I am so proud to own this Fender Mustang. This is the guitar that made me want to be a guitar player. I purchased it from zZounds on 8/30/13, and it was waiting on my doorstep on 9/04/13, just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of In Utero. Do I even need to mention how awesome it is to have a guitar that was made in the exact same factory as Kurt’s actual Mustangs? The Look – I chose the Sonic Blue for obvious reasons. I actually like the fact that the guitar is immediately identifiable. This would be a beautiful guitar, even if it did not have Nirvana ties. The blue is stunning, and tortoise shell pick guard is a perfect contrast. The Feel – This Mustang is a very high quality Fender. The weight is well balanced, and the body of the guitar is slightly contoured to your body. It just fits well. I’m a big fan of the short scale neck, too. The strings have a little extra bend to them, making it easier to play overall. The Sound - Ah, yes. The most surprising part of this guitar is the wide range of tones that you can easily achieve. The JB in the bridge is a pure beast. It gives the guitar a very nice growl with a little distortion added, and a very warm tone when playing through a clean channel. The neck single coil gives you that twangy Tele sound. The custom pickup selectors are very easy to manipulate, giving you nice mixtures of a wide range of tones. Truly, this guitar will work for most sounds – Rock/Punk, Surf, Country, even in a worship arts environment. The Wow Factor – Wow, a big thank you to zZounds for offering the pay as you play. The entire experience of purchasing this guitar was very easy, and overall was just excellent. Another guitar player in my band uses your site for all of his purchases, and I can see that I will also keep zZounds as a weapon in my musical arsenal.

This guitar is awesome, Clean, Bluesy, Grunge- No where on this guitar does it have Kurts name on it. So it does't feel like a signature model. I ordered it Wednesday night at 11pm and received the guitar of friday in time for my gig on saturday. Not only is the guitar awesome- but this website is awesome. Pay as you play rocks! Finally a company that is willing to help out struggling musicians get the gear they need to start making money! You guys rock!

Musical Background:

I;ve been playing for about 15 years, Im the guitarist and singer in my own band

Musical Style:

Rock, Grunge, 90's Alternative

This is the ultimate Mustang. All Mustang lovers have a fever passion for them, and it's often a love hate relationship. The Cobain Mustang solves many of the inherent problems that come with a Mustang. The first and most obvious is the Seymour Duncan Humbucker in the bridge position. A Regular Mustang's single coils don't quite "get there" when distorted. This baby shreds when you add some distortion or OD. The old Mustang bridge has been replaced with an adjust-o-matic bridge. Now you don't have to de-string the guitar and pull the bridge off to adjust your action. This was a real pain on the old Mustangs. Another great addition is the custom pickup selectors. The originals stuck out quite a bit, and sometimes one would knock them out of phase while playing. These are flush with the pickguard eliminating the problem. Even with all these mods, any Mustang still needs a fair bit of tinkering. I changed the strings immediately, and adjusted my action because of initial buzzing. I also locked down and deactivated the tremolo. The Mustang Dynamic Vibrato is famous for never staying in tune. Once you get all that out of the way the Mustang is the greatest guitar there ever was. It is hands down the most fun of any guitar to play. It's got beautiful clean surf tone, and it shreds with a fuzz pedal too. You can put the pickups in reverse phase via the switches and get those wonky Telecaster sounds.
