"Unbelievable fit, finish an overall quality for this price"

I don't know how Epiphone does it. I own 3 Martin Acoustics and now quite a few Epiphones as well. The quality of these is incredible. This new red DR100 in particular is a stunning guitar to look at. The finish is what you would expect from a $2000 guitar. The action is low right out of the box and spot on with a nice deep rich sound. This is the 4th DR100 I have bought, have given a few away as gifts but this one is staying with me. I originally bought it to take out when I didn't want to ding up one of the Martins outside, but it's just too nice to take too. If you are buying for a beginner guitar player, start with a good one and buy this. If you have been playing a while and looking for an extra guitar without breaking the bank this one will surprise you. Like all other Epiphones, my only recommendation would be to replace the strings before you even bother tuning the guitar...they are junk. BUT the guitar itself is a GEM!!! Buy it, you'll be glad you did, I am.

"The pics do no justice for this guitar!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
The pics look like the guitar is splotchy, with no wood grain showing through the finish. Trust me, this guitar is beautiful, even stunning for the price. The gold hardware is a nice touch. The back of the neck is a gloss finish matching the rest of the guitar, and though I prefer matte finishes on the necks of my guitars, this is the exception. It is very smooth, and not grippy at all. It came with a low action out of the box, and it sounds amazing. It has a 1-11/16 nut width, the same as my Epiphone Les Paul, but this guitar is much easier to play. I can be sloppy, and still not mute strings because of the spacing, so it would be GREAT for a student. The strings that came on it are stiff as a board, I'm not sure what the gauges are, but I plan to replace them with Earthwounds. Right now this guitar is so perfect I am scared to mess with it! As usual ultra fast shipping by zZounds.

"Epiphone DR-100 Limited Edition Wine Red"

Wow! The wine red finish on top, darker red with a deep woodgrain finish on the sides and back, and white edging is beautiful. Looks and plays like it should be a more expensive guitar than it is. Good low action right out of the box with a beautiful sound. This is my 2nd Epiphone acoustic and I'm totally pleased once again. A great guitar for the beginner but more experience musicians will appreciate this guitar too. I can see why the Epiphone DR-100 is always so well rated.

This is a great guitar for the beginner. I liked the one I got for my son so much, I bought another one for myself.
Sound
The sound is surprisingly good for a low end guitar.
Features
No real features, just a basic acoustic.
Ease of Use
Plays good. I had to adjust the neck a bit, but other than that, the action is good. Strings are not the best but that is to be expected.
Quality
Good quality for a beginners guitar.
Value
Great value for the bucks.

"I Don't See How They Can Sell These For $99"

I was reading reviews online about the best budget acoustic out there and one guitar kept popping up everywhere and that was the Epiphone DR-100 so I told myself "you're getting one of these". I go on zzounds and see the limited run dr-100 in wine red with gold hardware and was like "thats it I'm buying it now". First off I wanna talk about zzounds shipping. I got the guitar in 2 days from mississippi to far east kentucky, thats amazing if you ask me. ZZounds is an excellent company to deal with, I emailed them asking about when mine would ship and they responded promptly. I order the guitar on a saturday late night and monday morning it shipped and on wed. when i got off work it was here. The wine red color is amazing. the strings sucks, but!, strings on any new guitar always suck. I'm blown away and do not understand how epiphone can sell these for $99. It is a great acoustic and not just for beginners. I've been playing for years but have a tight budget and wanted a new acoustic that I could play around on . This DR-100 does not disappoint. low action and that was amazing to me for the price. the wine red color and gold hardware look amazing. I can tell you that with a change of strings with elixirs and this thing will be beautiful. I'd recommend this to anyone because its just as good as my fender CD60-CE and that fender was $219. For $99 shipped to your door. yes!!! $99 out the door! you need to buy this now. I will be dealing with ZZounds again in the future. Also! If you get a DR-100 why not get it in wine red! They only made a limited run of these in wine red in 2014 and only certain stores sell in wine red. overall after playing it for 8 hours yesterday im impressed. you tell me another budget guitar u can get for under 100 dollars with mahogany back and side and neck and rosewood fretboard with action this low and stunning looks. ya cant! Buy This Guitar!

Hey this guitar kind of defies gravity, all the hype about solid spruce tops, cedar solid tops, solid mahogany body, it's kind of defied with this guitar that I have. No solid wood top or sides or back on this guitar, but Epiphone has been doing this for a long time, so well made and sounds very close to the same quality of my Martins, Gibsons, and Taylors, buy one for yourself and get one for a friend who's learning to play!

