"Solid Sound, great stereo imaging, I'm inpressed."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I think I will use these guys for a long time and be real happy with the ol' workhorses.
Sound
Clear, open sound. Tried a few others side by side. Only a set of Mackies more than twice the price had better sound because the bass was cleaner. Man, when I stuck my head between these babies it sounded like the singer was right straight in front of me. When the backup vocals came in they were like surrounding the vocalist...what excellent stereo imaging.
Features
I love the simplicity. When you have great sound you don't need to tweak.
Quality
The quality is in the amps and speakers...thats what really counts. The paint is a little thin but I don't look at the speakers when I'm mixing, I just gotta hear the sound.
Value
Best value for my money.
Manufacturer Support
Don't know. Hope I never need to.
The Wow Factor
I needed good speakers to mix with. Even Sony pro headphones give me at lot more ear fatigue than these.

Event TR8 Studio Monitors Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
For the price and the quality of their function, I don't see another candidate that can beat these monitors. I might add a subwoofer.
Sound
I A/B'ed the Event TR8's and M-Audio BX8's with an LTJ Bukem Drum and Bass CD, and a 60's Love Jam CD. I had a fresh pair of Sony 7506 headphones to use as my control group since I'm very familiar with them. I switched back and forth quite a bit, listening to the music in the headphones, then on one pair of monitors, then I did the same thing with the other pair. I then switched between the monitors themselves. The TR8's came etremely close to the 7506's - even in a room with no sound dampening, I still heard and felt the same thing the headphones were telling me when I listened to the Event's. The BX8's however seemed to have poor stereo imaging, and a few problems across many of the frequency ranges - I even played with the spatial switches they feature on the back - no dice. The BX8's might be more like the Yamaha NS10's in that they will produce a disco smile in your mixes because you'll sweeten up the EQ'ing in your mixes to hear the detail you want... I would rather take a transparent monitor and let my ear discern this, as I plan to mix many styles and moods of music.
Features
TUNED REFERENCE: No switches to tweak for acoustics. I set these up in my home studio and they sounded as good as they did at the store.
Quality
Quality at an excellent price. I had an Event Tria system before these, I never had to replace a driver, don't expect I'll need to with these.
Value
Go listen to them.
Manufacturer Support
Owning an affordable, high quality product that I've never had problems with or needed support for is enough support for me.
The Wow Factor
Not as "cool" or "techno" looking as some other near-field monitors out there, but damn if they don't sound incredible, especialy for the price. Maybe they should get a 10 for the fact that they aren't distractingly attractive next to my computer screen.

"Monitors should show your warts..."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I would maybe save up for Makie 824s next time but this has already helped me in my mixes and has folks coming over for cross referencing.
Sound
Agter 12 months of my mixes translated horribly across systems I went montiro shopping. After spending an hour listening to M-audio BX8s and Yamaha HS80M I went with the Events. Look a reference monitor should be flat. The M-Audios had too much low end color and the Yamahas while sounding amazing, put a 'shine' on all mixes, even ones I knew were bad from cross referncing on Rokit8s, Event TR8s and a pair of Makie824s. All of the warts and mistakes were clear as day on the EventTR8s. Plenty of low end and a very flat response. Unforgiving, yes but it will make your mixes better. Excellent honest response for monitors in this price range.
Features
The XLRs and lack of settings on the back is actually useful. You get a clear unbiased reflection of what you are doing right and wrong.
Ease of Use
Plugged em in to the XLR out on the Makie board and was ready to roll.
Quality
Heavy, biamplified and should last a long time. Two friends both released have sworn by them for years.
Value
At $500 a pair how can you go wrong. 100 Watts per cabinet is enough punch for most home studios. Plenty of range for electronic music
Manufacturer Support
Dont know yet
The Wow Factor
Black on black, fits any studio setup.

""Tuned Reference hits the target""

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I don't expect to need any different monitors unless I do a complete studio upgrade, in which case I might add some other bigger monitors while still using these for my nearfields.
Sound
These speakers deliver a smooth and honest reference for my mixes. I was impressed by the non-fatiguing flow of sound. Good EQ reference throughout. Low end surprisingly accurate for this size speaker. I'm very impressed by these monitors. If just plain true is what you like, these speakers will deliver.
Features
When they called them "Tuned Reference" monitors, they hit the target. No need for all the tweaking adjustments. Very simple to hook up. RCA, 1/4 inch or XLR inputs can accommodate most any application. Me likes.
Ease of Use
Nuttn' to it...Just plug em in, turn em on and take off. They work really well. Very simple to use.
Quality
Heavy and sturdy. They look a bit plain but couldn't tell it in the mix. Neat, clean and black monitors fit with most any environment.
Value
For the money I'm impressed and very pleased.
Manufacturer Support
Have not needed any repairs.
The Wow Factor
The look and performance of these monitors makes them desirable. Neat, clean, attractive. I think they "look good" sitting in my studio. I intend to keep them for a long time, in fact, I may just hang on to these.

