"Crate g412sl"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
his is a nice cabinet,,I am a bit confused,,the CRATE website states that the cabinet features an ohm selection switch,,,MINE does NOT !!! This I a disappointment,, I had to rewire the speakers to a 4 ohm rating,,not a difficult project, but he convenience of the switch was a definite selling point,, the cabinet itself sounds very nice,, the highsare crisp and clean ,,the lows are tight and thumpy,, with mids that work perfectly for my style of playing,,, I found the wire to the speakers to be a bit thin and wispy,, I replaced them with a thicker gauge wire,, the speakers seamed to be of reasonable quality,, I think you get a good bang for your buck with them. the cabinets construction is decent,, the tolex type covering is soft and prone to scratches and tears,, the plastic corners could have been sturdier,, and of course,, no birch plywood here,, not a super high quality cabinet, but good construction, and decent material... the greatest downfall that I see to this cab is the placement of the casters,, the distance between the casters front to back, and creates a tipping and falling hazard,, the casters must be removed after moving the cabinet,,and I strongly recommend that the cabinet is not rested on a carpeted floor without removing the casters.. the g412sl is a decent cabinet at a reasonable price,, however would not hold up very well under heavy road use.. this cabinet isbest suited for the weekend player or the home studio or practice room,,Not a piece of junk by any means,,but not a professional or road worthy cabinet either

From the reviews I read that caused me to purchase this cab you'd think that they were talking about a different product. the db level in the speakers that came with my cab are so low that my Line 6 HD head is not putting out 1/4 the sound and tone I get when using an old 2x12 fender cab that I have had to use until I replace the Crate. If you are a new to guitar and have a low budget- you might give it a try -or just wait and save up for a better cab.
Sound
This cab just doesn;t allow the amp to push the speakers or maybe the speakers themselves are set at such a low db level that there is no efficiency. Ive tweaked and tweaked to adjust for tone and I still get a tinny/no punch tone- At first I thought my Line 6 HD head was screwed up, but then I plugged in one side(150watts) to a 2x12 cab that was laying around and realized the difference - for one the ohms were 4 where the crate is 8 and cuts your amp power down.
Features
Not a bad looking cab- comes with 4 casters you can pop in if you want to use- solid cab- cheap speakers. good for musicians starting out that want a cab and Head set up- not for experienced gigging musicians though.
Quality
Clean and well put together- inner parts though are competing to keep the price dow- it is true you get what you pay for.
Value
I haven't tried other 4x12s in thhe same price range and I probably never will- Iv'e learned my lesson- i will not be so frugal when searching for great tone next time.
Manufacturer Support
never had to del with em.
The Wow Factor
Even though it looks good- it did not give me any volume or tone- playing live the other musicians could not even hear me and I was using a 150 watt head and had the dial at 8(no lie) the speakers just arent very good. The other musicians were at a normal volume level. when I plugged into a 4 ohm 2x12 cab that was sitiing there -i immediately had to lower my volume knob to 5 and i was equal in volume and actually had a crunchy tone. all the proof i needed.
