I break them every now and then when I am trying to take out a piece of gear in the middle of the rack

It isolates your gear so you don't have to worry about ground loops from your stuff. I work for a live sound reinforcement company. Our clients may have ground loops, but our gear never does and never will! Every unit we have is hooked in with humfrees!
