Gibson SG '70s Tribute Electric Guitar

Dim the lights and prepare for high-gain wailing, thanks to the Dirty Fingers humbucking pickups and fast action voluted neck found in this '70s style SG.

This 70's Tribute SG was very well made. Great selection of wood and the rosewood fingerboard is one nice thick slab with great grain! Intonation is excellent, the Dirty Fingers humbuckers are KILLER, and the vintage gloss finish is a nice step up from the faded and J series versions. Its a nice lightweight, yet sturdy SG! The neck on this is sweet.... wide and a nice D shape with some heft while not being unwieldy. I'd recommend trying one of these while they are still around.

I had a Gibson SG Pro with Bigsby back in 1972. I absolutely loved that guitar! I gave it to my stepson, who was learning to play, and he pawned it. I was sick about it, but I moved on. I was determined that I would have another one someday, so I recently purchased a beautiful Vintage Sunburst '70s Tribute SG from zZounds, and it is awesome! It plays better than my old '72 did, and it doesn't have that old SG problem where the G string constantly went out of tune. It was set up very well straight from the factory. I handed it over to the other guitarist in my band to try out, and he was amazed at how well it was set up. I have done nothing to it but replaced the volume and tone knobs with some speed knobs. It really is a dream to play, and the fact that it weighs very little is good news for my aching back!

Musical Background:

Been playing for 50 years now. Currently in a local rock band. I play guitar, bass, keyboards, mandolin, banjo

Musical Style:

Classic rock, mostly from the 70s and 80s. I have also played country, gospel, bluegrass and jazz.

"AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Those dirty fingers on the Momogany tone wood that is thin but strong the 24 frets, lets the vibration sing!,,,I was all over the beauty. This was what I was looking for! Unblievable! Wow,man! I love this guitar so much! I am going to buy the 60's tribute! I played the tribute & the 1960's original. They are identical! M y first guitar was a wanna be Mustang! Mad in 1956. It had one pickup that looked like a Gretch pickup but the sound the Japanese got from this was like crunch. Unbelievable. My next few were strats and Teli. Than I played the Les paul that had & still has (0T and 98T bright or warm. Than I bought another Les Paul Gibson that has 57 classics. Wow!, a PRS sounds way too bright. ESP Eclips with James Hetfield pups. Another Les paul . I thought the EMG Humbuckers on my ESP LTD eclips was the complete heaviness but when I first played Blackened! Master of puppets, Fight fire with Fire, some G N R! Dam! Awesome! Man! This Guitar with the Dirty finger Humbers is worth more. The only have afew that these guy at Zzounds & Sam Ash already sold out! They must have only a few left so if you miss I know its a regret that you will never know. Its your loss if you don't get this guitar! I mean the best sounding on ever guitar you will regret it. A Gibson cost on sale $1800 lucky you may find one for $900 with tax. I have never seen such quality for a great price, man! Your loss , if you don't get this.. No bull.

Have had this guitar for a month or so, and now that the honeymoon is over, this thing still kicks ass. I love the way it feels in my hands. Personally, it fits me well, nice width and easy playability. Right out the box, the action was set low and the intonation was spot on. The dirty fingers pickups (a big factor in deciding to get this model) are mean as hell, with great overdrive and sustain. Warmer that I expected, which is good in my opinion. I have a schecter solo that has Seymour Duncan pickups, and while they growl like these dirty fingers do, they are much more trebley. I like the warmer full sound of these. The action is great, the finish is spotless, the hardware is tight all the way around and it stays in tune quite nicely. Definitely a great purchase, very happy with this guitar!!

5th large purchase from zzounds, 4th guitar and my third Gibson from here. Every time I've received it within 2 days. The SG it's self is fantastic, not to heavy but not so lite weight it feels like paper and it has no neck dive. The neck is great feels fast and great in my hands. The profile is really nice a little bit wider than the 60s slim. Although I'm gonna say the fret work could be better it's not bad like on some guitars (cough cough ibanez) but I took care of it fast. The dirty fingers pickup in the bridge is great really full and hot, I not the biggest fan of it in the neck though I might replace it with something less hot. Also the gigbag it came with was atrocious, so bad malformed I can't believe there was a guitar in it let alone a Gibson, but I knew I wanted a case anyway. So all in all after all of my rambling. This guitar is sweet (with a little work) worth every penny. Totally holds it's own with my les paul.

"Great Guitar"

This guitar is great, but needed a little set-up when it arrived. Sounds awesome, I play through a 6550 and it sounds great clean and distorted. Clear notation with a little punch on clean, Nice deep bite with some overdrive. The neck feels great. 70's profile, nice and wide but not too thick. The volute, aside from giving me tremendous peace of mind(knowing how often gibson headstocks snap off), it also serves as a nice little pillow for my thumb. I would buy another if it broke. The gig bag it came with is thick and plush. Mine didn't come with the truss-rod wrench, perhaps zzounds can help me with that, or maybe Gibson.

Musical Background:

I have played guitar for around 10 years.

"Awful set up from factory not Zzounds fault! "

Took 10 mins to make it playable from box. Tail piece not screwed down, action way too high, and the pups touched the strings at high frets. Again not zZounds' fault. The sealed box was shipped from their warehouse.... the finish was okay. A few small faults in sanding and finish, but no big deal... Hardware and pups, wonderful!...If you get one like I did just set it up or send it back, zZounds is not the issue here..
