"Explorer 120"

I have 6 Explorers. I bought this one because of the binding on the neck. This is a rare feature on an Explorer and I think it looks particularly cool against the Cherry Red finish. I would have bought this as part of a "Limited Run" even if Gibson still had the regular Explorer in their production line up. Since they have not been producing the regular Explorers for a couple of years now, this makes this one even more special. The quality, fit and finish etc on the guitar is stunning, absolutely perfect...even though I opted for the "Blemished" option on the zzounds web site !! Saved myself 500 bucks ! The neck shape is as described, definitely one of the slimmest and fastest of my Explorers and the guitar set up very easily with a very few minor adjustments to truss rod and bridge. Plays like a dream, sounds absolutely killer.

This is my first Gibson and I was skeptical of the price, boy am I not disappointed! My ebony and white guitar showed up 5 days after I ordered it and that includes th he 4th of July weekend! Kudos to Zzounds! When I took the guitar out of the beautiful brown case WOW! Even better than the pictures! Beautiful pearl inlays and black lacquer finish! I stretched the strings and tuned it. The sound is incredable! I have several Strat style guitars so this was a little awkward to play at first because the 12th fret is so centered. But after a hour or two it felt awesome! Plays like a dream! The innotation and string height was perfect! The neck is a pleasure to play! It just felt right. Would highly recommend this guitar to any player that can afford it. It is a Gibson and made in the Great U S A!!!!!! Being a limited edition can only increase it's value! You can't go wrong! I am saving for a Gibson Les Paul next. Zzounds is awesome with the play as you play! Keep rocking Zzounds!

I got a great deal on one of these beauties from zZounds. Some one had sent it back ,because it did not work for them. All that was wrong with the guitar ;was the previous buyers lack of knowledge about how to do a set up. I own 11 PRS guitars some Fanos and other really nice guitars. After I set it up and set the pickup height correctly;the guitar sings. I have been playing for 47 years. So i know my stuff, and this guitar is the stuff. In the past 15 years I have not anything from Gibson except their Historic; 3 Les Pauls. an r6,r7 and a beautifully flamed r8. The quality on their Memphis line was sketchy. This guitar looks sounds, and plays at least as good as any of the more expensive I own or have owned. BUY ONE, but realize there is alot more to setting up a guitar than setting the string height.

I know this is a lot for an Explorer but it truly is worth every penny. This is not the "normal" slim 60s neck (my LPs and SG). It's a bit slimmer feeling and very fast. It is the bound neck which to me always feels better, could all be in head. The workmanship is fantastic. It's a stunning cherry red and a gorgeous slab. It's flawless and has the "new guitar smell!" It is very well balanced physically and literally screams when overdriven and cleans up VERY nice actually! I've gigged twice with it now and it's truly a pleasure to play. My main axe is a MusicMan JPBFR which is awesome, versatile and a completely different beast but of the 16 guitars that I own and 6 of them being Gibsons, this one is really exceptional. It also must be noted that it came out of the box nearly perfect for play. Usually Gibs need some adjustments. The only change that I made was lowering the bridge a bit and the E and G needed a very slight intonation adjustment. Neck is perfect! Also, the volume taper is very usable (I did not expect this) and allows for some quick sonic adjustments without going all wooly on you The 120 is not hype, it's one of the finest guitars I've ever owned!

This is my first Explorer. I do have the Melody Maker Explorer but that is an Explorer in name only. Although the Melody Maker is a great guitar, no doubts about that. I have many Strats that I enjoy playing too.The Gibson Limited Edition 2014 Explorer is amazing. The neck is really thin and it feels amazing. The pickups sound great and it came setup perfectly. I just tuned up and played for a few hours. I checked the body, neck, binding, knobs, tuners and nut for issues and found none. I am getting zero fret buzz. I really went over this thing. The case is really nice too. I am totally thrilled with it.

Musical Background:

I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and just for fun.
