The Wow Factor
Music Style: Blues, Jazz with a punk background and a current metal band - I'm so confused!
Back to Product Information
Sound: Pretty hot pickups which are quite extreme in tone for a production guitar. Bridge is _high_, neck is almost jazz/blues worthy. Thin mahogany body is toppy as all SGs tend to be, but capable of some good low end as well. I give it a 9 'cause it is pretty much a dedicated metal/punk guitar for me and suits that role well in terms of sound. Feature: Electronics in general needed a tweak of some sort, but once done are actually quite good. Grovers are a nice touch, but not top of the line tuners. Frankly the pickups could be a bit clearer, and absolutely needed re-potting. Once re-potted, however, they put up with a ton of gain and tone shaping without going microphonic. Bridge and tailpiece are adequate. Switch needed a hit of conductive lube, and probably will again. Quality: Finish had a couple of blemishes on the side of the fretboard - looked like a bad masking job. Neck is well set and stable for an SG. Pickups needed re-potting, and switch can be flaky. Re-potting isn't a big deal, but a nuisance for a new guitar. It shouldn't be necessary on mid-range instruments, but I understand is a pretty common issue with Epis. Value: Not cheap, but reasonably priced for the quality. Manufacturer Support: Can't say. Haven't dealt with them. The Wow Factor: I'm a soft touch for black SGs. I just have to deal with it... Overall: Does what I want - harsh noise. It cleans up well enough to play just about anything that could be termed popular in the past 35 years.

SPOTLIGHT REVIEW
Sound: I was looking for an Epiphone SG style to add to my collection and I got a great buy on this one. It fits my style very well as I'm a country picker and have adapted the guitar for this. I've added an Epiphone EZ B-Bender that I had laying around to this guitar to raise the B string a whole step to C#. I wanted access to single coil sounds so I've had it wired with just a master volume and tone on the top two knobs. The bottom two which used to be volume and tone for the bridge pickup are now pull pots activating a phase switch and a coil tap which works both pickups. The standard knobs are still on the guitar so it looks stock (except for the EZ Bender........ Feature: The most useful feature I like about the guitar is the overall weight and that means that it'll get a lot of gig time, especially with the modifications I've made on the electronics. It didn't come with any accessories but I've bought an Epiphone SG case for it. Ease of Use: It's very playable and gets all the sounds I need. Quality: I think it's very well made and the finish & fit are very good. The only thing I had to do with it was lower the action at the bridge and file the nut slots a bit and it was ready to gig with........ Value: It's well worth the selling price.... Manufacturer Support: I've never needed to deal with the company before...... The Wow Factor: It's a practical addition to my guitar gigging collection..... Overall: I'll keep the guitar for a very long time and have no reason to replace it. I gig on a regular basis and use various styles of Epiphone guitars depending on my mood. I have all styles of Epiphones including Les Pauls (2), Sheraton, Casino, Zephyr Blues Deluxe, Riviera P-93, Masterbilt dreadnought, Mandobird mandolin, Elvis Tribute acoustic/electric.

Sound: It gets great sound, much better than anything I have played before (jacksons, squire strats etc) Feature: it didn't come with anything, just the guitar, but it goes fantastically with the stuff i bought at the same time (birthdays are great, so much stuff...), a Peavey Rage 158 amp, a marshall mini-amp. it just gets great sound whatever its played through. it sound particularly great through my brother's 300 watt beast of an amp :) Quality: Epiphone make great guitars, the only problem i am having is that it goes out of tune quite quickly, but that be the new strings or that i have my bedroom window open all day... Manufacturer Support: I haven't dealt directly with Epiphone, but the shop i went through to purchase it was extremely helpful, ordering it in from a different part of the country due to a shortage. The Wow Factor: it is a very pretty guitar, everyone wants to play it lol. i use a Strap-Art white on black tribal strap, it looks perfect, the laydeez love it.. lol Overall: i think i will play this guitar till i die, or till it falls apart, it is that good a guitar.

