Feature:
I was impressed by the simplicity of the controls. One volume, one tone, and one 5-position pickup selector--that's it. Guitars with 50 knobs and switches annoy me. Unless you are extremely particular, you'll be able to get the tone that you're looking for.
Also, the Butterscotch Transparent finish is really, really nice! I just bought it because it's $50 cheaper, but it looks much better than it does in the pictures. The nice finish kinda makes the guitar 'feel' like a higher quality guitar.
Obviously the hardware is not top of the line. Don't expect it to be. The hardware is very functional but it's not eye catching. For my purposes, I don't need it to look pretty though, so I'm happy.
Quality:
As I said before, the Butterscotch Transparent finish is really, really nice! The guitar has a healthy weight to it and feels solid. It doesn't feel flimsy or like it's going to break, in fact, quite to opposite. I was looking for a guitar I could take everywhere with me and not have to worry about it. And this guitar feels like it will take quite a beating.
Value:
The value for me is fantastic. I wanted a guitar I could take everywhere I go and not have to tote around multiple >$1,000 guitars. I wanted something I could get a scratch in and not worry about it. But I also wanted a guitar that sounds decent and has decent action. In all of these respects, the Ibanez completely fit the bill. Now I can leave my expensive equipment at home where it's safe and still have fun jamming at friend's houses, etc.
Desirability:
Umm, I wouldn't show up with it at Battle of the Bands or anything. People that don't know anything about guitars will probably say, "nice guitar". People that know a lot about guitars will probably try to kick your butt--haha. Just kidding. If you want this guitar, it's because you're just starting out or, like me, want something that'll take a little abuse.
Sound:
I haven't played all of the top of the line electrics, but it sounds great to me. I compare it to my Les Paul, and the sound quality of the Ibanez is surprising--not AS good, but close. I was worried about plugging in the Ibanez and hearing a lot of buzz or hiss, but there is none of that. The pickups in this guitar are quiet and they reproduce the sound very well. If used with distortion or other heavy effects, it sounds great. It sounds okay clean too, but drier and not as full as my Les Paul.
Ease of Use:
As far as play-ability goes, it's decent, but you will probably want to do some fine tuning. My guitar came with a buzz in the E string and way too much gap between the strings and the fretboard towards the upper frets. I'm also going to put some lighter strings on it. It plays a little stiff. The neck seems just a little on the thick side (and I have big hands). The fretboard kind of has a chalkboard feel. Hopefully this is all something that can be adjusted or worked out by playing.
