I've been playing (largely rockabilly) for 40 years. I've owned pretty much every guitar there is to own, Gibsons, Fenders, several Gretsch 6120's and Tennesseean's, and I'm completely blown away by this Guild. Simply put, it gets THE sound. It whispers sex and screams GO, but mostly it has the tastiest twang imaginable. The Bigsby's very responsive, and high enough that I didn't have to remove the pickguard to have a good range. It looks amazing and vintage as hell, but you can see that. If you're reading this, you're thinking about getting one. Quit thinking. BUY one. You know you're gonna. The price is half of what it should be (and probably will be). Enough typing, back to playing.

Got it this morning FedEx, Came in perfect condition, was even mostly in tune and already set up to my liking, It's a big guitar, and even sounds good unplugged, front pickup a little harsh but some tweaking of the vol and tone will cover that. A great old guitar style in a new body, love it.

Musical Background:

Been playing since 66,owened about all brands at one time or another.

Musical Style:

Blues and Jazz these day's.

Guild has knocked it out of the park with this guitar! Physically, it's beautiful. I particularly love the mahogany three piece neck and the flush mounting into the maple body. The physical only prepares you for the sound. Unplugged, it sounds like a classic hollow body f hole guitar. It has a slightly lower tenor most likely because the lower bout is an inch greater than say a Gretsch 5420. Plugged in and be prepared to be blown away. Had a little fret buzz, but that's why the neck has a truss rod and if you play, you need to be able to make those kind of adjustments as easily as you tune your guitar. Why? Your luthier can set your guitar up perfectly - for being in his shop. Take your guitar home and you're in a different environment. That different environment will affect your guitar and you need to be able to adjust it. Well, one slight adjustment and fret buzz gone. What's left is smooth playing over a beautiful rose wood fret board and jumbo frets. I was reading about new restrictions to the import and export of rosewood and was wondering what that means for the future. The only thing I'd change is instead of the poly finish, I wish it would come in lacquerer, but I know many would disagree and it would run the cost up. I do miss the master volume control that's on my Gretsch 5420. What I find most amazing about this guitar is the ease of play and the fact that it is very forgiving. I've yet to gooch a barre chord. The neck is thin enough I can get the thumb around enough to fret both the E and A strings. The Bigsby is is good, the De-Tune-O-Matic is about to be replaced with a Wilkerson. In summary, don't hesitate getting this guitar. Better than a 5420, it is to me the next step up between the 5420 and a full blown 6120. I'll be getting one of those next year, and I'll probably do it through zZounds. Excellent service. Thank you. Now, I need to get back to playing my Guild. Later.
