Bugera TRIREC Infinium Guitar Amplifier Head (100 Watts)

Thanks to the TRIREC's Varipower function, you can get the brilliant sound of saturated power valves without having to crank your amp's volume to full blast.

"Bugera TriRec lives up to the hype"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I had been reading and watching web videos about this amp since 2010 and thought it would never actually be released. But when they finally became available around 8/13 I was first to order one. I have to say that is amp actually lives up to all the hype that surrounded it prior to its release. Straight out of the box this thing kicks major buttox. That unique mesa-like distortion tone is unmistakably there on channels 2 & 3. By far my favorite feature of this amp is the "Varipower" knob that adjust the power tubes output from the full 100+ watts down to about 5 watts. I prefer to keep the knob around what I approximate to be 25 watts in my home studio. This way you get some power tube distortion but still have enough power to let the full bass response of the amp come through. All of the eleven tubes in the amp are Chinese made and are all of high quality. This includes 5 12AX7s, 4 6L6GCs, and the 2 big 5U4 rectifier tubes. I usually like to play with the tone by switching out both preamp and power tubes. But with this amp it sounds so good out of the box I have no desire to do that, at least for now. I really love the sound of this amp for heavy palm muted rhythm guitar riffs. It has that wicked mesa-like voicing in the lower midrange I don't get with any of my other amps. The build quality is good for a Chinese made amp. I have had no issues with it in the few months I've had it and don't anticipate any. But I feel good knowing that it does include a 3 year warranty from Bugera. The tolex that covers the amp is thick with a nice grain pattern and a real leather handle. The amp is also has very low hiss even at high distortion levels which is great for players that don't use a noise gate. I own several other 100 watt guitar amp heads. Some that cost 3 times what this amp cost, but this has become my favorite and main amp. I am actually looking to sell off a few of those other amps because this amp can do what they do and more. Thanks to the Modern, Classic, Vintage switches on the 2 dirty channels I can get most any distortion tone required. This amp is everything I expected it to be and I'm very satisfied with the purchase of this amp.

Just bought this amp and after buying new cords (amp to cabinet, pedal board, etc.) this amp is a BEAST! I sold my Mesa (mini rectifier) to buy something I could play out with and this amp is MORE than enough. The mesa had a lot of hum everytime I kicked on the gain channel, but not so with the Bugera Trirec. We all know cords are important and GOOD cords are a MUST with this amp, but you don't have to pay hundreds for new cords, just buy a set of good quality cords (and jumper for your pedal board) and you will LOVE THIS AMP! I play a lot of different types of music and haven't found one yet this amp can't handle. Now I haven't had it long, but so far, I'm a very happy camper. And the folks at zZounds have been VERY helpful (call and ask for Matt, he was excellent!). Bottom line is I would definitely recommend Zzounds and the Bugera Trirec Infinium. Thanks Zzounds! I'll be back!

Simply put there is not a better value on the market today. Beginner to Pro this amp will deliver a pallet of sounds that typically do not coincide with this price point.I play Hard Rock with various Metal dynamics and this amp delivers. The ability to combine tubes at random has lead me down the road to sonic paradise. I have used a Mesa Dual Rec for years as my go to head....I have sold it. Previously reported Bugera quality issues appear to have been addressed, I find no signs of obvious flaws, and have been gigging with this guy for about two months now. If your thinking about purchasing, stop and just do it, you will have no regrets.

"Ok... this is the best tube amp I have played... dare I say.. better than the Mesa Boogie it was modeled to?"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I had a tri-rectifier Mesa Boogie and this one is so much more diverse. I have way more control at the guitar for tone than I have had with most tube amps. I can go from glassy clean to mush mouth metal at a flick of my volume knob on my guitar. A very responsive and capable amplifier.

"Trirec, the good and the bad"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars

So I scored my Trirec to have @ my GF's place so I'd have an amp that sounded similar to my Mesa Boogie Road King II there but I didn't feel like coughing up the $2,800 new or $1,400 used price; for less than the used price for a new Mesa it is a good deal.
Sound
The tones produced from the 3 channels are great!
Features
Every knob is reactive, they all impart a change to your tone and often a little tweak is all that you need. About the least responsive knob was the reverb knob. The boost knob is just a volume boost, like on my RKII, and doesn't add any add'l gain.
Ease of Use
Within 5 mins you will have awesome tones.
Quality
You've read the good, now the bad. My Trirec didn't last 20 hours. The gain channels suddenly dropped in volume and had a thin/tinny tone. Blown tube right? WRONG. Replaced every tube and the amp wasn't fixed. Volume on the clean channel was full and strong, but the 2 gain channels were about half the volume and then completely cut out. When I followed the manufacturer's instructions to contact zZounds first, honestly there was a bit of push back from zZounds. They really just wanted nothing to do with me at first I inferred from their email messages. In the end I ended up returning the amp to zZounds for a replacement (going to give Bugera one more chance as my Bugera 333XL, which was also purchased so I'd have a XXX clone @ my GF's place, is a trouper). Now as for the return, zZounds has my money now but I don't have an amp as the Trirec is not in stock and apparently they have no clout/pull/influence with Bugera to make good on the defective amp.
Value
The price on zZounds or the price on Musician's Friend? The $1,000 price on zZounds I wouldn't pay even if the amp didn't fail. You can get Peavey 3120 that gives the same quality tones and far better build quality. You can get a EVH 5150 III 50 for the same price (which I also have and sounds stellar despite it shared control handicap). You can get a Laney Ironheart 60 for less that will give you tones that won't leave you wishing you had a different amp. Now the price matched amount that I got from zZounds beating the Musician's Friend price? Yes. At that price the amp is more in line with its reality -- a Chinese made Mesa Boogie knock off. If it had worked I mean. At that price, which was less than even the Laney Ironheart 60's price the amp is a GREAT value. If it works.
Manufacturer Support
When attempting to reach Bugera (prior to returning the amp) I left 2 voice mail, 3 email to customer support and 2 email messages directly to their VP of USA marketing. I only got a reply 2 weeks after the last messages were sent and the amp was already returned to zZounds at that point.
The Wow Factor
There are two WOW factors. First the quality of tones for the money were amazing! Easily stacked up against my Road King II in the gain channels. The clean channel(s) on the RKII are w/o equal, so there is NO way the Trirec could hope to compare to my RKII> Second the lack of longevity. I had promised myself that I wasn't going to get the first generation Bugera after the problems they had with their 6200 and the 333 series, but like a fool I rushed in as I hoped that their quality control had improved. Doesn't seem to have yet, I'll post a second review when my replacement comes... If it ever does.

Like I said, it was good for about 5 hours of play then, it died. Sound was OK, but not as good as all those you tube vids make it look. Zzounds, so far have been helpful with the return, although I have just started the process. If it goes bad, I'll include that. There is a similar review on here were it dies on that person as well. Its a low price for a reason I guess.

Bought this amp new because of the features, sound quality, and value. Zzounds was awesome shipping the product fast as usual. Got the amp, plugged it in, hooked up a cabinet, set volumes to minimum, and turned the power switch on. " Whats that sound? Something burning?" After a few minutes I plugged in a guitar and turned on the standby switch. Light showed on for a few seconds and then went out. I was not able to get the amp to produce any sounds out the speakers. Everything else seemed to be working. Tried all setting including the rectifier switch on the back. Amp DOA! I own several tube amps and am thoroughly educated on how to use them. Can't believe this particular amp wouldn't even powerup. I have purchased Behringer products in the past and had no issues, but this new Bugera line with the Infinium circuit I can not recommend. Amp going back for refund. I will purchase something else (not Bugera).