"Event TR8"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I picked up a set of these that are used and I have to say that I am pretty pleased. I was considering KRK, M-Audio or Behringers. But when I plugged these in, I really liked what I heard. They are definitely "flat" tuned reference speakers. Although they are slightly heavy on the bottom end it's over all a great monitor. And they aren't a light set of speakers either! The price wasn't too bad either!

"A good buy & mixes translate better than something that will cost you twice the price!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Don't plan on replacing these anytime soon. they are all around great all-purpose nearfield monitors.
Sound
I got some used and have done lots of experamenting with mixes of differant styles and moods. excelent flat response. Highs are crystal clear and the bass isn't overwhelming at all. the biamped system stereo imaging is perfectly flawless and symetrical.
Features
no external eqs or other junk to deal with (other than gain) which I keep at 0 as they are coming streight from a m-audio delta1010 interface. what you hear is what you get.
Quality
the independantly tuned tweater/sub amping makes for a flat response. It isn't widly known, but I contacted event electronics to find out what exactly the differance is between the newer tr-8's and the more expensive ps-8. turns out that the drivers are Identical and that cheaper cabinet construction and manufacturing location allow them to sell for considerably less. the only aural differance is about 3db less overhead than the ps8. However, the "newness" factor of the tr8 sometimes makes them even more expensive then the ps8 i'm told, so shop around and we'll have to wait for that to wear off to find its true value.
Value
definatly shop around. online tends to be cheaper than guitar cener for instance. Unless you get pleasure from peeling the wrapper off a brand new pair to get that factory-fresh smell, getting you're hands on a good used/ slightly used pair will save you tons. (its not like they're gonna deterierate too much from normal use.)
Manufacturer Support
haven't needed any yet
The Wow Factor
sleak black on black cabinetry looks very professional.

Event TR8 Studio Monitors Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
Nice flat even sound. Mixed one project on these straight out of the box, and got great results. Once I figured out how to translate the bass response(which can be heavy if you are not careful) my mixes started coming out the way I wanted, and were pretty consistant. The mix that I did also translated on a surround sound system, car stereo with the Monsoon 10 speaker system, a sony walk man, and a audiovox boombox, and I got the same sound and mix. I love these speakers and I'm currently working on another project and will be mixing in about another month. I've had these monitors for about a year now, and I still love them. Don't sell these babies short by a long shot, They are worth the money!!! I'm also thinking about getting the TR5s to go along with them.

"Tuned Reference my ... (only the low-end response that is)"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The sound quality snt bad after trimming the bass. It doesnt have bass trims on its back. A big Minus if you ask me. Because they made the bass driver too f loud. Im already looking for a new pair. And selling these. Whoever has a btter treated room and likes a lot of bass, can have em. Im loking for more clarity and alot more tight punch. I cannpt bring these back, thats a minus. So either I wil have to learn and deal with them (with an equalizer to trim the bass and they are good to go) or I will sel these and get cheaper speakers with a smaller Bass-driver. 8" is just too much for my taste.
Sound
Out of the box, with the trim set at 10 or 11 o-clcok, they are LOUD! Will easily fill yer room. Highs and Mids sound honest and you really get what you put in,BUT, only after trimming the BASS-end!!!! Yes, That bass is way too f. loud! So loud it makes these sound muffled and boxy out of the box cuz the bass overwhelmes the highs and mids. I cant understand the Event-engineers designed the bass to be so high in volume in contrast to the mids and highs, ARE THEY DEAF??? whats up with these guys? After trimming the bass equally with an eaualizer, you get pretty good response, but not the best. You also get alot of boomy bass form them, too much for my taste. You easily over-compensate and your mixes will translate too lifeless cuz you trimmed the bass down too much woth these Events... Again, whats up with those engeneers at Event? I was hoping for speakers that neednt much trimming and sounded good out of the box, I was dissapointed. Not bad, but not the best. The BASS-end is the worst part of these, cuz it is just too much. And it doesnt come woth trims on the back tocpmensate for your own taste. A BIG TWO POINTS DOWN
Features
- They are big, 8" woofers will always muffle the mids+highs on speakers like these, No trims to cmopensate for own taste, Bass is too f much. Very fatiguing, Sounds too muffled and boxy if you do not trim the bass down. + They look classy, thats all. All black with a silver nameplate and a green light.
Ease of Use
Easy to install, setup, maybe has a narrow sweetspot. Trimming the bass is a f chore. The bas is way too loud, no trims to easily sompensate. VERY VERY BAD. Tuned Refference my A...
Quality
Very well built, insides also very neatly soldered and tugged. ONLY!! 1 tweeter was popping out when I got them. The screws easily fall out during transport and did damage the bass driver-unir just a tiiiny bit, nothing much.. Smell nice too..
Value
In europe they go for 666 euro a pair. Thats about $800? Im pretty pissed I got these, but more pissedcuz I believed Event opn their word and just blindly bought them without listeningin stores. Please. Listen before you buy. Tastes vary, and what might sound like crap to me, could sound awesome to you.. The american pricing seems fair. Europe pricing is just a little too high for these..
Manufacturer Support
Yes, their email response is just sad. I dont think their priority is on helping customers who bought these fair and square, If you need help contact the salesperson you bought these from. I don't think Event is open to suggestions either. Only praise (thats when I did get an email back) My 2c.
The Wow Factor
The sex-appeal is conservative on these. Look sleek on the forn, the depth is large. You really need space to put these. The Bassportis what you wuld expect form others just a little better but srill.

