Feature:
Comes with a great basket, not a cheapo MXR type. Includes power supply, spy case (sans handcuffs) and a 30' cable. Power supply has nice bright power lights on each side which is a serious plus.
Quality:
Like most condensers, I wouldn't dare taking this on the road, but the construction is solid, all metal and I don't hesitate using it in the studio. Again, if you don't want to break it, buy a nice stand.
Value:
This is worth every penny. But I'm a big believer in the power of the witch and not the wand. This is not a holy grail product that will make hits for you. It is a paintbrush. And a friggin fantastic one that I reach for consistently, but it is still the artist that makes the difference, knowing how to use it.
Desirability:
Other than being a blatant visual rip off of the Blue Bottle, it is still a beautiful product with a gorgeous sound.
Sound:
Gritty yet smooth, just the right amount of stubble. Compresses when you expect it to (keep it from loud instruments - this is really a vocal mic), picks up EVERYTHING including clothes rustling, every breath, etc (can be good or bad). Low noise for a tube mic. It sounds like a AKG 414 with some peach fuzz. One of the few mics I EQ very sparingly, depending upon the vocalist and what frequencies stick out at me, but usually a small 1db bump around 200Hz and I've done sessions where no EQ goes on this baby (which is pretty unheard of for me).
Ease of Use:
Let her warm up for about an hour for best, most consistent results. Basket shockmount tightens up properly and doesn't sag, but the mic is seriously heavy. Be CAREFUL mounting it on a crappy tripod mic stand.
Support:
Emailed them once and never got a reply. But at least it wasn't support related.
Overall:
Sound is great, although very specialized. CAD needs to innovate in their visual look and not copy someone else, which is sad because the sound quality is one of the biggest bargins in the industry.
