Boss ME-50 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal

The ME-50 Guitar Multiple Effects is a floor-based multi-effects processor built with the ruggedness and simplicity of a stompbox. Designed to work with your amplifier, the ME-50 focuses on killer multi-effects (like COSM overdrive and distortion) rather than amp modeling. And dialing in your tone is easy, thanks to dedicated knobs for each effect section, three footswitches and a built-in expression pedal. So if you want great-sounding effects without all the menu surfing, the ME-50 is everything you need. Learn More...

Feature:
For the next model, if you could combine sounds within patches f.i. creating a sound with chorus/tremolo etc..

Quality:
It's made for heavy duty !!

Value:
If you want to buy all the sounds within this machne in seperate boxes I'am sure this is less expensife

Desirability:
It has a good appearence, and for me the choice of a blue background with white characters is a very good one for using it in place's where there is not much light

Sound:
I like the sounds of the chorus/flanger etc.., I am not a fan of distortion/metal and other heavey sounds, I use them but not too much. In overall the sounds look pretty good to me.

Ease of Use:
How easy can it be ??

Support:
no comment, no problems so far

Overall:
As i can see it now it will be satisfing for al time My excuses for any mistakes ( I'am from the Netherlands )

Feature:
3 Stomp boxes and fully customizable... best feature by far... Has full expression Wah, sounds like classic crybaby...

Quality:
Very high quality... i stomp on the pedal all the time playing on stage... throw it around...(not really recommended) very sturdy metal contruction...

Value:
Add up the different stomp boxes and you will see why its a great value... i paid much higher then what it sells for now

Desirability:
Very sexy piece of equiptment... sexy blue... yes plz :)

Sound:
The sound quality is amazing, from the flange to the phaser to the distortion... just great.

Ease of Use:
Very easy to use, even has patches that can be tweaked... play it in and play for hours...

Support:
Never really had a problem with it... gave it a ten so as to not drop the rating...

Overall:
The best pedal!! I will never really have to buy another pedal. I've owned many different pedals, Old and new alike. I have a cry baby is use also and just use the BE50 as a volume pedal. I played it at the shop I knew I must have this pedal for hours of playing and practicing and the pain free design of playing on stage. Definitely worth more then its price. Fits well in a duffel bag with matching AC adapter... picked mine up cheap $10...

Feature:
Needs to have the power supply delivered with the product. Needs bank switching capability without having to purchase "optional" equipment. That said, it is still a good processor. You will have to waste one of the three selections in each bank if you want to keep a clean setting in each bank plus two additional effects. Extra work, but I did it and it doesn't affect your ability to play sets, you just have to keep up with where you store your pre-sets

Quality:
This is the one thing I own that lived up to the hype. I bought a tank!

Value:
finally found a product that is worth what I paid for it. I would buy another one in a heart beat

Desirability:
Besides being a good product, it looks cool.

Sound:
I gave the sound a 10 because you can customize any sound to your specific requirements. There is no reason why you can't find exactly what sound/tone you are looking for. Between the Boss ME-50, your guitar, and your amp, the sound combinations are nearly infinite

Ease of Use:
Very easy to learn. Tedious once you start using it. Seems like it takes forever to get the sound you want, but once you find it, the time was worth it. Don't let anyone tell you this thing sucks. They probably weren't patient enough to give it a chance to shine.

Support:
Gave it a 10 because I have owned the ME-50 for a year now with no problems

Overall:
This is my second review of the Boss ME-50. I have owned mine now for a year or so, and still find myself amazed at the versatility of this thing. It takes some patience to sit and tweak your sound, but you are rewarded every time. I play a Les Paul and a Fender Strat, and the ME-50 lets me customize my sound to the guitar I am playing at the time. I set my banks up by guitar/song and it is amazing. That is why I am writing a second review. The Boss ME-50 is a good product. It is versatile, easy to use (tedious but easy), and lets you find the sound that is right for you. A stomp box doesn't give you that flexibility.

Feature:
You need to spend $70 for a dual footpedal and power cord for it, but onboard features are plentiful.

Quality:
Very rugged, like all boss pedals. I like the heft it has; it stays in place very well when stomped.

