"Size Matters"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The head is for fantasizing about being a lead guitar player, which I'm not, and it serves that purpose well. I'm looking for a reasonably priced cab for it. I would buy another if stolen because it is a great value, and great to have around for kicks.
Sound
Loud; the EQ dials provide good broad range of tones. Overdrive channel is OK, but not quite gutsy enough. Run a pedal in front of it. It compared quite favorably, head-to-head, against my buddy's '80's JCM 800 through his Marshall 4x12 cab.
Features
You need the optional 3-button footswitch to fully exploit the channel-switching & boost capabilities. On-board spring reverb works fine. Boost/presence button will indeed rip your face off. Switchable watt-setting allows crunch at lower volume, very useful. Why the fan? How about a protective vinyl cover for transport & storage?
Ease of Use
Although the manual is excellent, and the controls are easy to understand and use, the issue here is the head's 30" length: it is wider than most newer 4x12 cabs, and in fact, wider than most cabs period. It is, in a word, gigantic. I'm a bass-player, and bought this head to screw around with my PRS SE Custom 6-string. The head is running through a Crate 300W ported 2x15 bass cab (laid on its side, which is the only way the head fits on it) while I search for a properly sized and voiced 2x12 or 4x12 guitar cab. (I'm not impressed with the head's companion Crate 4x12 cabs, which I heard but did not buy.)
Quality
The first one I bought had a dead clean channel level control. Returned for an exchange unit, which was perfectly turned out. Fit & finish are excellent. Hardware looks stout. Styling is neutral and works with pretty much any cab. I've taken it to practice, and it is so big it definitely needs a cover. I predict it will get beat to hell in transport.
Value
Absolutely, pound-for-pound the best buy on the market. Do the research: 100 watts of pure tube power for this amp's selling price is unprecedented.
Manufacturer Support
No experience, but the retailer's response to the non-functional level control was immediate and satisfactory.
The Wow Factor
Its a great piece of kit. It has big sound, serious power. Asthetically pleasing and neutral, not wierded-out. I only hope that some day I find a cab wide enough to perch the head on without overlapping 2 inches on each side. Did I mention this head is HUGE?

"It's Nice To Finally Having It Home !!!"

Barring any other breakdowns in the naer future, I really don't intend on purchasing another Lead Amp again,,,,, Ever!
Sound
I'm currently running the head through one of my old monitors, w/ a 15" Altec speaker, and two Black Widow 10's. This is my current situation til I decide wich cabinets to go with. Since I'm 60 yrs. young w/a bad back, I'm actually leaning towards getting two of the Crate 2x12 cabinets. They would fit my needs quite well I think.
Features
It would have been nice if a 3-switch box was included w/ the amp for running the channels and effects. Fortunately, I had enough switches hanging around to handle the problem.
Ease of Use
Pretty much reminds me of my old Ampeg...w/ more cool stuff.
Quality
Sorry, but I have to slam that one. I originally ordered the amp about Nov. 14th, 2008. I received the amp about a week later. Plugged it in and got ready to rock, only to my dismay to find I had no sound NaDa!!! Took it to my local Crate Tech to find out the whole high voltage board was shot. You Know,... I could have sworn Crates advertising stated that they hand tested each amp before letting it leave the factory. What's up With That ????
Value
For what tou get (assuming it works) against what you paid, there is no greater deal on planet Earth. Got it?, Get it
Manufacturer Support
It took from Nov. 22nd, 2008, until Feb. 1st, 2009 to get my amp back
The Wow Factor
I thought this amp looked pretty freakin cool from the photos they showed on zZounds. There's no comparison to actually seeing this puppy in front of you.

Best tube head on the market for under 500!
Sound
This is a GREAT blues amp! The clean channel has gobs of headroom and the overdrive channel is meaty, but muddy. I definitely recommend replacing the preamp tubes with high gain ones(it's got 12axwa's in it). With a TubeKing in front of the clean channel you've got a great sounding heavy metal amp with more volume than you'll ever need.
Features
The 50/100 watt switch if a VERY nice feature if you have to play at home. The EQ is simple and very responsive.
Quality
This thing is built like a tank!
Value
Best bang for your buck on the market!
Manufacturer Support
Custome service was very helpful in finding the bias points on the circuit board.

overall, great amp. if you are short on cash get one before they are gone.
Sound
The sound is outstanding. I always wanted a tube amp but the price was always to high. this thing sounds great. clean is good and overdrive is good for that early rock sound. love it.
Features
Has exactly what i needed in an amp. the power switch is awsome for just jamming in the house.
Ease of Use
its an amp. its easy if you know what kind of sound you want.
Quality
I bought a b-stock but it was great. you can not even tell it has a scratch. built heavy and feels like it should last a lifetime.
Value
I paid $259. best value for my money.
Manufacturer Support
havent needed it yet.

I WOULD REPLACE THIS QUICKLY .
Sound
EQ it carefully with your effects bank .
Features
i did not need accessories because i ran effecys from a Vox Tonelab .
Ease of Use
Run a Vox tone lab straight in and do not follow directions for effects processor as described in the booklet . If you do you will lose power because the 12AX7 tubes are bypassed . The power tubes need them to sound great .
Quality
very well made/
Manufacturer Support
OK .
The Wow Factor
VERY GOOD.

"Crate V100H"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Well, I got new tube in her now (thanks to crate) and she seems happy. I'll be satisfied as long as shes in working order.
Sound
I play blues and not much else, so I love the presence you can get out of this monster at just about any volume. With the spring reverb at noon through the overdriven channel it's hard to keep track of the time.
Features
Not too many features to this amp in the way of effects and so on. She's a great platform for pedals if you wanna go crazy, but with a straight set of tone adjustment and classic spring reverb through tubes you should be able to find the tone your looking for without too much trouble.
Ease of Use
I can't think of anything I've owned, used or messed with that was quite as easy. She's got a straight up set of tone controls, two channels and two wattage setting, no wierd or fancy controls to speak of.
Quality
Unfortunately, I have to stop the praise here. I had owned mine for three months - never turned it to eleven - when two el34s lost vacuume pressure and took out a few bits on the board. Crate stood behind their product though, even after the 90 day warrenty was expired and the place I bought it from told me to pound sand.
Value
If mine hadn't exploded this would no doubt be a ten. If you want this amp put better tubes in her straightly.
Manufacturer Support
Customer service for crate is based in Seattle, even though all their manufacturing is no longer in the states. These guys are extremely helpful, since I can't imagine theres much to do up there. I talked to a guy by the name of Mike when mine blew up and he gave me some inside warrenty info, pointed me toward a repair shop and worked with the guy at the shop to get me back in business.
The Wow Factor
The styling on this amps is modern classic in the extreme, I love it.