Sound: The stock pickups give a loud and aggressive sound for punk or metal. You could probably do bluse stuff as well. A beginner guitar playing teenager that likes metal and hard rock would like these as these seem to be the case. A budget guitar for those who like heavey music. I however upgraded the stock pickups for the Gibson 500T and 496R. With those I can play thrashy sounding metal or hard rock. I accidentally broke one of the lugs on the volume pot and had to replace it with a CTS volume pot. I can assure you the Epiphone pots are just as good as the CTS pots. Feature: I have no idea what Epiphone woods are really made of. Although they say "Mohagany" I highly doubt that is the case. But the wood does the job. In fact more guitars should be made of Alder which is cheaper and more plentiful than other woods that they make guitars with. The kill switch is really cool. I really love the thick neck! I totally avoid the 60's slim taper for the thicker necks. I can play faster and more accurate with thicker necks. Something I really thank Epiphone for. Ease of Use: The thick neck helps with my playing. Also the stock pickups are themselves good for practicing soloing, cause so many pickup brands have too much compression so when you want to play fast it gets discouraging. these pickups aren't so compressed so you get a good response when you pick the strings. Quality: I can say the wood does the job. This guitar could last many years of playing. Well at least till the frets are too worn. Value: Yes. I love Epiphones cheap prices and thick necks. You can always upgrade if you don't like the stock pickups. The Wow Factor: With Gibson 500T and 496R I have a fun to play metal guitar. Overall: I would say you get what you pay for. But why I bought this was because I love the thick neck. These guitars are fun to do upgrades as well without breaking the bank. The light weight too is a plus. Love the black satin finish. I upgraded the pickups to the Gibson 500T and 496R cause I needed a guitar to learn to solder parts to. Also I love the Gibson 500T. However, the stock pickups are fine if like how they sound. I will always buy from Epiphone because of the thicker necks they have to offer. As well as cheaper prices.

Sound: I bought this guitar last years from a pawn shop actually, my other guitarist plays an sg so i said why not give it a try. I was more used to my tele (which i love and toured with) but i've been playing this one ever since. It sounds great althought i do want to change the pickups, only for the simple fact it's plenty of low end not enough high. We play heavy music but not super heavy ( Lower def, oceana, neweruneroath) that kinda thing, and it works great for me. excpet when i play leads but again an easy pick up swap is all i need. i love this guitar otherwise. Feature: For getting it from a pawn shop it's really all i needed. bridge and neck pickups, switch, 2 volume and 2 tone knobs. i was happy with that. Ease of Use: I give this an 8 just because it is top heavy, which when playing live can get annoying. expecially when you're a high energetic band. but other than th at it plays very very smooth. I got it proffesionally set up for drop C# and put d'addario 11's on it. plays smoooooth. and when it's time to get heavy. this guitar does the trick. Quality: it's a great guitar, very sturdy, suprisingly light as well. Value: For it's price you can't go wrong. Manufacturer Support: havent had to deal with em. The Wow Factor: I saw it in the pawn shop and bought it on the spot. and it was in great condition. not a scratch.. so when i talked him down to $150 it was a done deal. It looks great to the flat black and the roman numeral 12 on the 12th fret, rad! Overall: I'm going to change the pick ups in it and play it for awhile longer, my tele is now my back up, and really only used to record leads. This is my main guitar now. ONce i have the cash i'm getting a c-1 hellrasier for sure. NO FLOYD ROSE though, can't stand them things.

Sound: AMAZING sound. The Sales rep at Bizarre played it for me to make sure it had the sound I was looking for and I was blown away by what I heard. I am pretty much a beginner but I have had previous experience with Acoustic Guitars and different brands of electric guitars. As a longtime Metal and Blues fan I have a trained ear for guitar and I know what I like. Sounds wicked with my little cheapie Behringer amp. Very Impressed Indeed! Feature: It sure would have been nice if my this guitar were to come with a case but the cases for it are fairly inexpensive and easily obtainable. Ease of Use: Quite simple. Nothing complicated here. Quality: No noticeable blemishes, I love the flat satin black finish and the black chrome. The fit seems fine to me. I always worry about things breaking and I am pretty sure I will end up breaking a string or two as I get better and learn how to really make my guitar scream. I am unable to predict the lifespan of this product but hopefully my guitar will hold up to the test of time. As for use on the road I believe this guitar would be fine if babied as it doesn't appear to be as heavy and durable as some products out there on the market. Value: In my opinion... YES! Manufacturer Support: I just barely bought it so hopefully it will be a positive experience if I need help from them. The Wow Factor: Massive Sex Appeal. Love It. Dark and Black with a Goth Feel. Overall: I Have No Intention Of Replacing This Item at this time.

Sound: It sounds great yeah. I'm playing mine in standard C and it works like a dream. it has fine tuning pegs so tuning doesn't take all day, and it holds its tune very well. Feature: Humbucker Pickups, fixed bridge, low profile C neck, its great for shredding out awesome metal solo's and rhythm. Ease of Use: The instrument itself is easy to use its keeping it maintained, the nut on the input jack can get knocked off causing annoying problems, basically you need to know how to re-solder the wires. Quality: the product is made well minus the fact that the input jack can get messed up just by stepping on the chord which happens a lot, and because of this the internal wiring becomes disconnected and requires solder and other matainance, its not bad just annoying. Value: you get what you pay for and then some, it plays very well, it holds its tune, it looks good, it's a good guitar but it has a few shortcomings. Manufacturer Support: N/A, i've done all the maintenance myself. The Wow Factor: This guitar is as visually pleasing as it is sound wise, its matte black, and all around awesome. Overall: I'm actually getting quite PO'ed right now, for the third time the audio jack has disconnected on me like i said its a good guitar but it needs a wireless set up which i cant afford.
