"The New Overlord of Tone!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I should be playing this a long time. I may upgrade the tubes to 2 JJ 12AX7's, a JJ 12AT7, and 2 JJ EL84's when the time comes. I would definitely replace it if stolen. If I were to upgrade to a 50W head, it would be the JCA50H with the J48S cabinet.
Sound
This amp goes from shimmering clean to down and dirty just by adjusting two knobs! I've heard friends gear which cost twice as much with half the tone. Takes pedals extremely well (especially my Visual Sound pedals).
Features
I would have liked a spring reverb, but again the whole Keep It Simple, Soldano philosophy applied. It has something other 15-20W amps don't have, a stand-by switch.
Ease of Use
Pre-amp, Master Volume, 3-band eq. If you can't dial up perfect tone, maybe you should stick to your Paper Jams.
Quality
Mine is high quality. Had to redrill a hole on the rubber foot of the cabinet where my 2 yr old tried to drag it across shag carpet. Of course he could destroy a Boss pedal if given 5-10 minutes :)
Value
One of the best sounding amps period. And you won't have to take out a second mortgage or sell one of your kids to afford it.
Manufacturer Support
They answered my questions very quickly.
The Wow Factor
Very stylish design, awesome tone, simple use, and great support. Makes me happy!

"Jet City JCA20H Head and JCA12S Cabinet"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Tone, simplicity, quality. A packaged deal at a reasonable price.
Sound
With two(2) EL84 "CHINA," three(3) 12AX7B "CHINA," at 20 watts, the JCA20H and JCA12S cabinet produced very clear and "clean" tones with either single coil or humbuckers(even when the coils are split). Setting the pre-amp "Gain" at #4 - #9, adjusting the bass, mids, and treble as appropriate, then use the "Master" volume judiciously to dial-in "Blues," "Goth," "Metal," "Punk," "Grunge," "Indie,""NU Metal," and even "Garage rock" at sound levels that do not bring the Sheriff's Department knocking at your front door. The JCA12S cabinet pushes enough air to irritate the local "lounge lizards" and knock the war paint of the faces of the old "cougars" on the prowl.
Features
The JCA20H is a simple single channel amplifier that will produce clean to gritty greasy compressed tones without the need for "stomp boxes." Using a "BOSS Fender '63 Reverb, FRV-1," and a "Fender '85 Strat" produced a nice "surf" tone.
Ease of Use
Power on, standby, bass, mid, treble, volume, presence, VERY USER FRIENDLY.
Quality
Simple straight forward construction, easy access to chassis and tubes. Durable materials. The product is made in CHINA, and like many other products, if given a little care and maintenance should last a very long time.
Value
The Jet City JCA20H head and JCA12S cabinet puts the "Soldano" sound within reach of most guitarist at an affordable price - GREAT VALUE!!
Manufacturer Support
The unit I purchased from "ZZounds" has been problem free and has not required manufacturer's support.
The Wow Factor
It's a box covered in "tolex" with a moniker fastened on. The "Wow Factor," "Soldano" tone at an affordable price!

"Great amp on a budget"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
This is a great amp for any guitar player on a budget. The tone is good. It is built like a tank and is plenty loud whether you are playing in your house, garage, or out at a venue. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I know it is loud enough to do a decently sized room without being mic'd but mic it and you'll be plenty loud for anywhere you'd ever play. For practice it will get over the drums really easily. Very pleased with this product as well as ZZounds. Will do business with both again.

Been playing for several years. Mainly jamming at home and doing solo stuff.

I play a little of everything. Mainly rock(classic, southern, hard), metal, country, and blues.

