Had tried a few different Mandolins all around the same price range as the Breedlove FF. Each one was worse than the next. Poor finishing, overspray, poor machine heads, uneven bindings etc. all these similarly priced Mandolins are made in China, and I would wager the body's are all from the same factory, supplying the different manufacturers. I had expected the intonation to be off and it needing a proper set up, but these were atrocious. I could not find a lot of reviews for the Breedlove, but I liked the fact the body was different from all the others in the "F" style, meaning to me, it was not coming from the same supply factory in China. I gave it chance. Right away, I could see this instrument was in a different class. Not a flaw to be found, even finish, attention to detail, nothing felt cheap. Machine heads solid function with no creaking, great fret work, I was impressed Breedlove touts that it is set up by hand in their US factory after being assembled in China. I believe this to be fact as it was very playable. String hight was a very respectable at 1st and 12th fret, bridge contact was perfect with no gaps and was the most playable out of the box as I have seen. Even had EXP strings! Intonation was damn close. Really surprised to say the least. Of course I made it even more playable, but it required very little nut and bridge work. Sounds great, not a monster chop, but a good even tone, a little on the warmer side, but is opening up the more I play it. Respectable gig bag included. Mandolins are very labor intensive to produce, and most at this price point are junk. I can firmly recommend the Breedlove FF Mandolin. It is in a different class from the others in this price range. I never take the time to write these reviews, but there is not a lot about the Breedlove, and it deserves to be at the head of the class.

I've never played the Mandolin before so when decided to pick it up l went through a lot of them trying to find the right one for me. When I pulled the Breedlove crossover FF out the box, tuned up and went though a few chords and scales I was amazed at the beautiful warm sound, the incredible playability(not to mention the beautiful look and finish). Folks if you are looking for a great sounding very well made, with fantastic action Mandolin look no further. The Breedlove crossover FF is the Mandolin that plays, sounds like a million, without the sticker shock.