I ordered one for my 12 year old Grandson. It just arrived and I am so happy with it. To buy something like this for someone without seeing it, is risky. The look and the sound are of great quality. Just the way it's packaged you know they care about their product and good name. Thank you zZounds!

This Epiphone has to be THE best value over every other guitar in this price range. Even rivaling other guitars for much more money . I also received a new BBT Taylor the same day. I actually considered returning the Taylor because I could not see the value compared to my Eppy. Trust me.... this Epiphone will not disappoint you!

(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I got my Epiphone dr 100 acoustic thats red wine with gold hardware, I got it mainly because a couple of months ago I got the red epiphone starling and i like it a lot, it came set up good and it’s a pretty guitar, but the thing I really like about these is the gold hardware and the binding, which th starling does not have, so ok I got this and the set up was so bad, the back bow was so bad the strings were touching the neck, I would have sent it back but it is beautiful, and so I set it up, thank god for two way truss rods, I had to adjust it so far that it was kind of scary it got so hard to turn I thought it might break, but I fixed that problem also there was quite a bit of fret sprout so i filed the fret ends, I have been working on my own guitars for 50 years so I know what i'm doing but if you get one and the set up is that bad I would take it somewhere to get it set up, and they are so beautiful I kind of think its worth it and it plays really good now, hopefully mine was just overlooked or something, anyway I do like it, I have a lot of guitars and this is one of the most gorgeous, I kid you not

"GREAT DEAL, wine red color is stunning."

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
This is one stunning guitar, I was worried the red would be too bright, or bold, or, well, red......but it's a beautiful, deep wine.....the pictures don't do it justice. ( Had one small shipping issue, which was quickly figured out with the help of zZounds, and am so happy with this purchase and with their customer service).
Sound
Right out of the box, it was tune and go. Sounds like a much more expensive guitar than it is.
Features
This is probably the best laminated guitar I've come across, Epiphone hit it out of the park with this model.
Ease of Use
No fret issues, nice low action right out of the box, no fret buzz. As soon as I picked it up, the first thing I noticed was how GREAT the neck fit my left hand, FINALLY I found the "perfect fit".
Quality
I found not one flaw or blemish, the fit and finish are incredible, especially in this price range.
Value
I feel this guitar's a great value, priced well.Already tempted to grab another, maybe in black to gift one of the kids or grandkids.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't dealt with Epiphone, but zZounds is the hands down best way to go. You can't beat the fast free shipping, customer service, or payment options.
The Wow Factor
This wine red color drew my interest, and seeing it in person, well, these pictures just don't do it justice. My biggest wow factor was how easily and effortlessly my hand fit the neck, and fretboard, and I knew, finally, I found that perfect fit.

"The body is not mahogany"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I own one of these guitars. It's brighter than more expensive guitars yet still sounds great. Recently I cut into it to install a Fishman knock off pre amp pickup system. What I found the sides were NOT mahogany. It's laminate with the center layer the same material as the binding. The top of the laminate is some sort of plastic, the inside is some sort of wood veneer that doesn't look like mahogany. I love this guitar. It plays well and sounds great but don't lie about how it was made. It's still a great cheap and great sounding instrument.

"Stunning color, nice start to learning"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Yes, the rich burgundy/mahogany/cherrywood color is stunning. And, for a beginner, it makes me even more pleased to play a shiny, good-looking guitar than some dull starter kit's guitar. As expected with the typical guitar made in the Far East, the construction is relatively light and can feel fragile at times; just be careful when hanging it up or putting it in the case.. common sense, right? The strings included are quite good to start with. They've been replaced since, but you can use 'em for at least a month. The overall sound isn't mind-blowing (maybe dull), although it's probably my inexperience. It could just be the strings or the way I'm learning how to play. The action, as expected, is a bit high, so you may need to sand off a millimeter when/if you're replacing the strings. As it is, beginners may start feeling more pain instead of the regular dulling from the development of calluses. All in all, it's a sweet guitar to start playing (again) with. With a new case and gentle care, I hope the shine and the sound lasts a long time.

Bought this guitar to have an extra for the elder gentlemen at the community center. It sure was a hit with them! Guitar arrived in bad shape. Busted strings, massive backbone, super sharp fret edges and quite a few high frets. After a couple of hours I had Lil Red feeling and sounding pretty decent for an overpriced 100 dollar guitar! Once I cleaned up frets and gave it a good set up and new set of exliers I must say I’m impressed. I didn’t think it would sound so good. Great beginner guitar.