Value:
This pedal does not skimp on features or quality yet manages to stay at the entry level price for it's class... Impressive, even considering the lack of power supply and bank changing footswitches.

Desirability:
Looks and works just like I would want it to. If mine broke I would buy another one immediately.

Sound:
For a modeling pedal, the sound is superb.

Ease of Use:
This is the most intuitive board in it's class, hands down.

Support:
I have no idea as I got the pedal used.

Overall:
I don't see any reason that I would switch to another pedal from this one. I get great sound for live performance and studio work. It DOES have a direct output for recording (someone said it didn't). It's intuitive, but there are several features you need to read the manual to discover, like the way it automatically rearranges the signal chain for best sound based on what effects you have active, to name one at random. This is a powerful pedal that I wouldn't want to play guitar without.

Feature:
The layout and features are really nice, that's why I bought one even beore I'd heard it.

Quality:
It's very well made.

Desirability:
I wanted it until I actually bought it and played through it.

Sound:
Just playing my old Epiphone hollowbody through it, plugged into my Fender Twin, even with nothing but a teeny little bit of compression, makes the guitar sound sound "plinky" and unpleasant. The overdrives are all totally unuseable for me (except for the extremely rare times I'd want a super-extreme ridiculous distortion, which it does well.) I can see how they would be useful for someone who likes using tons of distortion, but they are poor for slight overdrive. I'd been rehearsing with just a Boss SE-70, using a touch of compression and some occasional delay/overdrive, and it sounds a billion times to me than the SE-50. When I got the SE-50 and plugged it in, I kept switching back and forth between the SE-50 and SE-70, hoping my ears had decieved me but they hadn't.

Ease of Use:
Seems ok in this regard.

Overall:
Definitely not for me. My mistake for buying something whithout having actually tried it first.

Feature:
The knobs make it very quick and easy to tweak in live situations. But with only 30 saveable banks, and no single bypass switch, forcing you to save clean banks, it can bite you. The knobs move when you carry it, only natural, and they're fairly sensitive, so a small move can make a huge difference, especially if it's volume or gain. You need two more expensive switches to get any use out of it (I built my own with Radio Shack parts at 1/5 the price) and no AC Adaptor??? Haggle is all I have to say about that.

Quality:
Solid as a rock. I treat it pretty rough, gigging and hauling to practice, keeping it in the trunk, etc and it's still like new.

Value:
If you want a solid pedal that's easier than a collage of pedals, and doesn't color the amp's natural sound unless you want it to, 10. Other than that, there's much better sounding pedals on the market with way more features at a better price.

Desirability:
Easy and reliable to transport, and the blue, and the pedal, it does look cool.

Sound:
I've played it through many amps, tube and solid state, Marshall, Peavey, Fender, and it takes a ton of tweaking to get it to not sound tinny no matter the amp. And since the controls are knobs, good luck keeping those settings without eating up a bank if you carry it gig to gig. But, through the effects loop of my Marshall it is the only pedal I have tried that doesn't color the sound of the amp when all effects are off. It's the only reason I didn't give it a 4.

Ease of Use:
Again, the double edged sword of the easy knobs that are too sensitive.

Overall:
The most important thing to me is not coloring my amp's natural sound and durability, and this pedal delivers that better than any other. That's all it delivers better than any other; it falls short of most other pedals in every other way.

Feature:
You can store and recall 3 effects from each bank which is good, but you have to manually switch banks (footswitch sold separately) beyond that. It would be nice if Boss would have included the ability (feature) to switch banks without having to buy additional pedals.

Quality:
Well made. No surprise here. It is a Boss

Value:
I love the efects and the sound the Boss offers; it is worth every penny. But for what I paid for it the least Boss could do is throw in a power supply...You wouldn't buy a television and expect to buy the power cord separately.

Desirability:
I wanted it from the first time I saw it. I personally like the sound over the Digitech and Line 6, and the thing looks great at my feet. It has been a blast so far!

Sound:
I am coming from the Digitech RP-50 to the ME-50, and the sound quality of the Boss is superb. I never knew what I was missing!

Ease of Use:
At first, the boss appears complicated, but after 10 minutes you are on your way. Very easy to use.

