It is not necessary to spend $1000 for an Ovation elite because I have played several of them and this guitar while not having the same exact woods is a bargain for the price. The electronics are DJ-2B and any tweaking if not satified with the sounds can be tweaked thru your amp or effects pedals.
Sound
The sound is superb. This guitar is as good as an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which costs $600. however it is a real bargain for under $300.
Features
The sound is good however I wish there were better electronics. for the price though its hard to beat.
Ease of Use
For an instrument of this price it is very palyable. just change the strings at once to appreciate the wonderful sound.
Quality
Quality is very good and should be road worthy. I have not taken it on the road yet but I beleive i will.
Value
This guitar is worth much more than the selling price.

The Wow Factor
The look is of course An Ovation. Multi-sound holes and roundback make it a pure pleasure to look at.

"Best Guitar for under $300!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This might well be the only steel string guitar I'll ever end up playing. I just cant go back to my Yamaha or Epiphone after this...
Sound
The design and placement of the leaf epaulets create a very crisp, but not tinny tone with incredible response: notes resound the instant you pluck a string. I recommend elixir strings. Their polyweb custom light strings sound absolutely beautiful. Very good for fingerstyle, too. While the low end tone isn't that of a dreadnought size guitar, it gets a full, balanced sound not lacking any qualities of a generic acoustic guitar. It doesn't have the tone of a wooden body guitar but one unto it's own kind.
Features
The 9-volt active EQ is simple, but versatile enough to get the sound you're looking for. This guitar sounds great plugged in. I also wanted to mention that this guitar sounds very nice unplugged. Nobody really came out and said that in other reviews. The location of the jack is conveniently, and the inside of the guitar is accessible via round plug in the back of the body. Also, the tuners on this guitar are very smooth, with a responsive high gear ratio. The don't slip or rattle, and I expect the guitar will stay in tune well, Ive only had it for a little while.
Ease of Use
This guitar's body has been ergonomically designed for comfort and playability by Igor Sikorsky and Charlie Kaman, Helicopter Geniuses from CT. The neck is very fast and smooth, and it simply has the most player- friendly fretboard Ive ever used. Since the body of the guitar is thin, your right arm doesn't have to reach around 5" of wood to get to the fretboard. It comes with 2 strap buttons installed, and a strap is nice, though not necessary to use, because the guitar can sometimes slip off the leg cradling it because of its smooth, angled composite body.
Quality
I haven't had this beauty for very long, but I own other acoustic guitars and I cant tell when they're made shoddily, and this one certainly isn't. This guitar is very light weight, but is also very sturdy.
Value
Great value!! Since the quality composite body isnt very expensive, more of your dollar goes into important components like the mahogony neck, rosewood fretboard, and sealed tuners (which are all awesome), and the active EQ is also great.

The Wow Factor
This guitar is pleasing to the eye. I got the ruby red burst. Very happy with the appearance of the instrument.

"The Empress of Instruments musical."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Perhaps I will never have any other musical instrument. I have had the Oscar Schmidt Autoharp and Yamaha Keyboard which were stolen ten years or so ago but now I am older and semi disabled and I have my Dad's Harmonicas in C and G. I would like to experiment with Nicoli Tessla's Harmonium as I admire the man very much for his inventions, but have no burning desire for it. It seems the Harmonium might be harmonius with the sounds of the Ovation Applause. If lost or stolen I could not rest until I had it replaced as I have yearned for it since I first heard it.
Sound
It was the sound that I fell in love with. It is the voices of nature produced by the art of man. Enchantment so great I was uplifted to a new level. I haven't had a chance to explore its possiblities, but I am looking forward to doing so. I have hinted and outright demanded that it is what I want for my Birthday(August 24). I feel it can be tuned and adjusted to many styles of playing and I'm only sorry that Jimi Hendrikx is not alive to use it.
Features
The style I liked best has a dip on the left side for ease of positioning the left wrist. Of course this is for right handed players so my brother and youngest son would have to adapt just a bit. An intersting use of modern materials may actually improve the life of this beauty.
Ease of Use
At first I thought it would be difficult to use due to the rounded bottom, but I'd determined to play it until I adjust to it more than try to adust it to me. This is only reasonable to dedicated musicians as every instrument has its own soul, unlike most inanimate objects, such as cooking pots or vacuum cleaners. It is easy to play as the manual is very clear and just as playable as other guitars.
Quality
It sems perfect to me and will last as long as I take proper care of it. I would like a backup so that my brother could play along with me. He's all of our family of origin left. Except for replacing an occasional string I plan on using it everywhere and passing it on to my most talented child or grandchild.

The Wow Factor
This marvel and I 'bonded' the very first time I heard it and I felt I must have one. Yes, the texs are great and I like the design with the inside construction being condusive to better sound and is the work of sheer genius. I just play for myself and folks in nursing home or service men back from duty in the hsopital. I'm not in it for fame or fortune. Who cares about the color. My blind brother can not see it and so color has nothing to do with its appeal.

"Love my Ovation Applause AE148 !!!!!!!!!!!!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I believe this guitar will satisfy all my needs for at least 5 years. If I decide to supplement it, I'll probably go for an solid hardwood body electric (such as the Gander Aries, which represents a _major_ step-up in price).
Sound
The strings my AE148 came with over-tensioned its neck when the guitar was brought up to standard tuning, so I immediately re-strung it with Martin's FX custom Phosphor & Silk strings. Once that was done, its sound was incredibly beautiful and bright (almost bell-like). It was a very moderately priced guitar, so you can probably get a slightly marginally better sound if you are willing to ante for something super-expensive, but I personally love it. It has the voice of an acoustic, but frets like an electric - what's not to love.
Features
I felt that the guitar was exceptionally well-made for its price (with online discount). It is a super shallow body round back, which gives less acoustic volume than the deeper Ovations, but can be easily held by someone who is less than 5 feet tall. It's neck is also very narrow (like you normally see on an electric), which is particularly good for those of us with extra small hands (slightly less than 6 inches from tip of middle finger to base of palm). It didn't come with any accessories, and since it's easier to play with a strap I was glad that I already had a beautiful Italia 2.5 inch leather & suede to fit it. The AE148 is the perfect guitar for a small woman, but it's also a very fine guitar for everyone, although people with exceptionally large hands might consider the neck narrow.
Ease of Use
There was no manual, so fortunately everything was intuitive. It is very playable.
Quality
This guitar is new, and I am not a professional, so it won't ever need to tolerate serious use "on the road". However, it seems reasonably durable and would not be prohibitively expensive to replace if something terrible did ever happen to it.
Value
YES!!!!! This guitar gives wonderful value for its price.

I have not had any direct dealings with Ovation
The Wow Factor
The leaf inlay pattern is beautiful. The small offset sound holes not only work well and allow you to fret higher on the neck, but they also give it a certain grace and beauty. I got the ruby starburst, which is a beautiful read and much more beautiful than it appeared on my computer monitor.
