"AKG, a name you can count on for quality."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I expect to keep this mic in the studio for many years, not necessarily for voice-over work, unless I install a pop and blast filter.
Sound
As a broadcaster, I have become comfortable using dynamic mics, geenearrly SM5B's, RE20's, and SM7's. I woulod compare the Perception 200 to any of the expensive mics used in the industry. This is an extrememy sensitive mic, so if you are used to "eating" a dynamic, this will take some getting used to.
Features
The 10 db attenuation is a nice feature, as is the roll off, if needed.
Ease of Use
Can't get any easier, plug it in and you're ready to go!
Quality
I expected quality with AKG, and as expected, they delivered. The mic has a nice solid feel, well made.
Value
I was very impressed with the audio quality. This mic has a frequency response as good, or better than mics costing 3 times the cost.
Manufacturer Support
I don't expect that support will ever be needed.
The Wow Factor
I like the light silver-blue coating.

"Go get one!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Overall, I can't fault this mic, even if I had paid a lot more for it. For live broadcast work, vocal and instrument recording, and live stage work it is a true gem
Sound
Warm, warm, warm. Oh, did I say warm? For broadcasting work this is a fantastic sounding mic for a small studio.
Features
Hard case, cracking shock mount, attenuation and lo cut switches. And a great sound. You can get a lot less for a lot more...
Ease of Use
Plug and play (assuming you have phantom)
Quality
Very well made and solid - typical AKG
Value
Never owned a mic that is such good value for money
The Wow Factor
Irresistable

"Hearing It, You'd Never Guess the Price."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
It was recommended to me and I strongly recommend it to others. It is especially gratifying to the budget conscious project musician. This is just one of the several mics one needs, but it is a totally solid deal and extraordinary value from AKG.
Sound
Clarity and Sensitivity are its hallmarks. It is very precise with an open presence at the top. I use it for vocals only, which are true and crisp. It benefits greatly from a tube mic pre, be that an Avalon or a PreSonus BlueTube. A range of profiles are available using a tube pre.
Features
The roll off works great for proximity issues and the pad is solid, though I don't have high spl situations to cope with on this mic. The shockmount is sturdy and totally effective in isolating vibration. The carry case is pure AKG pro.
Ease of Use
Plug and Play. The only learning curve is the settings that you prefer on your preamp.
Quality
Well-made and looking all business. Switches are durable and smooth. This must be a market-maker loss leader for AKG. It is a $500 microphone by all standards of comparison. If you need a tube condenser mic, buy one. If you have a tube mic pre, this will handle everything you demand of it, short of a tube condenser.
Value
You need be carefull not to buy a $599 mic when you can get this one for around $160 and it has better sound. In fact, you could get four of them!
Manufacturer Support
The best suport is the support you don't need, eh?
The Wow Factor
At this price point, this mic is unmatched. It's not a cheap micophone. It's a good microphone for preposterously little money.

"AWESOME"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Its brought a whole new sound to my small studio, and i dont expect to upgrade until i can afford something MUCH more expensive, however im giving it a 9 since its the next best thing from perfect
Sound
For the price, i couldn't imagine a better deal
Features
lacks of the pattern switch that comes on the 400, but the bass rolloff is good, and the -10 switch is a must, since its SUPER sensitive. i love the carrying case it comes with it, and the shockmount is solid. keep it in mint condition when not in use, and it neve fails
Ease of Use
only problems i had at first were mostly with placement, gain, etc, but those problem r solved quick, and once i started getting the firt tracks in i was amazed
Quality
for the price this mic is just incredible, blows the mxls out of the water, and gives such warmth to acoustic guitars and vocals
Value
You just can't beat it
Manufacturer Support
havent had any problems, and dont expect any, however i trust akg is a respectable company and will help its customers
The Wow Factor
its a really cool looking mic, and the schockmount is a definite plus

"Rocks my socks"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Well, for the bucks, I don't think there's a lot better than this. Except if you want to pay three times the price of this one. You're better with the 200 than the 100 just for the bass roll off, pretty useful on male vox.
Sound
Great sound, it picks up EVERY sound in and out the room. Even traffic sounds :P
Features
Great accessories: Tank Case Giga-Cool Spider shock mount
Ease of Use
Well, as long as you have phantom power, you're ready.
Quality
Looks rugged and weights a ton (or even more!) Built to last I'd say.
Value
Cheap & Good
Manufacturer Support
You won't need it.
The Wow Factor
Ooh Sexey beast.