"jca20h and 112 cabinet"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
this little head and cabinet are great. $350 for a 20 watt all tube class A/B head and a 112 eminence cabinet incredible value. the amp drives hard but is a little brighter than expected. I guess it has to do w/ the cabinet in 16 Ohms and only being a 112. I hooked this up to record incredible for studio use. Great harmonics, and you can get some great squeals etc for soloing. Lack of effects loop?not a major bummer but would make this little titan next to perfect. If your looking at it buy it If you pair it with a 412 cabinet you should be able to handle up to medium sized gigs without using a mic

"Outstanding tube amp value. Plenty of versatility if you spend some time with the controls. It's a bit loud for "bedroom" use"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I don't think you can get a better all tube amp for this price. Build and sound quality are far better than the price would suggest.
Sound
The JCA20H is as simple as it gets. Warm tube tone with great overdrive when needed. There is not a lot of clean headroom (plenty for home use) but the gain is amazing. It's a bit too loud for most home use. I'd love to have this EXACT amp with half the power.
Features
One channel with gain, vol, EQ, and presence. It doesn't get much simpler, but you've got everything you need to dial in just about any sound you want.
Ease of Use
You have to spend a little time tweaking knobs to find your sound. There aren't any presets on this one.
Quality
Solid construction, especially for the price.
Value
It's a great sounding amp for the money. You definitely get more for the price than some of the more established brands offer.
Manufacturer Support
No Comment, I haven't needed it.
The Wow Factor
It's not fancy and not really pretty but it sounds great.

"Great tone at a great price!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

Overall I'm thrilled with this amp. I gave it an 8 because I really want to use it in more situations but I expect that it will fine.
Sound
Overall this amp has a nice high gain sound suitable for rock and blues-rock (which is what I play). Not that you can't find other useable tones but that is what I've been playing so far. I was concerned that 20 watts wasn't going to cut it but with my trio (bass, drums, guitar) it held up well. My bandmates have commented several times on the tone. I do find the highs need to be tamed a little and that may change as the speaker breaks in. I haven't tried it through another cabinet yet but I plan too. I've owned a Soldano and there is definitely some of his mojo in this amp.
Features
This is a single channel amp so if you need channel switching look elsewhere. Bass, Middle and Treble are functional and help dial in "your" tone. Prescence adds overall brightness. Gain and volume allow you to get the general sound you need with just the right amount of overdrive. Not a to of options but that's what I like. I'm a guitar straight into the amp guy so I tend to dial in a good tone and go with it.
Ease of Use
I had no trouble at all dialing up a good tone in a relatively short time frame.
Quality
This is a nice looking combo and the build quality vs. price is excellent. I intend to use this for club gigs and I expect it to hold up well.
Value
I am very pleased with the performance and tone of this amp for the price I paid. I have more expensive amps and I am not going to stop using them but my Jet City will be seeing more playing time as well.
Manufacturer Support
No problems so no comments here.
The Wow Factor
Very nice design head and cab.

"You've been warned."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

Again not a ten based only on Jet City as a company. If it was stolen I would not buy another because of them, not the amp.
Sound
This amp sounds incredible! I play a Strat and a Les Paul and this amp brings out the best of each one. It has a sound that cannot be matched by any amp that's even close to it's price. It responds just right to pick attack and loves pedals. I gave it a 9 only because it breaks up really early making it hard to get a clean tone that is as awesome as the overdriven tone, but that's not really that big of a deal for me. My Fender Hot Rod is gonna be getting dusty.
Features
I gave it a 10 because it has no features. You go from guitar, to tube, to speaker, nothing more, nothing less. Anything else you want in your sound is what effects pedals are for.
Ease of Use
If you can turn a knob to find the sounds you like you can rock this amp.
Quality
I had to send mine back to get a tube replaced, but other than that, this amp is solid. It looks as good as it sounds.
Value
I gave it a 5 based only on the crappy Jet City customer support. I would have given it a 10 before I dealt with them.
Manufacturer Support
If I could give Jet City a -10 I would. I purchased the amp in September and had to send it back to have a tube replaced. After dealing with Jet City only through email because you can't speak to anyone on the phone I finally got the return authorization for the repair in November. I got the amp back in December. Because of the experience I had with their total lack of customer support I will never buy another Jet City anything.
The Wow Factor
If you hear one you will want it.
