I received the bass promptly and in great condition. It's beautiful.
However, I never touched a Hofner before and the low E sounded muted, thud-like, compared to the other strings. I thought something was wrong, so I called support, asked for a bass person, the person on the other end assured me he was a bass expert, I explained the problem, and he said I needed to get new strings (on a brand-new $2500 Hofner???) because the manufacturers strings are all terrible.
Well, I didn't believe him, and on further Internet research from people who apparently know about Hofner basses, the Hofner is DESIGNED to sound that way! That was all I needed to know.