Support:
No support used

Overall:
The Boss ME-50 has met or exceeded all of my expectations for sound quality, ease of use, and sound. I upgraded from the Digitech, and can honestly say there is no comparison between the two. Don't get me wrong, the Digitech is okay if you are a beginner and learning what effects are all about without breaking the bank, but if you are looking for a PURE guitar sound, spend the money. This thing is for real!!!

Feature:
This pedal comes with everything. you have a Volume/Wah. A compressor, sustain, distortion, bunch of mod effects(chorus, flange, univibe, phaser) and it even has amp effects and guitar effects, (acoustic, humbucker, ect.) and a delay. Its Great!!!

Quality:
Its Boss What else do i have to say?

Value:
Worth every Penny

Desirability:
I am very sad that i gave it away to my girlfriend. I have moved on to individual effects and wish i still had it. An Amazing Effect.

Sound:
This is one of the best starter pedals out there, dont waste your time with the digitech pedals even though they are much cheaper you get the sounds you pay for. After owning a digitech multieffect pedal and then this the product is worth every penny.

Ease of Use:
Very Very Very Easy.

Overall:
I gave it away unwillingly. i do not wish i had done it but its too late now.

Feature:
You can achieve just about any guitar sound immaginable with this sucker. With 22 distortion/overdrive effects, 11 modulation effects, and 11 delay effects, this is everything I expected it to be and more. Everything is customizable too.

Quality:
Like a tank. Made with a metal bodie and sturdy plastic knobs. Plastic pedals. Had it for years and still works great.

Value:
Sure, a little pricy, but all effects pedals like this are. You won't find a better value anywhere I've looked.

Desirability:
Looks great, works great, sounds great. As soon as I saw it I wanted it. Knowing what I know about it now, if I didn't haven't I would want it even more.

Sound:
Great. Comes out just how you want it. With a little experimentation can create just about any sound imaginable.

Ease of Use:
I don't have tons experience with this kind of stuff (our drummer usually does all of the studio stuff) but it was extremely easy to use. I didn't even have to use the instruction manual. My 9 year old sister could figure this out in heartbeat.

Support:
Haven't had to call about this product yet but support has been great in the past with other products.

Overall:
Overall I am VERY satisfied will the product. 100% usable right out of the box. The only thing that was a littl annoying was tha it doesn't come the power chord--it must be baught separately. You can, hough, put batteries in it. Perfect for what I do (studio work, live sets, jamming at home).

Feature:
Easily controlable for what you get, just not enough features compared to the other multi-effects offered by other companies.

Quality:
Made of rock. No problem here.

Value:
Expensive for what you get considering it can only be used with a live rig, because it will not interface for direct recording. Also don't forget that you have to buy an additional foot switch and (are you kidding!) the AC adapter!!!!

Desirability:
No way. The Korg Toneworks and the Line 6 Pods are far surperior. It is better than the Digitechs however. I do like the blue color though, nice touch.

Sound:
Tinny and some what toneless for bottom end. Mostly high pitched sounds and also an annoying lag.

Ease of Use:
Very easy as long as you pop for the additional footswich to bank up and down and the AC adapter as well. More on this later. The knobs and buttons are very logical.

Overall:
I rate it this low overall because of the one dimesional use and the obvious price gouging by Roland/Boss to not include the AC adapter and footswitches. The bloody thing can't be used properly with out these functions. C'mon guys, guitarist didn't fall off turnip trucks. These are major issues.

Feature:
Pretty easy to set up

Quality:
Even though it is in a metal case, there is a design flaw that makes it susceptible to breakage: The inputs and outputs are on the "front" of the unit, facing away from the player. If these could be put on the side, then 300 pound oafs falling on it will nto break it as easily.

Value:
For about 300, you get about 900 worth of effects

Desirability:
It looks swell

Sound:
I had accidentally wrote all my review for the "pedal" for this unit. This thing sounds great.

Ease of Use:
Pretty easy to get what you want out of it

Support:
Great support: After the 300 pound oaf fell on it: I brought it to the local shop that covers the warranty. Parts and labour were covered (parts for about a year, labout for 3 months)

Overall:
I'll be using this a long time, until it breaks, hopefully I will be able to get a replacement before the line is ended. I bought a line 6 and the line ended... I cannot get a replacement Floorboard.
