Not much of a Mandolin player when i got the wild hair up my fanny to try something new. After researching a lot and consulting my ever shrinking budget I settled on this Mandolin. I am not sorry I did either. The Instrument is beautiful and it has a great (to me) Sound. It feels good in the hands and has a very fast action. If you are looking for an instrument that won't cost you thousands, then I recommend this one to learn on, then you can always upgrade down the road...

This is actually a very nice entry level mandolin. And worth the money. Unfortunately, for me I couldn't live with the dark violin color. As shallow as it may sound I have to like what I'm looking at. I brought mine back to the dealer I bought it from and traded it for the brown sunburst model instead. I'm a happy camper now and hopefully a year from now I will be at least an average player.

This mandolin plays great. Real good tone. The only thing I can see to complain about is the finish is not flawless. There are blemishes under the rear of the fret board, pick guard and inside the scroll. Looks like the stain and or clear coat wasn't applied correctly. Not quite $299.00 quality. I like the mandolin well enough to keep it but would be a nice gesture on zZounds part to give me the blemish price.

To preface I am not a mandolin player. I'm a guitarist. I wanted to get something around this price range so i can skip the issues with having to set it up and all the work that comes with buying a really cheap instrument. Well let me tell you, that didn't happen. If your thinking about buying this instrument and playing it out of the box. Its not going to happen. ITs understandable that the thing wouldnt be in tune. The second i tried to tune the high e string it broke. That cover plate that hides where the string hook onto is very hard to get off. Moving on...Okay fine, found a string and put it on. Then i noticed how terrible the intonation was. I then spent the better part of ALL DAY trying to set the intonation and no matter what I do the D strings are always sharp when fretted at the 12 fret.Trying to play the thing I am spending all my time tuning. Every couple of minutes I have tune thing. It's just ridiculous. At this price point I understand its somewhat of a beginner instrument but this is going to deter people from playing. I think at close to 350 dollars you shouldn't have to then spend a day tuning. Im not going even into the finish flaws because all's that maters to me is how it plays and it doesn't play well. However i will comment on the end of the fret board that faces the bridge is all chewed up. It looks terrible. The bridge is maxed out so it cant go any lower. I tried tuning the string down a whole step which helped but at this point I'm done. Out of tune strings drive me crazy, perhaps if i wasn't a guitarist for 20 years I wouldn't notice it but that's not the case. I may try another go at a more expensive one because i really want to play.
