I received my Pre-73 DLX a couple of days ago from zZounds and have basically been just experimenting with it. So far I have tried it out on vocals with a Bluebird mic and on an acoustic guitar track with an ATM31 and it sounds excellent with both. It is my first quality mic pre, I have been using a TA-1VP and the Pre-73 DLX sounds so much better than that unit it's almost laughable. It can go from clean to a nice warm sound easily and colors my vocals in a complimentary way. It's built like a Tank, very solid. This one was a Blemished unit at a great price and after talking with a sales person at zZounds I bought it. It arrived in original factory packaging in mint condition, I certainly don't see any blemishes anywhere. I didn't need factory support because the unit works perfectly as advertised. Needless to say, I'm very happy with it so far and look forward to getting a compressor in the chain and spending more time recording with it. Oh, I'm ordering another one ASAP!

This is a very nice mic pre that covers a lot of territory for a very modest investment. I also own a Warm Audio WA-12, which is a great sounding pre-amp and the Pre-73 DLX, while capable of sounding similar, is more versatile. I like the way it compliments the sound of my Alvarez Yairi acoustic when I mike it with my Bluebird for recording, it really compliments that guitar and mic combination. I also like the presence the Pre-73 adds to vocals. This is a "must have" if you are on a tight budget and need a quality microphone preamp for your studio.

Was getting tired of the "thin" sound of a SM7B coming out of the DBX286S and decided to try out a stand-alone pre to see if there really would be a noticeable difference. Sure enough the GAP Pre-73 DLX brings out a richer and full-bodied sound from the SM7B.

This preamp is about as authentic as you can get, especially for the price. Matches up great with the Golden Age R1 MKII and Apex 460
