Feature:
4 X 10's and a tweeter in a deep, ported cabinet. The cabinet is actually pretty decent. What kills this cab are the cheap aluminum cones... I know guys that paired this cab with a Behringer bass amp, and managed to blow at least one of these cones within the first 3 months of ownership. It may be coincidence, but for two people that I know to have the same kind of thing happen in the same period of time... ...seems a little fishy to me... I also know three people that got the paper cone version of this cab and they love it! The paper cones hold up much better than the aluminum ones in the Behringer cabs.
Quality:
This cab sounds really good when you buy it and get it home. If you use this in a live gigging situation, it does have really good output! This thing is LOUD!! However, none of this matters if the aluminum cones blow from regular use! I understand buying this cab for the price. However, for around the same price, you can buy the paper cone version of this cab, or even the Hartke Transporter 410, and you'll have a good cab with woofers that will last.
Value:
The price is great, but what kind of quality do you get with these things?
Desirability:
Not the aluminum cones... I'll save for something Hartke for aluminum. The paper cones I might consider.
Sound:
Decent sound production. Not as good as Hartke.
Ease of Use:
Not much to it -- plug in and play!
Support:
The two guys that I know that blew these cones had to jump through hoops to get replacements. They told me they had a bad experience.
Overall:
I have played through one of my friends cab like this before it blew, and it did sound really good! The cab is deep, and its tuned well, so all that's left to do is have the woofers move air... Unless the woofers blow from regular usage. Let me define what I mean with regular usage: I don't remember the amp that it was hooked up to, except that it was Behringer. Everything was hooked up correctly, the gain wasn't spiking/clipping the amp, the EQ was set near flat (just a little midrange scooped out, no additional boost), and the volume never went above half way up. Is it possible that there was simply a bad batch of speakers? Yes, or course; those things happen from time to time. However, after the new woofers blowing under normal operating conditions (I would dare say gentle operating conditions), and after the nightmare of repair, I would probably save my money if I were you. If you have to have the aluminum cones, the Transporter line from Hartke is a good alternative to this cab. They don't have the power handling that this cab is rated at, but you will get solid, consistant, loud performance at a really good price. For a better quality, save up for the XL series. If you can't resist the temptation of high power rating and low price, do yourself a favor and get the paper cone version of this cab. You'll be happier.
