Overall: Workhorse I own this amp about 6 years as a practice amp and use it sometimes for gigs. It’s very trusty workhorse amp that can, lightweight and sound quite good. It is practice amp rather than amp for gig since there’s no footswitch to toggle between clean and drive channels. And it’s really sad, because clean channel is awesome, and you won’t get same sweet low-gain tone by rolling back guitar’s volume knob using your drive channel. Solution is to place a pedal in front of the amp. I have to admit that the amp’s clean channel works extremely well with pedals. As I mentioned before, clean channel is the strongest side of the amp. You can get very lush sound if you’ll crank the clean’s volume high, you’ll get nice amount of grit thrown in, and so you can go from clean to break up to nice crunch simply using your picking dynamics. The saddest point you can’t get this gorgeous break-up at low volume, so forget about it if you want to get that sweet spot at bedroom sound level. To my taste the best set up for clean tones is when you have the volume about noon, plus chorus and delay pedals in front of it with some reverb added. A few words about the voicing of the amp: it’s more so British-voiced amp, and it works best with cracked-up midrange. Amp shares EQ for drive and clean channels, so you have to dial in average setting that will work both with clean and distorted sounds. Built-in reverb will became a bit too sensitive after few years, so be careful with the bass settings since you can get very boomy sound. Probably the only one serious upgrade you'll need for this amp is to swap the power-cord and the speaker with their better analogs. Weber Signature Alnico will work the best for speaker swap. If you want very affordable, lightweight combo, that can stand beer shower and will sound almost perfect do not look elsewhere but FlexWave. Try its clean channel, and you’ll fall in in love with this baby-monster. Definitely check it out!

Sound: The Clean Channel is great and the overdrive isnt bad but it is a little muffled Feature: i wish it was able to be foot switcheable between the channels but overall the features are good the reverb starts making noises that wont go away until you turn it off but other than that the features are great. Ease of Use: it is very easy there is alot of play in the gain and the bass and high and mid are really adjustable you can really hear them change. Quality: The amp is very sturdy i can stand on it throw it anything and nothing happens only bad thing is that the knobs can be pulled off pretty easy. Value: the price is unbeatable it is a great little practice amp and it soudns great with pedal's and effects ran through it. Manufacturer Support: Never had to deal with crate ive never had any problems with the amp. The Wow Factor: it looks great the silver and black just stand out and the vynill on the outside is prettty cut resistent. Overall: ive had it for a year i give it a nin becuase its not loud enough 15 watts is good for a keep quite dont have your mom yelling at you.but its still loud to enough that you can get people out of ur room. Stop reading this and go buy it already.

Overall: I had the GTD15R, which, as mentioned elsewhere, is the same amp but with a black face. The volume and tone are incredible. Mine had spring reverb, and I assume this one does also, but there's no mention. If you've never had a 15 watt amp, don't worry. The 12" speaker makes it sound like 30 watts. If it had footswitchable channels and footswitchable reverb (I'm a dreamer), it could make you forget how to even spell Fender.

Sound: Sounds great. Gets good overdrive on the distortion channel, no buzz or hissing. Only reason it gets an 8 is overall volume. Feature: Great EQ, overdrive channel rocks. Love the mp3 in. Ease of Use: Simple, to the point. 5 minutes and you're playing. Quality: Owned it 4 months, no problems yet. Value: For a practice amp this CAN'T BE BEAT. Manufacturer Support: Great packaging, havent had to use support yet though. The Wow Factor: It's a practice amp pretty much. You won't be dragging this to your girlfriend's house to show off. Overall: Easy to use, good distortion, bright and clean when not distorted.

"Great amp for practice or live use." submitted January 8, 2009

Sound: I don't actually own this exact amp but what I do have is the GTD15R, which was discontinued when this amp was released. Comparing the two, they are identical in every way except their outer appearance. Feature: I agree a footswitch would be nice to change between the channels but you can eliminate that by using external pedal effects/processors. Digitech and Zoom make nice digital processors in a range of prices/complexities. I am using a Digitech RP80 processor with this amp and it sounds great whether its clean, distorted, or any other combo of effects you can imagine. I do, however use a little of the amps built-in reverb to sweeten up the sound of the other effects. Ease of Use: Really easy. Turn the knobs until you like how it sounds and play. Quality: This amp seems very sturdily built and is my first (and certainly not my last) Crate amp I have purchased and I am very happy with the overall quality. I also like the open back design of the GTD15R versus this amp because its a convenient place to store an extension cord when you are traveling to and from shows. Value: GREAT VALUE!!! I have never heard a 15 watt amp produce this much volume and still sound good. Thank you to Crate for their nice speakers and the 12 inch size was an awesome choice for this amp. Manufacturer Support: no problems with the amp so I haven't had to contact support. Also, the 3 year warranty gives me a little piece of mind as I've owned it a year already with absolutely no issues. Overall: I will be satisfied with this amp for some time to come. In fact, I'm considering purchasing a second and using both simultaneously for a richer sound.
