zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us.
Feature:
- Very editable - Great Leslie simulation - Leslie settings are stored with each preset which means I can configure it to mimic several B3/Leslie combinations and save them with each patch...very nice! - The knobs & drawbars send PROGRAMMABLE CC messages, which means I can set them to control other devices. I set them up to operate the B3's controls in the studio...very useful. - Nice keyboard with fast action - Did I mention how editable it is???

Quality:
I think it's well made as far as the case and electronics go. My major complaint is the finish. It attracts dents, scratches, and nicks. It also starts peeling off (like that bad shelf paper my parents used in the 60s...ouch!). What's up with that?

Value:
It's expensive, but I a b-stock with a few minor dings and saved myself $350.

Sound:
Picking a B3 clone is a very personal experience, and you really have to spend some time playing and tweaking all of them in order to find what you're looking for. I've owned several of them, including: Roland VK-7 Roland VK-8 (two of them) Roland VK-8M Native Instruments B4 As any B3 lover knows, there are a lot of variables that go into that sound, including the tone, leakage, C/V, key click, percussion, Leslie, reverb, distortion, etc. The reason I went clone shopping in the first place was to get all of those features in one place. Naturally, you won't find one clone that does them all perfectly. At some point, however, you find a sound you can live with and you go for it! For me, that choice was the Korg CX-3. I am particularly picky about the Leslie simulation, as I do NOT want to carry a Leslie around...the CX-3 does a superb job!! The Roland VK line does a lot of things well, but their Leslie simulation can't touch the CX-3's. The VK-8 is also very difficult to edit, and you never know exactly which "value" you are setting a parameter to...it's a NIGHTMARE! The CX-3 is deeply editable, and you always know exactly what you're setting. If I had to complain about anything in the CX-3, I would zero in on 3 areas: - the C3 setting is a little too heavy for my tastes - I wish I could get the Leslie rotor ramp down speed a little faster - the EQ settings (particularly the midrange) are not what I'd choose to bring out the best sound in the CX-3. A proper Leslie demonstrates a peak at 2.5KHz, but the mid EQ settings on the CX-3 obviously don't accentuate that frequency. An outboard EQ is necessary. Other than those things, the CX-3 is king!

Support:
I haven't dealt with them, but they did release a major upgrade to the operating system (2.0), which added a number of new features that I really found useful.

Feature:
The instrument includes a very good expression pedal... ..(pity they didn't include a foot-switch for the Leslie as well)..! Luckily I already have a Yamaha alternate action foot switch. This can be programmed on the instrument to operate the Leslie in either alternative fast/slow mode, or only when the switch is held down...very good...! Full programmable MIDI implication built in, and viewable on the large display.

Quality:
Quality...WOW...a typical Korg...! I purchased the best bees-wax polish to keep the woodwork in glowing condition...just like you would on a real B3...! The drawbars, switches and controls are excellent quality, and the very large display is probably the best out there, and so easy to read.

Value:
Value...? Difficult, this one.. Mine cost brand new, Version 2,

I love the Hammond Tonewheel Organ...period. I've played lotsa Wanna-B's, but the sound was always lacking. Perhaps they were too perfect, too much like what Laurens Hammond would have made, had he had the technology in the '30s; or maybe they just plain sucked. Either way, no other clone has made me just giggle when I play it...no other clone has allowed me to close my eyes and hear the 300-pound beast growl, sing, scream, and whisper all at once (though the V5 did an admirable job)...no other clone has been so imperfect... Frankly, the new CX-3 just kills. I gave it a 4 for value simply because it's so expensive...you could pick up a real Hammond (probably not a B ^_^) at that price...though you couldn't actually pick it up....another handy feature of the CX-3 (it's only ~35 pounds!).

If you're serious about your organ sounds, want something amazingly close to the real thing, and want to gig with it without killing yourself or your friends, then the CX-3 is it. Go ahead and wait till you have the cash to get it instead of getting a cheaper clone now...you'll thank yourself the first time you play it.