"It's a REAL AKG, Nevermind the Price."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

At this budget level, it is a marvel. I have the RODE NT1-A, as well, for home recording, and will soon add an AKG small condenser cardioid and, likeky a 414. Best is its flexibility of contour with a good Mic Pre up front, however, it pattern is fairly broad and not very sensitive to proximity differentiations, hard to get "intimate" with. However, a dampened room solves all that, pretty well. Takes a bit of boost from the Pre to make it jump, however.
Sound
Two Qualifiers: It's Great once you get to Know it. It is a Large Diaphram, so the Highs are soft, by definition. That's what you need to know. Performance depends on placement, capture settings, and as with all Large Diaphram Condensers, a Mic Pre (minimum: the Pre Sonus BlueTube, or higher) if you want to contour the sound quality. Two: It's performance is worth five times the price. Clearly, they are giving these away to get you to know the AKG line (Well worth knowing, in my opinion, per the 414, etc.).
Features
Featured well beyond the limits of this price range. Pad and Roll Off are effective without sacraiicing clarity.
Quality
It is a true AKG, in spite of the Price!
Value
While a different Timbre, the RODE NT1-A is the only thing that comes close. The AKG fits my vocal color better than the RODE, but that is purely a personal situation/quality.

AKG Perception 200 Mic Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
When and if you do purchase this mic, open it up, hold it in your palm, and feel this sucker, it glows in performance wise. Lots of headroom, doesn't have to warm up as long as my MXL990
Sound
I had the MXL990 mic, and upgraded to this beast. Works great. Sounds great
Features
roll off switch offers more diversity
Ease of Use
if you don't know how to use a mic, you shouldn't be in this business.
Quality
great. well put together, sturdy.
Value
for the money, you'll get top notch sound without breaking your pocket book. It took me a lot closer to the sound I've been searching for
Manufacturer Support
I would think AKG's customer support is outstanding.

"It delivers a Clean, larger than life representation of what I am recording"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I like it for what it is I see some microphones for five or ten thousand dollars which may sound much better, but I get a good sound out of this microphone. In other words it makes my vocals and guitar sound good, warm, no distortion, no excessive coloration, basic features(easy attenuation and bass roll off),
Sound
This mic delivers sound quality comparable to mics costing a lot more. It is a great all around mic. Warm and transparent, clean not edgy, solid and well made.
Features
it has bass and attenuation trroll offs. No multi pattern but I can work around that.
Ease of Use
Plug it in. If you are not used to condensers it is going to take some experimentation. if you are an experienced engineer it is pretty cut and dry.
Quality
Solid construction, Screen is well plated and body has nice tinted finish the shock mount is ok too. I have had one for about a year and a half and I like it almost as much as the AKG 3000B it is a good looking microphone
Value
A AKG for under 200 dollars
Manufacturer Support
I have AKGs from the late 50s which have yet to need support
The Wow Factor
I would not throw it out of the studio )ut it is strictly for recording audio)

"Steal This Mic"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
No compalaints, all praise.
Sound
I am really fussy about voice. Comapred to Electrovoice PE27, this one sounds a lot more mellow while still being natural. Equally responsive to mics costiong a lot more.
Features
Roll of and padding are a nice plus. I upgraded from Perception 100 for these features.
Ease of Use
Plug it in to your preamp. How difficult could that be?
Quality
As well amde as anyrthing out there. Looks durable enough to stand up to travel better than me.
Value
At this price, you thnk you'r stealing it.
Manufacturer Support
So far, not needed.
The Wow Factor
Love the color and the spider shock mount looks avant retro. . . if there is such a thing.
