Digidesign Digi 002 Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
OVERALL I THINK THAT IT IS A MUST FOR HOME STUDIO SETTINGS. I WILL CONTINUE TO USE THIS PRODUCT UNTIL IT DIES, BUT I WILL CHECK OUT THE NEW COMMAND 8.
Quality
PURE PLASTIC, BUT SEEMS VERY DURABLE. COMETICALLY, DIGIDESIGN COULD HAVE SPICED IT UP, BUT I GUESS THAT THEY WERE LOOKING AT QUALITY FIRST.
Value
YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS! YOU CAN DO JUST ABOUT EERYTHING WITH THIS MACHINE. I WOULD HAVE LOVED FOR IT TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE MORE THAN 32 TRACKS, BUT AT THIS POINT I HAVE LEARNED TO GET AROUND WITH 32.
Manufacturer Support
I HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH THE VERSION OF SOFT WARE THAT WAS SENT TO ME, I CALLED SUPPORT AND THE NEW UPDATED SOFTWARE WAS SENT DIRECTLY OVER NIGHT. I WAS SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED.
The Wow Factor
THE FIRST TIME I LEARNED ABOUT IT, I WANTED IT. NOW THAT I HAVE IT, I SAY THAT IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

"No better value for the money. Not one regret. Would do it again."

I need more mic inputs. Although I was fully aware of the limitations, however I believe a customer may unknowingly be led to believe the suggested 18 tracks of simultaneous recording are immediately ready. A few products by Focusrite, Presonus, etc. are available to utilize the ADAT lightpipe capability.
Sound
This is the first "no excuses" - "no rationalization" recording system I have come across for the professional "Home" studio. This product is truly at the point where the technology is held "harmless". The only obstacle to recording perfection lies within.
Features
I would have liked 8 mic pres instead of 4. An outside edge around the upper portion would have made it very convenient to mount the unit INTO a table top. The included plugins are extremely useful.
Quality
I have no reason to believe this product will not hold up well.
Value
The Digi 002 has taken the place of racks of equipment. It sounds better and is far easier to use than the numerous recording formats having passed my way.
Manufacturer Support
I called support regarding a few issues. The response was informed and immediate.

"Great for recording professionals, tech-heads with PC/MAC platform 100% dedicated to Pro-Tools. If this does not describe you,"

Actively looking for a replacement.
Sound
Pristine sound
Features
A zillion and one features. I'm still learning and will probably never use all of them.
Ease of Use
Set-up and operation are not straightforward. I have an Intel-based Mac. Even with software updates, new Firewire drive, etc., many recording sessions postponed because of one software conflict or another. I do not recommend its use with any platform that is not 100% dedicated to Pro Tools. It is the most persnickety piece of software I have ever used in my studio. I cannot be creative AND spend most of my time engineering and problem solving.
Quality
Well made, designed, and elegant.
Value
Expensive, but would have been worth it if it were easy to use... NOT!!! I am looking to sell it.
Manufacturer Support
Looong telephone wait time. Web site is structured well, but did not address my problems.
The Wow Factor
Automated sliders are very cool. I coveted this item for 1 1/2 years before I finally purchased it. Now I'm sorry.

"Why I like my Digidesign 002 ProTools system a lot !!!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I love this system, there is only one remark. You got to have a realy fast PC or Mac to work with 24 tracks and a lot of plugins.A dedicated system to work only with ProTools is the best solution. It supports Intel Core Duo on Mac and PC and they keep innovating.
Sound
Works with focusrite pre-amps for perfect sound up to 96 kHz.
Features
Automation for total recal on woking projects and super plugins.
Ease of Use
Pro-Tools is not for dummies who want to do everything without learning. It is the industry standard for recording studio's all over the world. So you got to get into it and once you have the taste of the software you get adicted.
Quality
It looks nice works nice and easy to take on a recording session outdoor.
Value
It's an expensive system but if you look at what you get for your money it's is worth saving for.
Manufacturer Support
Very good support in the Netherlands, friendly and they have the knowledge to help you with any problem, if you have one.
The Wow Factor
I own it for 2 years and still think it's the best. I wouldn't trade it for another. (only for a Protools HD-system of course)

"Good price good product."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I'm very happy with the 002, but I would like to have the talk back feature for vocal booths that the Control 8 has.
Sound
The sound is crisp and clear. Sounds as good as the big boys
Features
All the features any one would need. Thousands $$ worth of plugins included.
Quality
I used my 002 almost everyady in my home studio for 3 years now and its very sturdy, nothing broke yet.
Value
Theres nothing on the market that can compete.
Manufacturer Support
Great support, they ship next day and are very knowledgable.
The Wow Factor
I wanted it when I first read about it and it still has that appeal to it after having it for three year. Its the heart of my studio.

Features

Quality
THE BEST JUST DONT BE CARELESS WITH IT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO ABUSE YOUR EQUIPMENT ANYWAY.
Value
IF I HAD THIS TO OWN I'LL MAKE SURE IT STAYS IN MY STUDIO FOR LIFE.

"Amazing studio all in one. Can't beat it for the price and features."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I will have this board for quite a few years to come.
Sound
Has focusrite pre's and some GREAT sounding converters. Really sounds great and I have used my share of recording equipment.
Features
SOOO many features. For goodness sakes it is the industry standard Pro Tools.
Quality
Very solid. It sits in my studio and probably will never move.
Value
Alittle expensive. I bought it for $1850 used and seriously, it is worth every damn penny.
The Wow Factor
Such great appeal. Such endless limits with Pro Tools. Now you can control it, record, use midi, and endless effects all from one unit. HOw much more could you want out of a recording studio for your house?
