland is in a whole different price range. LOL.

Quality:
The only worries I have are the touch screen dying out, so I once read oil from ones fingers kill these quickly, so I use a pointer to touch the screen, hoping to prolong it's life (I know you can access everything from the value dial too). The levers that eject the hard drive and cd from their wells are poorly made. The explainations on jumper settings is sketchy, especially on the cd drive,so I had to fiddle with it a few times, and these levers actually came apart from their attachments to the body of the case after 2 uses (they are only attached with plastic "rivets"). Otherwise, it seems it is built well, and everything is user friendly.

Value:
For the price, this is the best value on the market for ease of use, functions, number of inputs, capabilities, etc.

Desirability:
I really don't find equipment "sexy." It is a visually attractive piece of equipment with it's buffed silver exterior, the orange screen is easy on the eyes, the blending of the colors of the faders and such blend well with the overall color scheme. To a female buyer, it is, as I stated before, visually attractive, but it SO clashes with all my other equipment, which is basic black. Just joking.

Sound:
Very expressive and responsive. Picks up with extreme sensitivity. I use the auditech. midnight blues series dynamic cardiod mics of different varieties, and have excellent results using little to no equalization. I am recording acoustic instruments and vocals, with one electric bass input, for a bluegrass band.

Support:
I'm unable to make an assessment at this time.

Overall:
I really wanted the new Roland 2400, but couldn't afford it. But, maybe this will meet my need for a longer time than I think it will.

I have owned Tascams and Yamaha casette recording studios and uesed them for years.

I purchased this studio in February, 2002 and it continues to amaze me with something new in features that I learn every day. The recording quality, versatility, recording features, playback features, effects processing, and on and on are amazing!

You couldn't go wrong. I record with a Kurzweil K2600, Martin accoustic and Fender Stratocaster and I have a hard time going to my daytime job!

I can't belive the quality and depth of sound that I can achhieve and neither can the people who hear my CD's!

I have 69 fully arranged 8 & 16 channels songs on the 80GB hard drive with multiple efects, scenes, virtual tracks, etc. etc. and have room to spare.

It is very easy to set-up and get going and the documentation is great. Technical questions are answered promptly (one time was necessary and that was because I missed the explanation clearly in the documentation!) and all I can say is:

I have been attempting to record quality pieces for years and I

never!

thought I would be able to achieve what this relatively inexpensive (considering the results), almost studio quality instrument has given me.

...No reservations or regrets whatsoever!!!!!!!
