Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Combo Amplifier (220 Watts, 1x15 in.)

The B-200R builds on the technology used in Ampeg's popular B-100R, offering 220 watts RMS and a custom-designed 15 in. Eminence driver. The retro "blue check" covering and companion silver and blue grill-cloth generate a cool '70s vibe; the B-200R is "old school" on steroids. Coming in at just under 70 lbs., the B-200R can rock an average- to medium-sized venue, and rock it hard!

Ampeg B200R Rocket Amp Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

It sounds great. Still too early to make a real prediction. If lost or stolen TODAY I would replace with same. Good looks, great sound and a great price.
Sound
I've owned a Peavy Combo 300 for two years. The rich clear warm sound of this tubed Preamp is superb in the B200R. I play 50 & 60's rock & roll, blues and pop music. I also play some folk and basic blue grass through a Hoffner wannabe. In a pinch in will work as an acoustic guitar amp too.
Features
For what I play this is the best. Tubed Preamp. Basic EQ with enhanced Ultra high, mid & low. XLR line out. Headphones out with level adjustment. You can select bass with or without tweeter. Classic amp look.
Ease of Use
Still figuring it out; so far easy as eating pie. Actually far easier to use than my Peavy which utilizes 8 band equalization. My needs are pretty basic and I run a DigiTech BP80 through for some distortion and also heavy reverb. Pipeline sounds awesome.
Quality
I've had less than a week. Looks perfect. I cut down the power chord strap because it otherwise makes it difficult to get the power chord unraveled. It looks and feels solid, but too early make prediction on reliability. Ampeg does have a good rep, but this one is made in China and only time will tell. But for the price Zzounds sells it for at $350 it's like stealing. You can attach caster rollers that it comes with, but those things would make the amp rattle (on any amp)so I've used a collapsible folding cart with larger softer wheels.
Value
Definitely worth the price.
Manufacturer Support
I chose Ampeg because other friends that play bass like Ampeg. I've had no reason to contact them.
The Wow Factor
I like the classic look which is a bonus. It is simply a great sounding amp.

"220w of Ampeg tone with a tube preamp, best in class"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

i have played comparable units from swr, fender, the ba115hpt from ampeg, line 6, and plenty of others. this thing is the best by far. the only gripe i have is made in china, but when i turn it on and crank it up i pretty much forget about that.
Sound
sound is great, dialing in your sound is super easy no silly eq sliders or garbage like that. plenty loud, probably going to make your guitarist angry.
Features
very cool, no complaints. just the right amount of features, not a bunch of frills and gimmicks.
Ease of Use
plug and play
Quality
this is the only gripe i have about this amp. made in china. sure i haven't had any quality issues, but for $650 i want american. i have looked this amp over thoroughly, and it looks solid.
Value
tube preamp and 220W of ampeg tone. not bad. value should be slightly lower due to being made in china by 11 year old slave laborers
Manufacturer Support
haven't had to use it, don't anticipate any problems, but ampeg and zzounds have great reputations for customer support.
The Wow Factor
cool looking, great sounding. couldn't ask for more. except "i want it" to be made in the u.s.a

"Great Bass Amp. Perfect tone."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
Very versatile amp with a great vintage low end tone.It also has a great punchy sound thanks to the built in horn. After i got it home and really started playing it I realized how great it sounded. I now have sold my SVT 2pro and use only this.
Features
They thought of everything but a speaker out jack.
Quality
Was rattling a little but after I tightened up the screws on the side it's hardly noticeable.
Value
Best money I ever spent on a Amplifier.
Manufacturer Support
No calls yet.
The Wow Factor
It really is a cool looking amp.

"NOT THE AMP I HOPED IT WOULD BE."

GREAT SOUND UNDER LOWER VOLUME BUT IT CRAPS OUT WHEN TURNED UP. THIS IS THE SECOND ONE I'M RETURNING.VERY POOR QUALITY CONTROL FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I FEEL VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Sound
I PLAY A 5 STRING MUSICMAN STINGRAY ON AND IT SOUNDS AMAZING, BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED WHEN I STARTED TURNING IT UP LOUDER. THERE WAS A CONSTANT HUM A RATTLES.
Features
NOT TOO MANY ACCESSORIES WHICH IS THE WAY I LIKE IT.
Ease of Use
VERY EASY TO USE
Quality
THE QUALITY WAS GREAT ON THE OUTSIDE BUT THATS NOT WHAT COUNTS.
Value
DID NOT KEEP THE AMP.
Manufacturer Support
SUPPORT AND WARRANTY IS ONE OF THE BEST.
The Wow Factor
LOOKS GREAT

Ampeg B200R Rocket Amp Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Sound
Sick - you can twist the EQ and get virtually any vintage to modern tone you want. The 12AU7 preamp tube adds warmth and depth. EXCELLENT Vaule!