"BUYER BEWARE!!"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Believe it or not, I have had worse products from other companies, but they ususally came from China.
Sound
I run a mid level professional studio in Missouri, and also own a pair of these monitors, so I guess I have a right to speak my mind about these toys. The sound quality is OK. Better than a Wal Mart home stereo, for example. Hard to find the sweet spot, low end is weak and not very tight (I haven't tried the XLs, but I suspect this is why they came out with them not long after these originals). The high end is ok, if not a bit strident at times. Mixes on these monitors never really translated well to other systems. It isn't my room, (my mackies are way better and prove that). Ear fatigue has always been a problem with me on these monitors. They are only really decent at low volumes, but if you want an honest pair of all around mixing monitors, don't waste your money on these toys that are obviously geared toward amateurs. They are really only good for A/Bing.
Features
Ok features, I guess, but the variable adjustable trim was a stupid idea. For proper stereo imaging you need to have exact output on both sides. The trims and their positions on these things make that near impossible.
Quality
Over rated, over priced, under supported. The sound is really only ok, but they wear out WAY too fast for the money involved, and as a side note, after owning a pair for a week, the stickers (ALL of them) began to peel off on their own. CHEAP. Think twice before kissing your $500 goodbye. There are way better companies out there. Don't settle for cheap toys like this. If you care about your music, shop around.
Value
If value means 'cheaper than the other guy', as Event no doubt considers it, then yes, they are a 'great value'. But if you calculate value on a price to performance ratio like it should be, well, then you really can do better than this company. PLEASE don't be an idiot and waste your money on this crap like I did. Buy another name, because you may be the next sucker on their list.
Manufacturer Support
After four emails to tech support after one of my TR8s went kaput and started playing distorted and quiet output at odd irregular times after only a year of moderate use, I gave up on them and threw these P.O.S.s away. Yeah, that's right. I threw them away. I couldn't get someone to even give me so much as a confirmation email. They never answered their phones when I called either! Can you believe that!?!You live and you learn. I was a sucker and I was had. They make a lot of money on people like me, and can't even invest just a little of that money into even a decent mockery of tech support. I don't think they even have that. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!
The Wow Factor
I had a pair, and I threw them away. I wouldn't take them back if they gave 'em to me.

These where my first monitors. Some engineer fella recomended Events so I went for these... big mistake. Good thing 7 years gone by and I know way better now.
Sound
Nearfield my S. If you use these as nearfield you are probably def and dont know about it. They are too loud, lows are a colored disgrace, mid lows are muddy and highs are metalic. Fatigue is a constant. Forget producing music with these.
Features

Ease of Use
They are defenitly not neutral and your mixes will suffer hard.
Quality

"TR8 is a great sounding speaker. Everyone is intitled to his/her opinon. Go to the store and listen to TR8 speaker. That is my o"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
TR8 are great for its price. Eventually I will buy ASP8 or later models. Great company in my opinion. Keep rocking!
Sound
I am not a professional, but not an amature when it comes to producing a great sound. This product is a definite buy for a buck. It outperforms all of the products in that price range with unbeatable 35hz responce. That is all I have to say. I heard ASP8 in the store. Didn't have enough money to buy them, so I got TR8. TR8 is the closest thing to ASP8. ASP8 go for $1300, and they pop out a clean 280 watts of pure undistorted sound, mean while TR8 only can handle 100 watts. NO DISTORTON. Great product.
Features
XLR, TRS-1/4", RCA (banana plug) are the ins you have to deal with. It is professional enought even for a real professional. Green led in front to let you know the power is on.
Quality
Really comfortable and warm coloration and material is used on the cabinet. Even though it is not a real wood cabinet, but it really serves the justice for the price range. Front of the speaker is really good looking. Woofer and tweeter are a million bucks!
Value
If I could say 11 or more I would. This is the best price/product combination you are going to find on the market today. Believe me i looked. Don't listen to other people's opinions. You are your own opinion. Go to the store, bring your mix that you have made on PC speakers or best home stereo system and try to listen on TR8. If you know your sound and your music you will apreciate this product.

Do your research people. A good way to find out about a company is to get ahold of their srvice dept before buying their product. It's easy to do and you may just walk away with a better idea of whether or not you want to do business with the company. I didn't do this and now I regret it. I am out $500 dollars and I can't seem to get anyone at the company to answer their phones or their emails about a return authorization number. HORRIBLE company! BUYER BEWARE!!!
