Fender's lean-and-mean Standard Jazz Bass incorporates many of the original model's classic Fender 'firsts,' such as the offset waist and ultra-slim fast-action neck. It's updated here with 2 bi-pole pickups and American Jazz Bass knobs, giving you the best of both worlds and eras'some vintage vibe and appointments with some modern refinements. Learn More...

9 out of 10Feature:
This bass is of very good quality and will probably last me a long time. The only problem I had with it is the bridge is not of the best quality I have seen, the bridge on my bass kept winding down. I replaced it with a Leo Quan BADASS II bass bridge, no problems. It stays in tune very well.
Quality:
Very good except small hole, about 2 inches from the bridge.
Value:
Yes.
Desirability:
It is awsome, the finish is very good. Just like a big Stratocaster, very easy to handle, very appealing.
Sound:
It has a very nice clean sound, no buzzing or clicks in the pickups.
Ease of Use:
Very good overall. Some trouble with the bridge but nothing I couldn't fix.
Support:
Have not dealt with them, I doubt I ever will.
Overall:
This is one the most versetile sounding basses around, and would replace anything on it to keep playing it and will play it until it is unrepairable. It works very well for me and the music I play.

9 out of 10Feature:
It's passive. It has all the controls needed. I don't like the tuning keys. They seem to be loose when turning them. It's 16 years old so I'm not too worried about them. Once it's tuned it stays tuned. The neck is fine, easy to move on.
Quality:
The bass seems to be built pretty good. It has some dings on it but like I said, it's a '92. The tuners could be better but no big deal.
Value:
Well mine was cheap because it was used and I bid on it. I haven't had a chance to play a new one but the price of a new one seems fine by me.
Desirability:
I like the shape of the jazz compared to other basses. It's built good and is easy to use. The controls allow me to get the sound I want. The neck feels good, smooth, pretty fast.
Sound:
The bass I have is a '92 jazz. I bought it used off of Ebay. For being an older bass it sounds pretty good. I need to take time and adjust the bridge but I've had it for 3 months now and haven't done a "set up" yet. Originally I got it as a back up for my Ibanez SR500 but now I split time between them. I ended up putting some EB Flats on it and they sound good.
Ease of Use:
The controls enable me to get the sounds I want.

Overall:
I plan on keeping this bass for a while, at least a year. It's 16 years old so I'll end up getting another bass in time. I like the Standard Jazz. I'm debating on getting another Standard or saving and getting the Highway One. Either way, I'll be getting a jazz. Most likely I'll keep this jazz and trade my Ibanez for another jazz, regardless of model. If you want a nice bass, built good, good feel, and good sound, try a Standard. You may be surprised.

10 out of 10Feature:
standard features for a standard bass. does the job well
Quality:
very solid feeling. could take a few hits im sure.
Value:
if you're willing to spash out on a new pickups and bridge then youve got yourself a USA quality j-bass for about haalf the price.
Desirability:
simple and understated. very cool.
Sound:
stock pickups were a bit tinny, not a great low end. also very poor bridge made many frets, particuarly on the thick E string very buzzy. i put a new pair of seymour duncan 1/4 pounders and a badass II bridge and suddenly it stands up with its american cousins.
Ease of Use:
fantastic neck, smooth and slim. probably the best part of the bass.
Support:
no need yet
Overall:
potentially great if youre willing to work with it.

10 out of 10Feature:
it is passive and could use a new bass but overall pretty good
Quality:
This is an overall exceptionally well put together bass
Value:
the price is going up each year and its starting to get a little too much
Desirability:
sweet
Sound:
this bass is amazing. i bought the sunburst and the finish was awsome. The tone was much better than some of the ibanez's that were twice the price. its an excellent buy for the money
Ease of Use:
it is a very comfortable bass to play and the neck is a little big but puts the p-bass neck to shame
Support:
havent needed it
Overall:
10 years

8 out of 10Feature:
The neck is a little big for my taste, but it is a lot better than the p-bass. I really don't like the position of the knobs because it is right under the "strum zone". i play with a pick, so when i'm live i tend to hit all of the knobs and they sometimes get turned all the way around, which almost completly cuts out the sound. and i HATE the bridge. it's not terrible for adjusting or anything, but it is soo sharp. i've cut my hand on it multiple times.
Quality:
It's a pretty solid guitar as far as quality goes.
Value:
It's a decent price, but it gets marked up every year and think it's starting to get overpriced.
Sound:
Pretty nice and full sound. As far as the knobs go, there isn't much versatility in them. The sound with all the knobs pointed up is actually pretty good for any kind of music. It could be a little louder, but it is passive after all.
Ease of Use:
it's not easy to play with a pick, but when fingering it has a very nice feel.
Overall:
It's a pretty nice guitar, but i don't recommend it to people who play with a pick.

10 out of 10Feature:
it's a passive bass.........how many features can it have? I'm going to install either a hipshot or badass II on it soon, possibley a detuner as well.
Quality:
my only real gripe is the bridge.......but there again mexican fender bridges are not that good.
Value:
its worth the money......even if you do not upgrade it.....its a fine piece of musical equiptment and very versatile.
Desirability:
wanted another jazz for years.......now i got one.....yay for me
Sound:
this bass sounded fair at best......until i installed some bassline quarter pound pickups.......now it smokes!
Ease of Use:
there again its a jazz bass........with the upgrades of done mine rocks...not quite as good as my modified p-bass(added badass and a jazz pu) but it does quite well
Support:
haven't had to use it
Overall:
I expect after the bridge and maybe a detuner and a bone nut.....i'll own it for many many years to come

its what you need, nothing more nonthing less, but some might want more knobs, but this isnt a EQ bass...
Quality:
beautiful hardware, holds up nice
Value:
maybe a little pricey, but hey, its a nice bass
Desirability:
i have the sunburst, and with the turtle shell pick guard, it was dead sexy
Sound:
this bass has a awsome array of sound it can pump out, from slap bass/funk to fingering and punk all with a few twists. i knew from the moment i heard it, it must be mine.

Quality:
Made extremly well. No sharp frets. Smooth edges and nice paint job.

It didnt come with anything special, but the tone features are very useful.
Quality:
its a FENDER!!! wat would be wrong with it?
Value:
Little expensive for a "made in mexico." but still ok.. worth it believe me
Desirability:
i think its pretty damn sexy. lol. i got the midnight wine and its definately a great lookin color. the jazz body is definatley attratctive and distinguishable.
Sound:
great pop, great slap. the tone knobs give u wide spectrum of sound that is greatly larger than the sound spectrum of the P bass. dont even fret about the "JAZZ" part of it, u can play all types of music with this. i hooked it up with my distortion pedal for sum hard rock and it played really great!

Quality:
solid bass
Sound:
this bass sounds decent.
Overall:
overall. this bass is a marketing scam. the bridge is horrible. the tuning machines are loose. the over all feel and sound is very medicore(average)i should of just saved up a few extra bucks and gotten that schecter neck thru that i wanted. but now, since i dont have the money..i have to deal with owning this bass. the bottom line is..if you are going to buy a fender..dont waste your time..just get an american..or dont get one at all. id go for the second option if i were you.
