Epiphone Limited Edition Lee Malia Les Paul Custom Artisan Electric Guitar
Every time I whip up a product pick for our monthly selections, you may have noticed I say that "I'm a sucker for _____." This month, I'm sucker for walnut finishes, especially on SGs and Les Pauls. You may see that this one shares some of the design choices of an LP Artisan from back in the day. I can dig it. Pretty solid-feeling tulip Epi-branded tuners, and rad-looking, old-school inlays on the board. I got a chance to noodle about on this one over at NAMM and I'm glad we finally have this in for pre-ordering on our page now cause I totally want one after you fine folks get yours. Players that dig1 on the classic and traditional Les Paul necks will love this guy -- it's got a comfortable taper, without going in to baseball bat thickness like you'd find on a '50s style LP. I know a lot of folks are fond of changing out pickups on Epis to suit their needs and I'll have you know that this one comes with a pretty rad humbucker/P-90 configuration out of the box. These are both Gibby pickups, and a pretty unique stock configuration as well. The 84 in the bridge is an overwound Alnico V humbucker and for comparison's sake, sounds like a pretty modern pickup voice designed to work best with the gritty, yet mellow P-94 in the neck. The 'bucker is coil-tappable too. What more do you want? I have no idea who Mr. Malia is, but I've gotta say he made some pretty solid choices with the Epi custom shop folks on the electronics and this slick-looking walnut body. We're doing pre-orders, so you've gotta try this sleeper LP before this Limited Edition model is gone.

Reverend Descent H90 Baritone Electric Guitar
Mmmm...bari. Surf-green bari! Here's another killer 6-string from those rockers out in Detroit. Like my nod to the LP, this one just showed up at zZ and I see big things for Reverend's baritones. Had I not mentioned it, you might have not seen that this is a pretty unique baritone scale: 26 3/4". I'm a huge fan of the 30" scale Bass VI and those extra-long scale 4-string basses, and this one will definitely have a home in my collection. Not straying from the time-tested Reverend formula, this Descent H90 Baritone has a slick-playing 12" neck radius paired up with an interesting custom baritone string set, so the Strat and Paul fans can dig in to this neck without ripping their callouses off. You've also got a Wilkinson-style trem like you'd find on some other models in their catalog, which is a must for me. I gave it a beating and it held tuning like a champ. It's kind of like a super-comfy, best-of-both-worlds feel. I have no qualms about this design and I'm a real nit-picker when it comes to that. Perhaps you've heard some buzz about the Railhammer pickups that come in this guitar. Pretty rad designs that combine rails and poles together for a focused, pretty modern response that doesn't get muddled up in the mix, but I digress -- this is a great pairing for a rocker guitar, not your Ennio Morricone tribute band. This bari comes with Railhammer's aggressive, but not harsh Gnarly 90 in the bridge and a pretty solid Tel 90 in the neck. The Tel 90 is a great choice for the neck, as it's a pickup that cuts the woof from heavy strums but still gives some solid, surfy clank.

T-Rex Diva Drive Overdrive Pedal with Blend
The Diva Drive is a great overdrive with a very useful extra feature: its Mix knob. This knob allows you to blend in your dry guitar signal with the overdrive tone for more interesting and detailed tonal results. Aside from this practical feature, it also has a Voicing selector switch on the side of the pedal that essentially chooses which low frequency range is accentuated as the Gain knob is turned up. I loved the Diva Drive for its ability to still sound full with single-coils, and defined with humbuckers. Check this pedal out if you want a more flexible overdrive that can be more specifically dialed-in to your guitar rig.

Mojo Hand FX Iron Bell Fuzz Pedal
As a big Gilmour fan, I was naturally very curious about this pedal. After playing it for some time, I noticed it had the fuzz-like sounds of an old Ram's Head era Big Muff, albeit with a different flavor. There was not quite as much low end as a Muff would deliver, and on top of that, the Iron Bell was noticeably brighter in its treble frequencies. I found this gave it enhanced clarity and less muddiness. As an added bonus, there was plenty of gain on tap if you want more over-the-top fuzz sounds and sustain galore. While this obviously won't make your guitar sing just like Gilmour's, it's a great fuzz that's clear and defined, but when pushed can snarl with the best of 'em.

Eden Californiwah Bass Filter Pedal
I own a few Eden amps and cabinets, but have never tried a pedal of theirs (outside a DI pedal). Ever since the announcement of their new Califoniwah Bass Filter Pedal, I have been anxiously awaiting my chance to try it out. I was not disappointed! I really love the subtleties of the Californiwah. It is not overbearing like so many bass filters out there. It's also incredibly simple to use. Within a couple of minutes I was able to get a full-on wah sound, then tweak it just a bit and get a really subtle low-end bump. If you're looking for a simple filter pedal that will retain the integrity of your bass tone, check out the Eden Califoniwah.

Ibanez SRF705 Portamento Fretless Electric Bass, 5-String
I have heard so much about Ibanez's Portamento fretless bass from customers, online reviews, and forums. From the get go, this was one of the most comfortable 5-string basses I have played. The Bartolini pickups mix perfectly with the Aerosilk piezo system. The Piezo pickup gave a great natural upright bass sound, while the Bartolinis focused the tone, giving it definition. I felt like the Ibanez SRF705 had the perfect mix of clarity, and timbral expression that bass players yearn for from a fretless bass. I highly recommend the Portamento for anyone looking to expand their playing into the fretless world.

DigiTech Trio Band Creator Pedal
With this new pedal the worries of having to find a rhythm section are long gone. This pedal has all you need to jam, and with a variety of genres and styles you can find just about anything you're looking for. Once you lay down your track, the pedal will do the rest and create a rhythm section to help alongside you. Within each genre is the ability to change the tempo and timing and even "style" which will alter the original beat into other options so you will always find something new to jam along to. Want to just jam to drums? You can remove the bass from the track and just keep the drums. With individual volume options on both, you can create the perfect mix for that backing track. What surprised me about this pedal was the built-in effect that varies depending on the genre you are using. There really is nothing else that you would need to get to playing. For those looking to get the creative juices flowing, the Trio will be one pedal you can't be without!

Fender Sergio Vallin Stratocaster Electric Guitar, Rosewood Fingerboard
This new guitar, designed in collaboration with Sergio Vallin of the Mexican Rock band Mana, brings something fresh to the Fender lineup. Instead of the usual volume and tone controls, you get a simple user-friendly design with a 5-way rotary selector that cycles through five pickup arrays. Another interesting feature is the push-pull knob, which bypasses all of the pickup switches and the volume control and gives you a direct out, which can be used for times when you need that extra push and are getting ready to do your solo. With just the right amount of extra features to stand out from your other guitars, the Sergio Vallin Stratocaster is one you must get your hands on to experience all it has to offer.
