The Vocalist Workstation EX is a nice sounding
harmony processor at what I think is a fair price. The unit has some very useful factory
presets, realistic harmonies, Vibrato and Gender Bender effects, solid reverb and great MIDI control. I think this is a good model to buy if you are looking for smooth harmony and ambiance processing and a T.C. Electronics Voice Prism is out of your price range.

Overall:
I bought this unit and was very excited after I initially got it. It was rather simple to use, contrary to anothers review I found the manual fine. It explained the various harmony types and how they work and which would be best to use for various set-up circumstances. The unit certainly seems flexible for live and studio use. However after just a day and a half of seriously limited use, the unit stopped functioning. The display just defaulted to something like "Unit initializing" and that was it. I unplugged it, turned it off and on a few times, even tried holding various keys while turning on in case one acted as a reset, but nothing worked. I went to the Digitech site and though I found the 'support' area for the unit, it wasn't very helpful. No real information, no real troubleshooting section. The forums don't appear to be monitored, and because I just bought it I didn't want to leave a post and maybe not hear back for a week. And I don't do the call and stay on hold thing. So after less then 3 days with the unit I'm sending it back for a refund. Seems like these either work or they don't, as a few other reviews seemed to have DOA or ones that stopped working right away. The rest seem to be happy. I suppose with any electronics it's a crap shoot. This time I'm gonna be rolling my dice on a TC Helicon harmonizer - hopefully I'll have better luck.

This piece of gear is very fun to play with and I can't wait to get one into my live rig. It really can do some amazing things, and I can't even sing! There are several Harmony types that are especially useful to me, most notably "Eagles" and "Doobies". Also, it's fun to try out various songs with different harmony structures. It tracks well with MIDI and and is extremely easy to use live. The footswitch controller will be a must have for most people, especially for live work, so factor in the added expense. The only negative observation I have is that the XLR plug on the back wasn't installed correctly at the factory, the small screws that hold the jack in place were not tightened and I wasn't able to get the mic cord unplugged. I was able to fix it but it makes me wonder about Digitech's quality control.

No lie...the harmonies sound great on this thing! Be careful
if you are looking for non MIDI though because although it does have some non MIDI applications,
it is about 50% MIDI. The FS 300 footswitch is a must. Once again, great sounding harmonies!