Absolutely amazing. The key response is great for my fast runs. Drawbars are in the spot where I can play on the fly......just like the B-3...Not too sure on the Leslie simulation because I'm not an expert on this...I've heard many many leslies in my day and am not sure what the perfect one should sound like. But obviously right up on it you can't fool anyone....but at a reasonable distance, it's very very good. Percussion, vibrato/chorus is on point. I play at a church....and it's great for that use, also when there is not an organ available, I got one right here...this is my fourth Korg board...all which are very reliable...good job Korg!!

This is the first portable keyboard that sounds like a B3. Korg has certainly nailed the sound and feel of the real deal. I have owned and played B3s since 1966 and owned an XB-2 since 1992....but the XB-2 is gone now, traded in on the CX-3. Only complaint I have is the distortion control....I just don't like the way it works in conjunction with the pedal volume control. Other than that, the CX-3 is the way to go. On every gig I play people come up and ask me "What is that keyboard you are playing that sounds like a B3"......I just tell them to look at the front of the keyboard where it says KORG CX-3.

I have owned two B3s and an XB2. You'll never top the B3 and Leslie combo...but when you compare 575 pounds of B3 and Leslie with 37 pounds of CX3 it is a no brainer if you are playing gigs and you don't have roadies. The CX3 sound is exceptional and the internal Leslie is the best. I was using a Motion Sound Pro 3 with my XB2...but I sold the Motion Sound because you don't need it with the CX3. Try it...you'll buy it.

I just purchased an XC-3 ($1799.00) and I love it. I had played an XB2 since 1991 using a Motion Sound Leslie. The Korg XC-3 not only plays and sounds better, the built-in Leslie sounds as good as the Motion Sound. The only thing I don't like about the XC-3 is the "expression/overdrive" control. I prefer the XB-2 way of making the overdrive kick in. Other than that, the XC-3 is the way to go.

I love my C3/Leslies, and will never again part with them...BUT...this is the first non-tonewheel piece of gear I've ever played that made me think I was playing a real tonewheel machine. The organ sound is spot-on nailed...the Leslie simulator is by far the best I have ever heard (90% there...if you can, listen to the Leslie simulator in stereo...you can hear the rotor sweep from left to right, just like a stereo double-miked spread)..the overdrive is sweet, and the chorus/vibrato is the frosting on the cake. My only gripe...the keys, though good, are still not as swipable or smooth as the real thing...but they are still miles ahead of the XB-2/VK7, or even the XK-2. No, I'm not parting with my C3 for anything or anybody...but...I'm not going to haul it around, either. But hopefully, I will be hauling around a new CX-3 before this year is over.

Why wait to go to church to listen to the beautiful sound of Hammonds when you can have it right in the comfort of your home or studio? The Korg CX3 has that unique "Church Of God In Christ" feel! From a soft gospel-like touch to the rocking staged concert jump. It's like a dream come true. So why wait til Sunday? Thanks to the Korg CX3, we can now "Shout at Home"!

I am a Hammond XK2 player.

There are some features on this organ that are much superior to the XK2.

Chorus:
I prefer Korg's implementation of the classic Hammond mechanical chorus over the XK2, it just sounds better, and the stove switch is more like a B/C3. The best part is, the fact that you can turn the chorus on or off on the upper and lower manual separately. It really annoys me that the XK2 can't do that.

Leslie Simulator:
The chorus does not loose intensity when the Leslie simulator is turned on. On the XK2 the Leslie simulator seems to drop off a little when the chorus is in C3 positon.

Overdrive:
I love this feature! When you back off on the expression pedal the distortion will fall off. The XK2 just gets quieter but not cleaner.

The only real Down side to the Korg CX3 is the price{$2600.00 list}. Wow! A-lot of money for a keybord that only does one thing, though it does do it well. Frankly I'm going to stick with my XK2 with a real Leslie for now. I will definitely reconsider, if Korg lowers the price.
